darksabre Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 Only problem, Hedberg re-upped with Atlanta last week. I think Enroth was on to something when he meantioned Aebescheir(sic?). I really wouldn't mind Aebischer. If we could steal him back from Switzerland it might not be a bad idea.
Goodfella25 Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 I really wouldn't mind Aebischer. If we could steal him back from Switzerland it might not be a bad idea. Let's just get Mika Noronen back...seriously, he's an NHL UFA even though he's been playing in Europe.
X. Benedict Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 Only problem, Hedberg re-upped with Atlanta last week. I think Enroth was on to something when he meantioned Aebescheir(sic?). Missed that. Aebeshire (sic?) would be good.
darksabre Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 Let's just get Mika Noronen back...seriously, he's an NHL UFA even though he's been playing in Europe. And he's a brawler! :chris:
Bmwolf21 Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 new guy response: 1-Hossa will probably get a Briere type as mentioned somewhere but definitely not in Buff 2-Campbell, I guess the high 6's low 7's over 6 yrs in the East, but not Buff 3-Goose,Paile,Bernie,& Mac re-up at reasonable amount, i agree, total cap below 5.5 4-Sabres sign a 3-4 line, as mentioned, has been overlooked because of better centers on their former team 5-the only D signed is Teppo because they feel he is in great shape and will lead the defense. Sekera is will be full-time, Paetsch will be full-time, Weber will float between Sabres & Pirates and maybe they pick-up someone similar to Pratt. 6-Max is still with the team this season for the 1st. half, then traded for a 3-4 line L-winger. Welcome to the board! And he's a brawler! :chris: Mika doesn't take no crap from anyone - other teams or goal judges.
ROC Sabres Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 Just heard on WGR that Raycroft was put on waivers. Could probably get him cheap as a backup. Played terrible last season but I'm sure he has some good games left in those pads. Any takers?

Played terrible last season but I'm sure he has some good games left in those pads. Any takers? Honestly, the backup goalie position is one where I don't want to skimp and hope. We saw how bad it was this year when we asked Ryan to carry too much of the load. I'd rather overpay a little for a quality, dependable backup than get one on the cheap and hope he works out. The problem is right now I have no idea who will be a reliable backup...
LabattBlue Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 As someone else suggested, here are my predictions for the free agency period; 1) Hossa will get over $9 million per year 2) Campbell will sign for between $7.5 and $8 and will not be the highest offer 3) Gaustad, Paille, Bernier and MacArthur will re-up for total cap hit of less then $5.5 million 4) The Sabres will sign a third or fourth line center, maybe two veteran forwards 5) The Sabres will sign a "power play specialist" defensemen 6) The Sabres will later surprise by acquiring a stud defensemen #1 I don't think so. #2 See #1 #3 Very probable #4 I'd be surprised #5 Maybe #6 See #1 and #2
Bmwolf21 Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 #1 I don't think so.#2 See #1 #3 Very probable #4 I'd be surprised #5 Maybe #6 See #1 and #2 I'm fairly certain Soupy getting more than $6M is a sign of the NHL Apocalypse.
SabresFan526 Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 My predictions 1. Hossa shocks the world and signs the 7 year $50 million deal from Pittsburgh to play with Crosby 2. Malone signs for $4.5 million/year in Columbus 3. Soupy signs a 7 year $6.5 million/year with No Trade Clause from Ottawa 4. Sabres trade Max for some mid rounders and call up Gerbe or Kennedy permanently (probably goes down during season not on July 1st) 5. Sabres sign Liles for 4 years $12 million on July 6th 6. Sabres would have made a play for Orpik, except he re-signed with Pittsburgh because of Malone signing in Columbus/opting for UFA 7. Sabres sign Alex Auld to backup Miller 8. Sabres sign Brendan Morrison to center the Hecht and Pominville line 9. Teppo returns for 1 year at $2.6 million 10. Kotalik and Connolly go nowhere 11. Miller re-signs for 5 years at $30 million 12. Pominville re-signs at 7 years $35 million Those are my predictions
2ForTripping Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 Just read that Emery may be headed to Russia saw it over at Spectors also the Duber may play in the KHL as well
Bmwolf21 Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 Just read that Emery may be headed to Russia saw it over at Spectors also the Duber may play in the KHL as well Well Emery already kicked Marty's ass, so now he wants a piece of tough guy Mika Noronen...
spndnchz Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 I'm fairly certain Soupy getting more than $6M is a sign of the NHL Apocalypse. This would be as shocking as finding out Bradshaw was on steroids in the '70's. Oh, wait...
Taro T Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 As someone else suggested, here are my predictions for the free agency period; 1) Hossa will get over $9 million per year 2) Campbell will sign for between $7.5 and $8 and will not be the highest offer 3) Gaustad, Paille, Bernier and MacArthur will re-up for total cap hit of less then $5.5 million 4) The Sabres will sign a third or fourth line center, maybe two veteran forwards 5) The Sabres will sign a "power play specialist" defensemen 6) The Sabres will later surprise by acquiring a stud defensemen Not really focusing in on July 1, as I only see the 1st 2 items happening that day. Hossa will get just under $9MM/year. His deal will be a Briere-type deal with a year or 2 at the end for significantly lower than the average salary so a team can buy him out easier if necessary and so his cap hit isn't quite as big as it should be. Campbell will sign for $7MM+. Cap hit for the 4 prime RFA's will be between $5.2 - 5.8MM. Sabres will bring in an UFA d-man, 2 counting one of Teppo/Pratt. Sabres will make a trade for a veteran (late 20's, early 30's) forward in latter part of summer. Kotalik will be part of the package. Sabres will have one more trade around Thanksgiving bringing in a defenseman. (If Orpik is the UFA d-man the Sabres nab, this probably doesn't happen.) Kalinin will play better in a new environment. Miller and Pominville each sign 6 year deals. Spacek gets extended in the early part of the season. If Connolly stays healthy through 1st quarter of the season, he stays healthy the whole season. Sabres bring in older backup goalie that looks reasonable, but due to lack of playing time ends up being a repeat of past recent UFA goaltending signings. (IF Sabres fly out of the gate, this MIGHT not happen.)

