slapshot1619 Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 as per Tsn.ca Malone and the rights to Roberts for a 4th next year/3rd if Malone signs
wjag Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 as per Tsn.ca Malone and the rights to Roberts for a 4th next year/3rd if Malone signs The style of Tampa will change with Melrose there. I kinda liked the run-and-gun Buf-Tam games...
awill29 Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 I don't know about this one. It seems like the Pens could've gotten more than a 4th/3rd for two of their top wingers, but then again, salary cap issues are looming down the road for the Lightning. Granted, they haven't given up much to negotiate, but with Vinny and Boyle's contract, and Stamkos probably demanding big bucks 3-4 years from now...I dunno how well they can fit Malone in.
Bmwolf21 Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 It will be interesting to see if Malone goes through with his promise to wait till July 1 and see what the market will bear for him, and how that affects future trades for exclusive negotiating rights. Tampa must be either pretty confident they can get one or both signed over the next three days, or they feel that the draft picks involved don't amount to much in the way of risk.
SabresOnTheWarpath Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 yea, i thought they gave up a lot for negotiating rights for 3 days. Seems silly at this point.
2ForTripping Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 Speaking of guys on the move our bestest buddy Dicklund has quite a bit of movement on the horizon remember these are his latest Max/ Stafford/pick for Boumeester and a back up net minder Also he claims if Rolston re ups with the Wild we are going to try and land Marleau Also claims the Red Wings have a ha#d-on for Enroth and are trying to sniff around Get a big salt shaker folks I thought you'd enjoy!

Not sure I understand the basis for the Red Wings/Enroth rumor. They still have Osgood at the pro level; as a backup and possible future starter they have Jimmy Howard, who is the top prospect in their system according to HockeysFuture.com; they have a guy like Enroth in Daniel Larsson, who actually beat out Enroth for the Rookie of the Year honors over in SEL, and they just drafted Thomas McCollum in the first round. Oh well, I guess you can't call it a day until you have a "Sabres goalie is going to the Red Wings" rumor, huh?

Also saw they are speculated as liking Miller..I just spent the past half hour trying to figure a trade with them and I couldnt..Either it was too little coming back or not enough going there way...LOL
shrader Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 Not sure I understand the basis for the Red Wings/Enroth rumor. I have a one word explanation for that. It starts with "Ec" and end with "klund".
Bmwolf21 Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 I have a one word explanation for that. It starts with "Ec" and end with "klund". I understand that, but does he think that no one knows anything about these teams? I mean how stupid does he think we are? :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash: Wait, never mind - don't answer that. He's got a lot of douchebags paying to read that crap, so I guess he knows how uninformed some are (not a shot at anyone here who pays for his site, but based on the garbage he posts overall...)

carpandean Posted June 29, 2008 Report Posted June 29, 2008 yea, i thought they gave up a lot for negotiating rights for 3 days. Seems silly at this point. Despite what is said around here, it only takes one day to work a deal if both parties are willing (which may or may not be the case here.)
Taro T Posted June 29, 2008 Report Posted June 29, 2008 Despite what is said around here, it only takes one day to work a deal if both parties are willing (which may or may not be the case here.) That's true, but if Tampa is willing to give Malone X, what does he lose by waiting through the weekend to see if any of the other 28 teams will offer Y or Z? Unless Tampa is a place that he really wants to end up, he has almost nothing to gain by signing a deal this weekend. Of course, Roberts is close to retirement, maybe he's already got his senior living facility all scoped out and the Lightning were afraid he was going to be looking at the Miami Cats and the Golden Girls (hey, maybe he has a thing for Bea Arthur) and that was the real focus of this deal. ;)
Two or less Posted June 29, 2008 Report Posted June 29, 2008 I'm still stunned at how dumb Tampa Bay is. They just seem to get dumber each year. Last year, even though they traded away a star, i felt they were going in the right direction. I thought now they will rebuild with Stampkos and be on their way. So, they hired an IDIOT for head coach and now are after Gary Roberts and Ryan Malone? Are you kidding me...... wtf will they do? Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews had great rookie seasons and they missed the playoffs. They have 2 unproven goalies. And their defense is garbage. I can't think of a worse defense in the league. If they sign Dimitri Kalinin, he'd jump up to be their #1 d-men on their roster, thats how bad it is in Tampa. They can add Tavares next year if they want, they still ain't going anywhere with 2 great lines, and a horrid defense and unproven goalies.

You would think that would give them a leg up on signing him.
deluca67 Posted June 29, 2008 Report Posted June 29, 2008 Tampa will be in the top 8 next year. In the draft?
tom webster Posted June 29, 2008 Report Posted June 29, 2008 In the draft? Let me make it clearer. Tampa will make the playoffs next year.
SabresFan526 Posted June 29, 2008 Report Posted June 29, 2008 I think the Lightning are counting on the fact that Greg Malone works for them as being an enticing reason for Ryan to sign with Tampa. Maybe so. I think regardless the Lightning have to give him his market value for 4-5 years. From a cap perspective, I think Tampa can get it done. St. Louis and Lecavalier are under contract for next year on their old deals. Vinny's new deal will only go in effect beginning 2009-2010. Stamkos will be on his entry level max contract for the first 3 years, so there is no impact of his contract over the next 3 years. So, getting Malone on the second line makes sense. Also, I think it's tough to say how bad their blueline was without Boyle. A full season with Boyle and Mike Smith as an upgrade over Holmqvist and Dennis might be an indication. I'm not sure many have seen Mike Smith play, but he gave Turco a run and almost replaced Turco as the starter in Dallas, so he's actually a pretty good goalie. Give Smith a shot and Tampa could really compete next year and make the playoffs. Should be interesting.
Eleven Posted June 29, 2008 Report Posted June 29, 2008 Let me make it clearer. Tampa will make the playoffs next year. In that craptastic division, anything is possible.
slapshot1619 Posted June 29, 2008 Author Report Posted June 29, 2008 Saw it another thread but Didn't see it here, but if it is I apologize Malone and Roberts Agree to terms with Tampa
