Two or less Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Talked to one of his buddies today and he told me that the Sabres have shown interest in signing Esche to be the back up. Weak if you ask me. I hope it's not true. lol

I hope it's not true. lol Wow. Didn't play in the NHL last year, played only 18 games the year before. I hope signing Esche is a "Plan Z" and not Plan A, B, or really anything between A - M.
wonderbread Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Yuck. Is Shields still around I think he'd be an upgrade over Esche.
Goodfella25 Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Uh, honestly, I'd rather have Thibault back. If Thibault is "garbage", then I would say Esche is "absolute God-awful rotting trash". I cant wait to see who is the first person on here that writes "actually I don't think it's a bad idea". I know there will be one of you
Kristian Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Actually, I don't think it's a bad idea... I mean, what do we really expect from our backup - a .887 SV% and 3.78 GAA, right?? Esche is a perfect fit for that ;)
shrader Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 His numbers in Russia this year look good enough to get him another shot somewhere in the NHL. The one thing I didn't realize though is that he's still pretty young, only 30. Someone will bring him back.
elcrusho Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Robert Esche has lost it. I was there...
BetweenThePipes00 Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 I'm not sure Esche sounds any better or worse to me than the rest of the guys out there who are a possibility ... after the way Conklin sucked in 06-07 and then was great in 07-08 and T-Bo was great in 06-07 and then sucked the next year ... Dan Ellis wasa 27-year old afterthought with ONE game of NHL experience before last season, then he gets thrown in for Nashville and leads the league in Sv Pct ... these guys are like middle relievers, you never know what you are getting year to year. No matter who they sign, my only reaction will be to cross my fingers and hope for the best.

evil_otto Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 Robert Esche has lost it. He's flipped his lid.
FogBat Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 He's flipped his lid. He's blown his cool. Actually, it's supposed to be the other way around. Does anyone have a clip of it from YouTube? I tried to find it without any luck.

I tried to find it without any luck. It begins with Forsberg going after Roy at about 1:09 in. And is that who I think it is (from this board) brandishing a homemade Cup right after Pominville's goal (about 1:02 in)? Was at that game. It was awesome. I miss the days--not that long ago--when the team played like that.

I noticed that after Esche "LOST IT," he got chased from the net (or did he get tossed from the game by the refs?). At any rate, listening to RJ make that call, I thought that it was quite amusing.
Swedesessed Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 I actually think this would be a decent move. Remember how bad Esche's defense was when he was in Philly??? Slowest defense I can remember in a long long time.

Slowest defense I can remember in a long long time. Warning: Increased font size and FULL CAPS used for effect. "COAST TO COAST! MAXXXXXIM AFINOGENOV!!!!!" Credit to RJ for making that call when we blew out Philly back in September 2006, 9-1. That 6-goal 2nd period rout was one for the ages. It wasn't long after that when Philly had the twofer axe: Bobby Clarke quit as GM, and Ken Hitchcock was fired as head coach the same day.
