carpandean Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 I'm watching it at NHL.com. The link is the #1 news spot.
Bmwolf21 Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Internet pet peeve no. 34 - video links that are not properly labeled with some sort of little TV icon or other warning that clicking on the link will pop open a video player. :wallbash:
carpandean Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Luke Adam looks like a good power forward, but I might have taken the last Staal brother just on pedigree alone.
tom webster Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 I think Buffalo had a golden opportunity to draft the best goalie available this year with their second first round pick. No goalie had been taken yet. Not sure who was the best, but this was the chance to prepare for life after Miller. I know there is Enroth incubating in the minors, but drafting the next goalie has to be a priority for every team. The second first round pick was a bonus. Actually, Nashville had taken Chet Pickard with the eighteenth pick.
tom webster Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 You guys are getting way too upset about what these picks meaans for this year's team. Other then Mike Weber, I expect no significant contribution this year from anyone drafted after 2005. If they are lucky, these guys will be competing for a spot on Portland in two years. The real improvement better come between now and July 10th or so.

However, I wouldn't mind seeing a trade or two involving players and this year's picks. Side note: it really annoys me that picks are going on in the background and they're just talking away. Then, they throw in a "just to keep you up to date ..." It's like watching a game on VS where they talk, talk, talk and then throw in a "oh look, they scored."
ROC Sabres Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Anyone have any idea what we got for the pick trade? Since these guys are about as up-to-date as the mullet hairstyle.

There is no doubt that I would have liked to see some movement to acquire a vet but I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt till the first week or two in July. Darcy did say that he talked to a team about a d-man (Koistinen??). Remember, the Peca trade came after the draft. Also, I would not be surprised to see Max moved in the next couple of days for a pick next year.
carpandean Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Anyone have any idea what we got for the pick trade? No idea. But, they're "continuing to keep us up to date." :wallbash:
inkman Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 You guys are getting way too upset about...anyone drafted... Fixed. Many of these picks will never pan out while some no-name low round pick will burst onto the scene and become a real player. That is the problem when drafting kids. You just never know...unless you are the Red Wings, they seem to know.
ROC Sabres Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 No idea. But, they're "continuing to keep us up to date." :wallbash: Got LA's 81st and picked up Corey Fienhage, Defenseman. Link Not sure what else we got with it.

That is the problem when drafting kids. You just never know...unless you are the Red Wings, they seem to know. Even they don't really know. If they did, Datsyuk and Zetterberg would have been first round picks. Its like Jimmy Johnson said, you draft a lot of the guys who fit your mold and if you are any good, some of them are bound to turn out.
Two or less Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 No idea. But, they're "continuing to keep us up to date." :wallbash: We got 81st and 101st picks in this years draft....
wjag Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 I thought VS was really bad coverage last night. Today is even worse. One good thing is it is in HD. One bad thing is they don't take advantage of the screen size to add stats, etc. NHL coverage is beyond amateurish. No wonder hockey is a fourth and sinking fast. I like how they ask each of these kids if they are prepared to make the Fall NHL Roster. And how do you like that high tech draft board?
wjag Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 They still have the golden opportunity in the second round. A lot of scouting boards had McCollum as the number one North American goalie (some didn't; TSN has Chet Pickard), but just about everything I saw--and heard from the Versus guys--said that Jacob Markstrom was the best goalie in this draft. I would have loved to see the Sabres go local for a great goalie, though. I'm not sure the Miller-to-Detroit speculation is over (I hope it is though). Detroit keeps its goalies in the minors for a long time. My bad. I still think a top tier goalie was the choice. Free Agency has a way of wrecking long term plans.

This coverage is so bad that I might as well wait to later tonight to check who we took. Someone should be fired. Seriously.
shrader Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Can someone please tell me why a Max trade has to happen this weekend? They have plenty of time for that.
ROC Sabres Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Can someone please tell me why a Max trade has to happen this weekend? They have plenty of time for that. My guess is they are going to try to do a player for player trade with someone. I would prefer that so we have someone in the system right away instead of getting a pick in the 2014 draft.

Anyway, I don't understand the logic from many in this thread. They want someone out of this draft that will make an immediate impact, they see now that everything we're going to pick won't step up right away... but they still want to dump Max for picks. Oh, and everyone we draft is a wasted pick.

inkman Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Can someone please tell me why a Max trade has to happen this weekend? Sabres fans will sleep better knowing he's not on the team anymore? Just a guess...
shrader Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 3 incoming BU freshman taken within 5 picks at the end of the 3rd/start of the 4th. This could be an interesting season. We've already had 5 players drafted. Edit: Awww crap, Nicastro's coming in 2009.
Two or less Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 101st pick.... Sabres pick Justin Jokinen.
wjag Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Sabres fans will sleep better knowing he's not on the team anymore? Just a guess... I still like Max. Sure he represents chaos on the ice, but he can be electric. I'm willing to write last year off as and off year and look for better things to come. I see we finally go a Jokinen....
