slapshot1619 Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 and No goalies... Must be a weak Goalie crop as Darcy usually has one goalie taken each draft
ROC Sabres Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 and No goalies... Must be a weak Goalie crop as Darcy usually has one goalie taken each draft Kind of a statement if you ask me that they are going to do everything they can to lockup miller.
shrader Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 and No goalies... Must be a weak Goalie crop as Darcy usually has one goalie taken each draft Well they did surprise a bit last year by taking two goalies and they get an extra year out of the rights for Eidsness since he'll be a freshman this year.
outlaw16511 Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 I like what Darcy did with this draft. He went after defense and center. No doubt the Sabres want to be stronger on D and strong at the center position. Hopefully he also starts working on getting rid of our log jam of forwards for some NHL defensemen. I like the game plan he showed with this draft. Last year he was all over the board and this year an obvious plan took shape.
wjag Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Now maybe we can package these four prospects for a real d-man..
shrader Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Kind of a statement if you ask me that they are going to do everything they can to lockup miller. This draft says absolutely nothing about the status of Miller. Outside of the first or 2nd round, goalies aren't generally drafted based on need. Teams take them later in the draft to stockpile players that they think may have a chance. Hell, just look at when we drafted Miller. We already had Hasek and two highly regarded first round goalies in Biron and Noronen. Miller was not selected based on need. He was drafted as a "hey, why not" scenario.

Argue that!

Hahaha thanks. But the sabres do have the ability to find late round gems. so the fact that Miller was a 5th rounder really doesn't mean that they thought he was a wasted. Although, they might have thought so. I'm just trying to be positive about them wanting to lock up miller. Can we at least agree on that?
tom webster Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Kind of a statement if you ask me that they are going to do everything they can to lockup miller. Only problem with this logic is that Darcy said on GR that he tried to move up from the second round to the end of the first to pick Thomas McCollum.

And beyond that, there wasn't anything available when they picked at any other point in the draft that they were interested in.
Two or less Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Now maybe we can package these four prospects for a real d-man.. ummm no. But we will sign either Orpik or Liles. Bank on it.
carpandean Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 ummm no. But we will sign either Orpik or Liles. Bank on it. It better be Orpik if you are looking for a real defenseman. Liles is a third-pair, PP specialist and while he might be an improvement there, he does not fill our big defensive need.
