Beans90 Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 here is a top list of free agents. who do you think we should bring in. I was looking at Huselius, he is a pretty good veteran. your thoughts. james duncan Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 I like Langkow, Morrrison and Hedican but expect Morrison to get numerous offers and Hedican to retire. And let's face it, to date, we've been challenged enough just trying to sign our own. I don't suspect we'll win any bidding wars. If they tie up Pommer and Miller, I'd grudgingly call it a successful offseason by Sabre standards.
MarkAF43 Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 I've heard of them! git r done darcy!!! sign as many as you can... run it right to the cap limit.... the hell with everything... Like poker, let's go all in! <_<
Team Strike Force Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 How about Liles or Streit on D. Different styles, but they'd both fit in, I think.
Bmwolf21 Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 How about Liles or Streit on D. Different styles, but they'd both fit in, I think. Liles or Streit are the only new finesse players I want to see in a Buffalslug uniform this season, for PP reasons. Otherwise I want to see more grit and defense.
slapshot1619 Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 I'd Take Auld, Roszival/Streit, and Morrison Not too sure Liles would be that big of a help aside from being a PP quarterback Streit is at least good in his own end
tom webster Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 I'd Take Auld, Roszival/Streit, and MorrisonNot too sure Liles would be that big of a help aside from being a PP quarterback Streit is at least good in his own end Streit hardly played D which is one reason he wants out of Montreal. He didn't like being used on fourth line.

Thats how I had planned to use him... hence the Roszival/Streit remark... both being Dmen I'd take either or, but not both

Thats how I had planned to use him... hence the Roszival/Streit remark... both being Dmen I'd take either or, but not both  My point was that Montreat didn't trust him him to play D so I am not sure how you can say he is good in his own end or why Buffalo should trust him to play D. I do like Rosival and I would like Streit to QB the power play as long as they don't count on him to play a lot of minutes as a defensemen.
FogBat Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 Why isn't Dmitri Kalinen on that list. Why would you want Kalinin on that list? He's not considered a top free agent. :wallbash:
deluca67 Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 Orpik should be on the list. I like Liles & Malone a lot. It would be great if the Sabres could sign one of those three. Two of the three would be awesome but highly unlikely.
BamBam Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 The list is great, but wasn't Spacek the last veteran FA that we signed?
Eleven Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 The list is great, but wasn't Spacek the last veteran FA that we signed? Unfortunately not. But I'll bet you meant skaters only. Off that list, I wouldn't mind giving Auld a shot to replace the last veteran FA that the Sabres signed. Kolzig, if he's interested in a backup/mentor role at a backup/mentor price, might be ok as well. The rest of the goalies, I'm betting, are guys who are going to command too much cash than I think the Sabs should invest in a guy that should start approximately 15-20 (hopefully 20) games. For skaters, Peca is as interesting this year as he was last year. Streit could be ok, and the price probably will be right--could be. Liles will be more expensive, but if the price stays down, he could fit well. Huselius could be a very good addition and probably won't be too expensive. There are a couple of players I know nothing about, but for everyone else on that list (other than some over-the-hill guys and Avery, whom I don't want here), it seems like there will be demand driving the price way up (cf. Jay McKee). I don't want to see the Sabres overpay for anyone just because some fans feel that inaction equals complacency. The Sabres don't need Ryan Malone at $5M/yr or Hossa at upwards of $7M, even though they're good players. Keep the core together and swap a couple of reasonably-priced players in if possible. If the Sabres can pick up one free agent without overspending (I hate overspending, and I think in a capped league, it's detrimental long term), I'll be really happy. Huselius at $3M-ish and Streit for a little less would be fine by me. (I know. Streit might command more, because there aren't a lot of defensemen. I wouldn't pay it. I might go a little farther for Liles, but not a lot.)
Kristian Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 I'll take Peca as a veteran foward 3rd/4th liner, and PK specialist, at 1.5 mill.
Kristian Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 Who is this "Kalinin" you speak of? You remember Kalinin? The deflection specialist? Too bad his tip-ins always went in the wrong net.
X. Benedict Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 I like Langkow, Morrrison and Hedican but expect Morrison to get numerous offers and Hedican to retire. If they tie up Pommer and Miller, I'd grudgingly call it a successful offseason by Sabre standards. I think Hedican is pretty much done. He might sign for San Jose or Vancouver for a year for the income, but I don't expect him to.
Goodfella25 Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 Mark Streit is exactly the kind of player I see us bringing in. He's 31 years old, but he should be somewhat affordable, plays in all situations and can play defense as well as forward. He's a great fit to solidify the lineup and can play in any situation. He was one of the players you'd call the "backbone" of the Canadiens' lineup last season. However, the big probem the Sabres are going to have to address is losing some weight at the forward position prior to the free agent period. Or at the very least, getting rid of two or more guys within the first couple weeks so we still have a shot at some decent unsigned players. As it sits right now, speaking strickly about forwards, we can't sign any of these UFAs until we move some bodies off of the roster. No way I see Darcy loading up for forwards and then figuring it all out later. We all know that's (thankfully) not his style.
Bmwolf21 Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 You remember Kalinin? The deflection specialist? Too bad his tip-ins always went in the wrong net. Hmmm...not ringing a bell...perhaps I have blocked out any and all memories of this "Kalinin."
carpandean Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 Unless someone like Orpik is willing to take a home town discount, I don't see us signing anybody on a FA list this year. First, FA is like an auction, which mean that the team that values the player the most is usually the one that ends up with him. Just like in other auctions, that usually means the winner has overvalued the "item". Second, as Goodfella pointed out, we are overloaded with forwards, so trades make far more sense as a way to trim the fat and bring in someone new. I expect Darcy to make 1-2 trades this Summer, but other than that, they'll be working on getting Miller and Pommer locked up.

Only takes one desperate jackass to completely blow the market on each player, which is why I agree the trade route is much more likely.
Rayzor32 Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 We need that clutch veteran center that can win draws and provide leadership. Since Sundin is likely staying in Canada (or Detroit), I'll take any of the following: Langkow Conroy Holik Any of them would help us get back to the playoffs...along with a top 4 D-Man and a backup that can play a dozen games...
