Mike Green? Schneider?

On Schneider...

With Niedermayer announcing his return, look for Schneider to be moved, and quite a few teams have interest including NY Islanders (e3) and Buffalo (e2)

On Mike Green...

Here's your first offer sheet rumours for the day...I am hearing that Green WILL get a sheet if he goes past July 1, and some teams are so worried that they are trying to trade for Green's rights. One rumour that I am hearing is that the Sabres may offer up Afinogenov to Washington for Green's rights in a deal that could go down this weekend IF the Capitals feel that Green is out of reach. Other teams interested in Green (and yes all 29 are interested, but these are the teams that I am hearing specifically) are San Jose, Toronto and the NY Rangers.

OK Schneider in Buffalo is like adding an older Soupy.

Mike Green is a good player not sure if it fits what the sabres need up front and why would they trade Max for the rights for him???? Is Dracy gets anyones 'rights' he should be run outta town. I really hope the sabres never trade anyone for "rights" since we have a great track record of getting people the signed.

I really wish that dbag would quantify levels of interest, and not just with his ridiculous e-system. Are the Sabres interested in most players that are available? Probably. But how do you characterize that level of interest? Is it a "we'll certainly listen to offers" interest or is it a "we're interested in actively pursuing this player" interest?

Sometimes I really hate the rumor mill leading into the FA period...

More or less, I tend to agree with you. However, because Mike Green is an RFA and not a UFA, if the Sabres do in fact trade Max for Green, the Sabres can immediately make the qualifying offer to retain his rights, and prevent him from getting offer sheets by filing for team initiated arbitration in order to extend the deadline to re-sign him. By doing this, the Sabres can negotiate a contract for Green up until the time of the arbitration hearing, and as we all have seen in the past, Darcy is excellent at getting guys signed within 5 minutes of the start of the arbitration hearing. I'd take Green and keep his rights if you take him to arbitration and prevent him from getting an offer sheet.

Overall, I don't see this happening and the Caps would be stupid to trade Green or not re-sign him. Ovechkin and Huet will cost some money, but you have to have Green there. The rest of the team is relatively affordable, including re-signing Federov. I don't see how they wouldn't keep Green.

As for Schneider, he's old, but he's still pretty good and very good on the PP. He's a good PP QB. I think he's a bit expensive and his skillset could be had for much cheaper with Hainsey and Liles on the market. Although, I would not be opposed to having Schneider here if it did not cost a lot in terms of trading with Anaheim.

Havent followed Greens career can anyone explain his strengths and weaknesses..And what he would bring to the Sabres that they dont already have?

Didn't know he was a RFA it makes it a little better but not great since anyone coming to buffalo now knows that they do not offer top dollar.

Schneider would be a great PP QB agree but what dollar amount who he want? Im thinking he would get near 5 million on the market now and still doesn't address the need for a younger physical D-man. I think all the rumors are just Darcy calling up and saying hey will take him for a almost 50% pay cut.

Schneider's already signed to a two year deal, so this would be the second year of the deal. We can only get him via trade. I'd take him if it won't cost the Sabres much to trade for him. But, I think the Sabres can get his skillset for a cheaper price on the open UFA market.

It's always good to see some Eklund. So, in addition to Washington, which is trying to re-sign him, 29 other teams are interested, and some teams WILL make an offer. That's some awesome crystal ball he has, there.

In other news, tomorrow evening, after it's not light out anymore, it probably will be dark. But I'm hearing specifically that it will become dark sometime after 630pm and before midnight.

Keep it coming, Bam. Someone needs to monitor the guy.

They are not going to work out a deal for someones rights (especially this close to July 1) and not already have a deal done in principal, or know what the player wants, and that its around what they will pay, and that they can get the player signed in time. No team (besides maybe the Leafs) are that dumb that they would trade for someone (especially this close to July 1) and not know if they can sign them in time

I'm pretty sure Eck is no more qualified to talk rumors than anyone on this board--probably not as qualified as some in fact.

But Green's rights for Max makes a ton of sense even this late in the game. The Sabres move Max and his salary--which seemed assured at season's end. Washington seems like a good fit for him. In return, they get a chance to land a defensemen that is right in their wheelhouse--big, young with a right handed shot. IF he signs with someone else, the Sabres could end up with a boatload of draft picks (what would we have received for Vanek again?) This just sounds like a Darcy move.

This would be friggin beautiful. I'd expect the Sabres to have to add more to the deal in fact. I have to be missing something here...

I understand that too, but I just don't see any team dealing for a players rights without atleast being very close to working out a deal. Of course its better to do that with a RFA cause the player really has no other choice then to sign with the team, or hope they get a better offer from someone willing to give up some draft picks for them.

I think what Buffalo will have to give up is going to depend on how far apart the Caps and green are on a deal, and how much they like Max. If they know they will be losing Green anyways, they may take someone like Max knowing he can help them now and it won't be a move that will only help in the future like picks will

Not sure when that report was written. Green is a potential all-star mainly because of his offensive skill, but that isn't a knock on his defensive skill. I've watched quite a few of his games and noticed that he is quite solid with moving the puck and creating fast-break chances. He can also stand his own 1 on 1 against some of the better forwards in the league.

With that said, I would kill for him to be a Sabre. He really is that good. And he's only 22. But because this comes from Ek, it won't happen. I doubt the Caps let him get away. They'll likely end up matching a ridiculous contract for him like Buffalo had to last year.
