shrader Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 I think this story may have been lost in the shuffle from this weekend, but the new Tampa owner made a very nice move on Saturday. David Carle, brother of San Jose defenseman Matt Carle was projected as a 2nd round pick, but was recently diagnosed with a heart condition that will end his career. Tampa drafted him in the 7th round. Koules (Tampa owner) said that Carle had worked so hard to get to this point and he deserved the feeling of being drafted. Yes, its just a 7th round pick that probably wouldn't have turned into anything, but still, what a great gesture. I know absolutely nothing about Koules, but he's off to a good start in my book.
chileanseabass Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 koules' son goes to shattuck with carle. i'm not saying he picked him because they're buddies or anything like that, but he did have some ties.

Bmwolf21 Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 Mike Piazza was drafted in the 62nd round, partly as a favor to his father who was good friends with Tommy Lasorda. Not the same situation by a long shot, but sometimes you never know.
