deluca67 Posted June 30, 2008 Report Posted June 30, 2008 Would you care to guess where Buffalo ends up in hits as a team last year? If you consider hits to be the true indicator of toughness, you may be surprised. Would that rating include Bernier and the two players that totaled 15 minutes a game? The Sabres got run over on most nights and their goalie had a bullseye as a crest. But if you need to pretend that the Sabres are tough enough and that Brian Rolston can somehow make a difference than good for you. This team needs a forward that can play the game and be a physical presence. Not an over the hill ex-Devil living off glory days gone by.

deluca67 Posted June 30, 2008 Report Posted June 30, 2008 So I assume you mean that we would have to include Pominville or Roy? If so (and you might be right if that's what you mean), there is no way Darcy is trading either of those 2, so no Bouwmeester. Mostly Pominville. After Pominville you my be looking at a Stafford or Gaustad. Max is not a major chip in any deal that is to be made. If Max gets moved it's to even out the salary cap.

I agree he wouldn't do much for us....the point of the post was to update that one of the talked about possible additions is gone.

He's put up 3 straight 30+ goal seasons on a team that on most nights looks content to win 1-0. Granted, he had been playing with Gaborik, so that's gonna help anybody's stats. If the Sabres are indeed going to spend big on somebody, it better be a big, tough, angry SOB that can also pitch in offensively, whether he's a d-man or a forward. I'm sick of of hearing how the Sabres are "team-tough". That only gets you so far, especially if it's a lie. Anyone who watched the playoffs this year should know that our team--specifically our defense--would have been run through the walls en route to a likely 1st-round exit.
deluca67 Posted June 30, 2008 Report Posted June 30, 2008 Bring Peca back and give him the C. I'm with you if you are 'Doc Brown' and driving a 'DeLorean'.

Cuts through the BS and hit's to the heart of the Sabres problems.

While I don't think we could get him for just Max, I do think Max, Stafford and a #1 pick or another prospect is a pretty good package that might get it done.

IKnowPhysics Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 And why would they covet Enroth when everyone knows they'd love Miller. Easy answer. Detroit is collecting the Swedish National Team for their roster (Franzen, Samuelsson, Zetterberg, Kronwall, Lidstrom, and formerly Holmstrom, and perhaps in the future Lilja, Ritola, and Ericsson; see also: Detroit interest in Sundin), and Enroth will backstop them to the medal in the future (after Lundqvist). That and Detroit, before they signed Ty Conklin yesterday, was in need for a solid young backup with good potential to develop under Osgood's remaining year(s). But maybe you're right, the Michigan State nation would probably love it.

james duncan Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 hmm Made me laugh out loud--saw this coming as the thread went on. I don't see the Sabres trading any player they have a long term contract with. They love the security afforded by these deals. Add Gaustad to that list now. Stafford is someone I really think they'd move for a player they like. Max is a given. Moving Pommer is a distinct possibility especially if they forsee contract issues on the horizon. Connolly has no trade value I'd guess. After that, I think it'd take an awful lot to get them to part with any of their top prospects or upcoming draft picks. They're cheap and it's been how the organization has survived. It doesn't exactly give them a lot of chips to play.

carpandean Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 Do ALL Swedish players sign cheap deals? Just in Detroit. At this point, it's akin to taking a home town discount.

I doubt that, the already have a young goalie who is supposed to come up and be the future goalie soon James Howard (from Syracuse) - http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app?page=PlayerDeta...mp;service=page
