Just got home from a party. Let me see if I have this right...

- We passed on a tough blueliner in Teubert, took a giant blueliner instead and gave up a 3rd round pick to move up one spot in order to do it. <_<

- We passed on another tough blueliner in Carlson to draft a midget center. <_<

-Max, Connolly and Kotalik are all still Sabres. <_<

A banner night for Regier. <_<

I do agree. I mean, there is still more chances tomorrow for deals, but i am disappointed that we didn't make a deal today. I really hoped we'd deal Max, Connolly or Kotalik today and cut our payroll. I really am hoping for improvements. I wanted Brooks Orpik but without dealing Max i don't see it. I also think they need to add another goal scorer, someone who will help the PP. John-Micheal Liles would help but i think we need to focus on Orpik more and think he'd even be cheaper. I don't know what they will do at forward, but they need to add something. I knew we wouldn't get Gaborik or Jokinin, but i hoped there was something else out there for us.

If Max, Connolly and Kotalik are still on our roster by tomorrow night, i'll be worried and disappointed because that will only mean July 1st will be very quiet and we won't make much improvements via free agency.

So, pick 44. What do people want? I think if we decide to go with another defensman, i'd like to see us get Yann Sauve. I heard his upside is unreal. If he works on giving the puck up, he'd be a top 20 pick for sure. He isn't good under pressure and thats why he's dropped. I wonder if thats something they can coach?

If we go forwards, i'd like to see Jarad Staal. He's a good, smart player, and all the Staals seem to be good, so why not. lol

A pair of Tyler?s find themselves in blue and gold

Ottawa, ONT ? It was a night of Tyler?s for the Buffalo Sabres.

The Sabres, with two picks, were full of options in the first round, but decided on staying the course selecting Tyler Myers and Tyler Ennis in the first round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Both may one day be gracing the ice in blue and gold.

Overall, i guess i am satisfied with the two Tylers; realizing we wont see them for 5 years <_< I think I would like to see another large defensemen with this second rounder. (starts @ 9:30am today BTW!)

Aaron Ness from Minnesota still out there!?! I likey @ #44

Phoenix with 4 second rounders coming up! and the big news of Jokinen. My guess is going defense for them.

Not that I care, but does Pittsburgh have any draft picks this year?

After a few short hours of sleep today I thought I might wake up and have a different opinion of the first rd drafting by the Sabres. Last night I was shocked they didnt take the more rounded hard checking defenseman the Kings took. That they traded up for him and they drafted a center who doesnt weigh more than 150 lbs...I know the draft is a crapshoot and these players have just as good a chance as anyone as making an impact in the NHL. But why go to such extremes size wise with both picks in a supposed very deep draft..Whats wrong with building your team with NHL size proven players with grit and determination. Thats how Stanley Cups are won. Yet we seem to be trying to reinvent the wheel. These players might turn out to be great hockey players and all this is moot however they just dont seem to fit the mold of what I see lacking in this team. We are missing size up the middle and we are in desparate need of defensamn willing and able to knock the snot out of the oppositions nasal cavities. Neither one of these players do that. We might trade or pickup players in freeagency to fill the NHL roster out but we still need to develop players of that nature on the farm.

Anybody that was expecting Buffalo to get players that were going to help them this year was just mistaken. Even in a best case scenario, any player drafted this year would just be expected to add to the mix. What they need will hopefully be coming in the next few weeks and perhaps as easrly as today by way of trade.

Who said we are trying to win the Stanley Cup?

Just to add more gas to your fire; I am guessing Max, Connolly or anything or anyone else will not be moving for us.

I wasnt expecting them to have players help this team out next yr. If you read my last statement I tried to clarify that..Maybe I didnt do a good enough job in the statement.

The Wings getting Thomas McCullum should end a lot of the Miller to Detroit speculation.

I think Buffalo had a golden opportunity to draft the best goalie available this year with their second first round pick. No goalie had been taken yet. Not sure who was the best, but this was the chance to prepare for life after Miller. I know there is Enroth incubating in the minors, but drafting the next goalie has to be a priority for every team. The second first round pick was a bonus.

Well It is just the first rd last night many players might still be moved today. I expect Max will be one of them..If not he most likely will be in Blue and Gold next yr..

I feel just the opposite. I was very disappointed with the two picks. Meyers seems like another Mike Wilson. It was disappointing when I read that he needs to work on his "tenacity in the defensive zone". If he doesn't have that now he never will. Tenacity is part of who you are you can't learn it from a drill.

As for Ennis? They lost me as soon as they compared him to B-Rod.

It's frustrating to hear the Sabres talk about wanting to get tougher and grittier then they go out and draft a Big Wuss and another Smurf. A lot of teams made moves and got better on Friday. The Sabres are not one of them.

I felt exactly the same way!! I will give them time but damn do you think the Front Office would build things different the 2nd time around

Let's be honest here. Look at the players who moved on Friday. Quality name players. Max doesn't fit in with that group. Connolly? No one is going to want Connolly. The only way the Sabres could trade him is for future considerations and I would guess the Sabres would have to pay a portionof the contract. Kotalik? The Sabres aren't going to move him. He's pretty cheap considering the production. $2.5 million for twenty goals is pretty good. And who knows, Kotalik facing his UFA year could be a motivating factor for him and maybe he breaks the 30 goal mark.

It doesn't happen to often, but as evidenced by my earlier post in this thread we are in 100% agreement.

That is why Myers was a top 15 prospect - his projects to be Mike Wilson Part II.

Mike Wilson was drafted 20th overall. Ahead of Saku Koivu & Todd Bertuzzi. He went 70 spots before Eric Daze and 131 spots ahead of Darcy Tucker.

They still have the golden opportunity in the second round. A lot of scouting boards had McCollum as the number one North American goalie (some didn't; TSN has Chet Pickard), but just about everything I saw--and heard from the Versus guys--said that Jacob Markstrom was the best goalie in this draft. I would have loved to see the Sabres go local for a great goalie, though.

I'm not sure the Miller-to-Detroit speculation is over (I hope it is though). Detroit keeps its goalies in the minors for a long time.

Where can I follow draft updates online? I can't seem to find anything "live" on TSN....

Fisherman Phil

I can't find anything "live" either, but Sportsnet seems to be doing a decent job of updating this pretty quickly. You'll have to refresh a lot, though...

I'm surprised that TSN doesn't have a ticker....
