stenbaro Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 TSN is reporting Tanguay to the Habs for the 25 th pick http://tsn.ca/
bob_sauve28 Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 As if the Habs weren't deadly enough. Will be interesting to see how their young goaltender bounces back from the playoffs
Guest Sloth Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 Monty is going to be GOOD this year. W/ Tanguay added to the best pp/pk team in the league, how can they not be considered a Cup contender? I guess the question mark is Price. The guy looked like a deer in headlights in the playoffs. I think they're going for it all this year. Getting off topic. How can Ottawa think Campbell will help them? Spezza, Heatley, and Alfredson are already taking up a good portion of their salary cap. Campbell would be an additional 7 mill. If Campbell is on the team, Ottawa loses depth, which is a MUST have.

LINK Cap hits: Heatley - $7.5M Spezza - $7.0M Alfredsson - $4.41M Fisher - $4.2M Total of $23.11M for four guys.

Basically, it's Campbell substituted for Redden as Campbell will make basically what Redden has been making the last two years if not slightly more. Assume the increase in cap, plus a portion of Emery's salary off the books and the Sens are pretty much ok in the way of the cap. The extra increase by about $6 million will probably be just enough to get Vermette, Mezsaros, and the others signed. That's my take from a cap perspective. Whether it will work or not is a whole other story.

That's two goalies, nine forwards and three defensemen. Assuming the cap is $56M next season, that would give them $14M to sign 7-9 players. The goalie situation is a wash, because I think they'll have a cap hit if Emery is released outright plus the cost of a new goalie. Stick Campbell's $7M+ deal in there and they're looking at $7M to sign 6-8 players. It's possible, but it would be very tight.

I'm just saying they won't have a 4 line team they were known for, if they signed Campbell.

I hope that he does go to the Sens...He would be a great addition plus with all those giveaways and weak play in his zone it will be much easier to beat them..Seeing as he is a weak powerplay specialist he will hurt their powerplay as well..Add onto all that he will eat up a majority of their cap space as well... You turned me over to the other side :w00t:

FearTheReaper Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 Will be interesting to see how their young goaltender bounces back from the playoffs Thats the only problem with the Habs. Price has potential but lacks confidence. He was under to much pressure up in Montreal to be effective in the playoffs. All i know is, with Tanquay to the Habs and potentially Campbell to the Sens, taking the division will seem impossible.
