WayneGibbous Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 The problem with that approach is that his value would be lower if that happened. If they're ready to move on without him, they need to do it now. Well....I'm not sure how much he really has now.
nfreeman Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 The problem with that approach is that his value would be lower if that happened. If they're ready to move on without him, they need to do it now. I'm not hot to unload him either, but if it going to happen I think now is the right time, both for the reason given by Shrader and because of our glut of wingers and need for a good center and a good defenseman (and, as appears to be the case, our interest in getting another draft pick this year).
Kristian Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Too bad we lost that series on some BS.... Anyway...Typical of miserable Sabres fans to bury a guy who has a crap season (and an injury-plagued one at that). A lot of you are the same people (liars) that call WGR all day and say that they're burning your season tickets in disgust of the Sabres front office moves. Laughable. Goose and Staff had crap seasons...why no threads calling for their necks? I think there's more to the anti-Max sentiment than his performance. This guy has provided some spectacular moments - I think he deserves more than a boot to the ass on the way out the door from Sabres fans. Eeeeeeeasy people. Because Stafford is young, and nobody really expects Gaustad to contribute offensively. Max, on the other hand, is a veteran foward who's been around for almost a decade, and with the departure of CD and DB, he was one of the players Lindy was looking for to step up, and add some experience and leadership. Max was injured yes, but he was clueless before he went down, he was clueless when he came back, and he was equally lost on the ice even when playing for his country at the world championships. My guess - Lindy asked to much of him in terms of being one of the vets, and Max completely imploded under the added responsibility.

But like I said before: if he has another crap year, we can unload him at the deadline, contender or not. okay then, Staff and Goose and our first round pick for Olli Jokinen and keep Max? :chris: arg.
X. Benedict Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 But like I said before: if he has another crap year, we can unload him at the deadline, contender or not. If he has a crap year, his highest value is now. But if you keep him there is a cost involved..... Somebody else gets cut.....(MacArthur?).... The organization has to pay him.... The fans have to watch him.... What line do you put him on? The smart/safe move is to shop him now. Then it is a question of valuation, and how much you can get for him. I think second round value is fair whether or not that involves a pick swap, package, or a hockey trade.
WayneGibbous Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 okay then, Staff and Goose and our first round pick for Olli Jokinen and keep Max? :chris: arg. Eh no. I love the two of them but it just seems many players get a longer leash than Max.
ROC Sabres Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Eh no. I love the two of them but it just seems many players get a longer leash than Max. They have the longer leash because they are still new. Goose has played 3 full seasons and Staff just had his first full season. Max has had 8 or 9 season with the sabres. Other players do get a longer leash but some don't either (Kalinin). Lindy has been pushing the hell out of him all season and he never got to where he wanted him to be so he gave up on him. Other players will eventually get put into the same position as Max has, he's just the target for the FO and fans right now since it has been address to the media.
stenbaro Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Sorry, you're wrong about Hecht. Putting aside the fact that Jochen is a complete, two-way player who kills penalties and can play against the opponents' top line, Jochen also has posted 14-17-31 in 58 playoff games, which is better than Max's numbers (10-13-23 in 49 GP.) Max's game is scoring and offense. If he is not creating prime scoring ops and putting the puck in the net, then he is useless. I hope you're right about Max and we do get more than a 2nd/3rd rounder, but I just don't see it happening. At last an argument we will have a definate answer to in 3 days

We need Connolly healthy for Pommers and Hecht, Max gone so we can play Staff with Vanek and Roy, enough of this switch the lines around to see who like who's smell. Get me a vet forward and a defenseman and get me both NOW. You hear me Regier! <<b$tch switch now turned off>>

I just hope we can get a 2nd or early 3rd for him, because I don't see a big market for him. to the rest of the post (except maybe Connolly. After I'm done running MA out of town, TC is next...)

The running the player oughta here award should be named the Campbell Award..And it should be voted on at the end of the regular season and the winner shall receive the NHL jersey of said run oughta here player. The winner should be determined by a poll vote..We should have a poll before the season starts to nominate players we want to run oughta hear..LOL..

Still banging the "we ran Campbell outta here" drum, huh? Not wanting the team to overpay for a player is not the same as running him out of town. A lot of us ran Kalinin out of town, Max - certainly. But Campbell? No way. Otherwise I like the contest idea, though.

Everyone has their own opinion of what running a player oughta town means..To me it is simple. If you publicly rant to have a player removed from your team of choice for any reason it is running a player ought of town. Whether it be poor play, big nose, too much money, bad spelling, whatever.. On a sidenote my alltime favorite run oughta player myself is Richard Shmelik..My nominee this yr will be Toni Lydman..

If you publicly rant to have a player removed from your team of choice for any reason it is running a player ought of town. Whether it be poor play, big nose, too much money, bad spelling, whatever.. That's weak. It's a salary cap era. Saying that we can't afford to overpay someone like Campbell because we have other big-ticket FA's who need to be re-signed is NOT running him out of town. You have to be objective about the salary cap and how individual players fit into a team's payroll structure, and if you can't re-sign someone without nuking your payroll and salary structure, then you have to move that player out. IMO, no one was publicly ranting to remove Campbell from the team. It was more like debating why he isn't worth a $6 - $8M salary, especially on this team, given their needs, the upcoming big-money free agents, etc.

IF not then you move him/..I think its weak to not man up and say your running him oughta town cuz his salary is too high..Whatever your reason is its still the idea of not wanting him on the team..What difference does it make why? The cap is high enough that you dont have to worry about what a player makes anymore, and its just gonna go up. But I understand where youre coming from..Many people didnt want him signed over 4 mill a year..So its not like they were arguing 6-8 mil it was anything over 4 or mill..

stenbaro Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Anyone planning on attending next weeks rookie camp?
Bmwolf21 Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 sten, if you can't see the difference between wanting Kalinin gone for his inconsistent play, constant lack of confidence, and apparent indifference to Lindy's "encouragement" and realizing that we can't afford to overpay Soupy by $2-4M, then I'll excuse myself from this debate right now. There is a huge difference between wanting someone gone for his play/attitude ("running someone out of town") and objectively dealing with the economic realities of the salary cap. Give him one more year. At least when he is on the ice, good things usually happen. "When he is on the ice" is the key phrase. Playing 113 games in three seasons since the lockout just isn't getting it done. It really should be a "crap or get off the pot" year for TC. Honestly I wouldn't even give him one more year - I'd find a true no.2 center, take TC into the season and hope to get something out of him as a PP specialist, see how his health holds up and look to move him. Besides, right now I'm focused on MA - but my patience is wearing thin with TC.

His fault is he wants too much money, Kalinins fault is he flat out sucks..Both players left or were "ran out of town". Now it was ultimatley Campbells choice to leave he couldve signed the deal if he wanted. But most fans here in this forum would call it and be proud of running him out of town. Thats the feeling I get..Maybe you see it different no problem. It wouldnt be the first time we saw something different.

spndnchz Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 Anyone heard anything on Timbo? Last I heard the surgery went well 2 months ago. No news since then.

I'm sure he has three other surgeries lined up for this offseason, in addition to nine specialist visits, two holistic healing appointments and an acupuncture therapist consultation...
