Eck Special Sabre Rumors!

The Sabres are talking trade with Florida. It is now no secret that the Sabres were in on Jokinen. The talks now are for boumeester and I have heard the deal could be for max and drew plus a pick for jay and a backup goalie.

The red wings have big interest in Swedish goalie Enroth from buffalo who is wowing the sabres fans in camp. It is widely speculated that the wings covet Ryan miller as well. (Really???)

The Sabres may also be in the Marleau sweeps if Rolston re-signs in Minnesota.

I am hoping to do a rumourcast podcast this evening...tbd!

Sources close to the Sabres believe that all trades are likely to fall into place after key UFAs are signed.

What if!

This is already posted in another thread, but yes, I would do that trade.

I'd sign Marleau before taking Rolston as well. I think Patrick just needs a change of scenery.

I would give up Max and a draft pick for Boumeester, but I think Stafford is going to be very good and I wouldn't send him in that trade. I think that Marleau would be a great addition for the Sabres, but as usual, I'm skeptical about these "rumours" that Ek puts up, because they so often tend to just stir up the elixir of hope only to have it turn into nothing. Here's to hoping that we do end up with some big moves though.

I continue to be surprised with this fascination with Marleau. The guy is Pierre Turgeon all over again. He puts up decent numbers in the regular season and takes vacation in the playoffs. And since the lockout he has had two seasons of double digit negatives with regard to plus/minus. On top of that, he was awful this year.

I posted this in the other thread, but when I see something like the "Wings covet Enroth" stuff it really makes me wonder who the hell he hears it from. Detroit still has:

--Osgood at the pro level;

--Jimmy Howard as a backup and possible future starter (the top prospect in their system according to HockeysFuture.com)

--and coming into the AHL they have a guy in a nearly identical situation as Enroth - Daniel Larsson, who beat out Enroth for the Rookie of the Year honors over in SEL and won the Honken Trophy (SEL's Vezina for Swedish goalies) and just signed and came over to the U.S. to challenge for the starter's position at their AHL affiliate.

They also drafted Thomas McCollum in the first round.

And why would they covet Enroth when everyone knows they'd love Miller.

Good point. Truth be told, the Miller rumors make more sense because Osgood is 35 and Howard, while still their top prospect, hasn't quite developed as completely as they'd hoped to this point. I just don't see the Enroth deal at all, though.

besides - where are they going to find room for all these goalies? Maybe Detroit is trying a new system that involves two goalies on the ice at the same time...

Pssst ... this is one of those times where +/- is "misleading" ... it was only "an important indicator of defensive abilities" for B-rod ... do try to keep up.

You would. I would. Any opposing GM who wants to keep his job wouldn't. Gotta give to get.

Marleau doesn't do much for me.

Boumeester for Max, Drew and a pick? I'd do that in a second.

It would be one more step in the plan to collect the tallest D-men and shortest forwards.

Except for him actually showing a little bit in this year's playoffs (which could be due to finally maturing or more likely has something to do with a theory about blind squirrels and nuts), I agree 100% with this post.

Boumeester would look good with a snot smear across his chest, Marleau not so much.

This team needs a real leader. No more of this rotating the C. We need someone who is going to be our Captain from day one....Done Deal.

If its Jay, or Rolston, or whoever... this team needs a shot of something!

How much would Rolston even want?

I think Rolston is to Pricy, and at 34 years old he's a little long in the tooth. His best days are behind him.

I'd rather gamble on the 29 year old Marleau who up until last year had back to back 30+ goal seasons.

I don't believe Drury was lighting it up when we traded for him. He clearly need a change, and I think the same can be true with Patrick.

I think that before Bouwmeester comes to play for us, we should learn how to spell his name.

Cmon, people still don't know how to spell Paetsch and he DOES play for us.

Idk, i love Rolston. Vets win cups. Just look at Carolina and such. He's worth the money if it's a short-term deal.

As for Marleau, no way we get him. He's pricy. According to reports, San Jose and Columbus talked a trade, and SJ rejected a package of Zherdev and their first round pick, which i think was like 8th. Can we beat that? I doubt it... i mean i'd love him here and in our system i think he would be great but i just don't see what we could package.

This could all be a smoke screen. He did say that no trade will be done until after UFA. I expect them to be involved in FA early going after their targets. Assets I think can be traded are 2-3 forwards if one comes back or added in FA and 1-2 defensemen if 1-2 comes back or added in FA. I won't go into names because we've all done that before but you have to give up something to get something good in return. I only think there are a handful of people the Sabres would not deal if the right opportunity presented itself.

Just say no to Marleau!

The guy had two decent years coming out of the lockout like a lot of players have. He's a 50-60 point a year player, weak in the defensive zone and grossly overpriced.

Bouwmeester would be a great pickup. Again it's going to cost a lot more than Stafford and Max. Stafford is a decent prospect and Max has little to no value. If the Sabres want a player like Bouwmeester their offer has to be far more significant than a prospect and their trash. I don't mean throwing in Kotalik or Connolly either.

Rolston is not the Sabres answer. I would think that everyone would agree that the Sabres Primary need is to get tougher and more physical. Rolston wouldn't fill that need. He has 137 hits over the past three seasons. His PK time has dropped over the past couple of seasons which makes me wonder if he is losing a step.