The problem is right now I have no idea who will be a reliable backup... Was it because Ryan played too much or because he knew the D couldn't clear out the front of the net? I agree a solid back up is needed just wondering if more than one factors was the case.

Bmwolf21 Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 Both were factors, but Ryan certainly started too many games last season. Bingo. Although I wouldn't be too upset if we overpaid a little for a nasty, crease-clearing physical defenseman who gets our goalies' backs...
jimiVbaby Posted July 1, 2008 Report Posted July 1, 2008 Hossa gets 8mm average per in BostonCampbell gets 7mm average per in Chicago Max is shipped to Calgary for a 4th and a C level prospect Hard hitting 6th d-man brought in via trade 3rd line veteran center brought in via trade Needless to say I don't expect much. So far I'm doing quite well in this game...

jimiVbaby Posted July 1, 2008 Report Posted July 1, 2008 I feeling pretty good about my picks so far as well. I'm crying foul, what are the chances of knowing every other offer? Slim.
tom webster Posted July 1, 2008 Author Report Posted July 1, 2008 I'm crying foul, what are the chances of knowing every other offer? Slim. Don't have to know every other offer, just that Atlanta offered $60 million. This guy is awesome for legit hockey stuff. http://ww3.startribune.com/blogs/wildblog/
wjag Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 1-- Hossa, who cares... He ain't coming to the thrifty Sabres. He'll probably somehow fit under the cap in NY.2-- Orphik will resign with the Penns 3-- Max will be a Sabre 4-- Campbell will be playing for some WC team and he'll be paid handsomely. 5-- Sundin will retire 6-- The Sabres will insult Pomminstein with a low offer sealing the deal for his eventual departure 7-- Sabres will sign a puzzling back-up goalie. 8-- Teppo will retire 9-- Bernier will sign with someone else By the way, Melrose to coach the 'ning starting today.. So-so.. Blew the Orpik call.. Hossa still on the market...
