BamBam Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 The Buzz Link Afinogenov to Caps or Avs looking possible. Canucks Bieska to the Hurricanes rumour. Not sure who would come back...Cole? Brian Campbell to Ottawa is growing and growing... The Sabres and Flyers are both rumoured to be interested in Nashville D-man Koistinen. The Sabres would like to acquire the rights for Dupuis who I am told will NOT be a Penguin. ---------------------------------------------------------- I wonder what it would cost beside MAX to land Bieska from Vancouver?
Bmwolf21 Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 So I guess that means we cross the Caps and Avs off the list of potential trade partners interested in Max...
BamBam Posted June 21, 2008 Author Report Posted June 21, 2008 Basically...I would agree with that. I would be ok with Bieska if we could get him at a reasonable price.
jrsarkov Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 great. we really need campbell in the division. we don't have enough problems beating ottawa already.

I wouldn't mind Dupuis at all. Seems like a guy with a lot of energy and plays 100% on every shift. Oh yeah, he can score, too. Seems like a good 3rd or 4th liner to go with Goose, Mair, or maybe Connolly.
ROC Sabres Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 I wouldn't mind Dupuis at all. Seems like a guy with a lot of energy and plays 100% on every shift. Oh yeah, he can score, too. That one kills me the most..We dont sign our own UFA before July 1st yet we are gonna make a trade so we can negotiate with the player before July 1..LOL
ROC Sabres Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 great. we really need campbell in the division. we don't have enough problems beating ottawa already. We don't have trouble beating them. Ottawa just has trouble losing to us.
shrader Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 I'm absolutely sick of all these "Sabres looking to acquire the negotiation rights for..." rumors. Its not going to happen. First of all, its not a very common practice around the league. 2nd, its not something I can ever see the Sabres doing, especially for someone like Dupuis.

Its actually now starting to pick up and be thrown around as an idea more now. Teams are letting other negotiate early, or give them rights to negotiate to work out a deal before making a trade (the Leafs just gave Montreal the right to speak with Sundin, if he signs with them they get a 2nd next year, the Sens repordedly tryed shopping the rights to Redden). Its just becoming a bit more of a common thing now with the cap to deal rights of players before they become FA's. Of course though, I agree, i don't see Buffalo doing it, but I also don't see Buffalo even trading for any "big name" players, they will do their usual and go for guys that have not played to their potential and hope that Buffalo can bring it out of them. Expect deals for more Bernier type players this offseason
tom webster Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 The practice of "acquiring rights" is actually something I can see Buffalo doing. They are clearly incapable of negotiating within hours as other teams signing free agents are so the extra time may help them. As for Max, Darcy is again quoted as saying he is going to talk to Max's agent. Now before everyone jumps all over me, i know its possible that Darcy is not being totally forthcoming, but if he is telling the truth it is just another indication that this team operates slower then most. I don't know if its the streamlined FO or just a lack of desperation, but so far this off season is business as usual.

Soupy just needs to stop being a pansy and sign something so we can end this story. His career will end in SJ; I'll give him 3 seasons at best in OTT before he craps out. Dupuis? I'm sketchy on this one only because he played on lines with Crosby, Malkin & Hossa <_< I'm not sure he would be as impressive paired with MacArthur,Mair or Peters  Thanks for the comics for the day

As far as being a pansy I hightly doubt the definition of being a Pansy is waiting till the start of freeagency to shop your services to the highest bidder...

Expect deals for more Bernier type players this offseason The fact that acquiring rights is being thrown around more is exactly what I'm talking about. Just because people are mentioning it in the press doesn't mean those deals are actually happening. The Sundin situation isn't proof that its happening either. That's a very strange situation where quite personally, I think the league needs to step in and stop it. Montreal hasn't given up a thing, yet they're the only team allowed to talk to Sundin. If they do reach an agreement, then they'll turn around and make an actual trade. The problem is if they haven't reached a deal by the 1st, it didn't cost them a thing, yet they will have been given an early jump on the start of free agency. Suddenly tampering is ok if the team agrees to it. And in response to the bolded line, 3 players rights have been traded, with one team being involved in all 3 deals. That's not exactly "becoming a bit more of a common thing". It was actually far more common in the pre-lockout days.
WayneGibbous Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 Canes would be stupid to let Cole go. But they have made some crap roster moves on recent years...

This practice is no different then allowing players under contract try and work out their own trade. It is now being reported that San Jose has given select East conference teams permission to speak to Campbell. Would be nice if Buffalo would get in on the action but I'm sure Darcy's busy getting those four qualifying offers ready or looking for Don Meehan's phone number.

So we can give up something for right to negotiate with a one-dimensional player we had under contract for 3/4 of last year and had to trade because we still couldn't get a deal done?

Two or less Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 People still take Eklund seriously? Come on....

Do you really want the Sabres to spend $6+ million per year on Soupy, or is this just a gratuitous shot at Darcy? There is no way he is coming here or anywhere else for less than that.

Was actually talking about Max with regard to Don Meehan. The Campbell ship has sailed.
tom webster Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 Just to clarify my position. Want Buffalo to go after players they may be interested in (Ralston, Orpik, whoeever) not Brian. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

There is no way he is coming here or anywhere else for less than that. A) He will get offered close to $8 million although he may take less to sign with the team of his choice (Ottawa or NYR) B) As many times as I've said, I do not take shots at Darcy gratuitous or otherwise. It is Quinn and Golisano, mostly Golisano, who I have a problem with. I do think that they have put too much on Darcy's plate in order ot eliminate that costly layer of management.
james duncan Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 I've watched the Caps pretty closely the last two seasons and thought Washington would be a good destination for Max. I really thought that they'd be a player for Campbell. They could use a puckmover back there to feed O. At last check, they had a ton of money to spend under the cap and were actually drawing really well at the end of the season.
