inkman Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 The only people who like him are chicks and those who know nothing about hockey. Or a combination of the two. My favorite non-Deluca quote ever.
X. Benedict Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Maybe he goes with one of those 2 but Darcy has tried 2 yrs in a row to get that first pick and though they probably dont get the number 1 this yr It wouldnt shock me to see them go after one of the top 3. And if they move any forwards this draft it will be to move up in the first rd not to clear wasted talent for a 2nd rd pick even if this draft is "loaded".IMO... IMO Darcy just isn't the kind of trader to move up to a top 3 pick in the draft, when everybody is looking at the NYSE he usually has his eyes on the AMEX. While I don't see Buffalo moving into the top 10, I could very well see Darcy moving up from #26. But with too many forwards on the roster, the late 1st and middle second is where I suspect he'll deal if at all.
darksabre Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 My favorite non-Deluca quote ever. Thanks? In all seriousness though, the last time I ran into someone who actually liked Max, it was some dumb bitch at Jay's diner who overheard me complaining about how bad he was (as I was watching him single handedly throw away a game against the Canadiens in the spring), and decided she needed to offer her two cents about how "great max is". The Canadiens would score moments later on a 'dazzling' Max giveaway (you know the one, he does it like 12 times a game). I turned to her, "Wow! Did you see that?!" She proceeded to storm out of the back room all pissed off, her two-sizes-too-small Max jersey clinging to her jolly rolls like saran wrap. Probably went home and ate a whole cake while crying salty tears of shame in her milk, trying to convince herself that someday, Max will come to her door and whisk her away. Right.

Chief Enabler Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Oh how quickly we forget just a year ago Or this one from 3 yrs ago http://youtube.com/watch?v=_VcAKESMi_E&feature=related Youtube #1 deserves at least a late first rounder; and the second deserves future considerations. Need I link a serving of Umberger, Soup on the side? Apparently that is fetching 8mil. a serving.
BetweenThePipes00 Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Oh how quickly we forget just a year ago Or this one from 3 yrs ago http://youtube.com/watch?v=_VcAKESMi_E&feature=related I don't think anyone FORGETS ... but those two highlights are not worth the money he is being paid when you consider that someone tried to upload the video of all his turnovers last season but it was such a big file it crashed YouTube's servers. Trades happen. No one is suggesting they should banish the guy back to Siberia ... Danny Gare got traded. Schony got traded. Rick Martin got traded. Pierre Turgeon got traded. Dave Andreychuk got traded. The list goes on. The Sabres got good players in return, sometimes it worked out, sometimes it did not. ... it happens to the best of them. Max is not the best of them ... he's very talented and exciting, sometimes for both teams ... but it's time to part ways.
BetweenThePipes00 Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 I know I've said this before, but this is no ordinary draft. I would take a flyer on the Staal brother in the 2nd round for the right to dump Max. Or Scott Arniel's son, or J.F. Sauve's.... or perhaps even Thomas McCullum if he is still around. My only question is how the hell did J.F. Suave have a kid that is 5' 11" ... did he marry a 6-foot-3 supermodel?
That Aud Smell Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Darcy wont trade him straight up for a 2nd rd pick.. If you can get Max off the books for a top 50 pick in this draft I think he takes it.There is very little chance of anyone giving up a first rounder for a 3.3 million 1 year contract. Hmm. A finesse player, a persistent engima, with a significant cap hit, who's worn out his welcome with the team or, more charitably, needs a change of scenery, and a draft that everyone says in the deepest in recent memory? I'd move him for a late 2nd rounder, hell, even an early 3rd rounder. I keep thinking that Darcy might somehow package Max with our pick at #26 and move further up into the first round, whereby: They get: Max + our #26 We get: Their first round pick this year (at what slot? I have no idea -- the NFL draft geeks are really good at this science, of valuating draft positions) + a mid-level prospect or another lower-round pick in this year's draft (4th?). he's still really dangerous imo. yeah, that danger is a sabre that cuts both ways, unfortunately.
Kristian Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Oh how quickly we forget just a year ago Or this one from 3 yrs ago http://youtube.com/watch?v=_VcAKESMi_E&feature=related That first one is about the only time he's ever been remotely useful playoff-wise. The second one is dumb luck. Pretty, but knowing Max not even he knew wtf he was doing on that play.
X. Benedict Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 My only question is how the hell did J.F. Suave have a kid that is 5' 11" ... did he marry a 6-foot-3 supermodel? I was wondering if something similar happened myself.

Pretty, but knowing Max not even he knew wtf he was doing on that play. Two goals stand out in my mind for Max. The second one is a duh. Most people will never forget that ot goal. The other goal that stands out for Max, in my mind, is the one he scored against the Penguins in the 01 playoffs. I remember him breaking out of the penalty box and the puck was sent up ice to him. He took it in and made Pitt's goalie look SO STUPID. Too bad things are not looking good for him... Can any of you find it on youtube?
inkman Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Too bad things are not looking good for him... Why aren't things looking good? He'll get to move to a market with better "talent" around him, and the players on his team might be talented too. ;)

Pretty, but knowing Max not even he knew wtf he was doing on that play. You forget the breakaway goal against the Pens in 01..He drove the Pens nuts in tha series.. Dumb luck..Naaaahh. If there was such a thing as dumb luck the sabres wouldve won the Cup by now.. I understand he is probably oughta here and I wouldnt mind it I just think he is worth more than youre giving him credit for
Bmwolf21 Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 You could post a highlight of every playoff goal and it wouldn't take long. He has been, at best, a big disappointment come playoff time. 10 goals, 23 points in 49 games is nothing to get excited about, no matter how many of those goals are SportsCenter highlight reel efforts... In the playoffs you need results, not just a couple pretty highlights nor anecdotal evidence of Max driving the other teams nuts and them chasing him around.

Not comparing Afinegenov to Hecht because I would take Hecht over Max from last yr any day of the week but if youre premise is getting rid of Max due to poor playoff outings then Hecht should be right out the door with him.. In the playoffs you need results and Hecht just doesnt cut in in crunch time.. He is by far a solid hockey player but again all I am saying is he is gonna fetch more than a 2nd rdr..LOL..

Putting aside the fact that Jochen is a complete, two-way player who kills penalties and can play against the opponents' top line, Jochen also has posted 14-17-31 in 58 playoff games, which is better than Max's numbers (10-13-23 in 49 GP.) Max's game is scoring and offense. If he is not creating prime scoring ops and putting the puck in the net, then he is useless. I hope you're right about Max and we do get more than a 2nd/3rd rounder, but I just don't see it happening.
spndnchz Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 i get the short-hand when texting, where (i believe) you get charged by the character ... but why ... why, in the name of all that is holy and spelled-out, why persist with them here on sabre space? \hikes black socks up to knees and goes out to tell those damn kids to get off the lawn. Do you want the red pill, or the blue pill?
That Aud Smell Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Do you want the red pill, or the blue pill? wait, shouldn't that simply read "RPoBP"? ;) like you, i hope, i'm just having a laugh (as much at myself as anyone/-thing).

Anyway...Typical of miserable Sabres fans to bury a guy who has a crap season (and an injury-plagued one at that). A lot of you are the same people (liars) that call WGR all day and say that they're burning your season tickets in disgust of the Sabres front office moves. Laughable. Goose and Staff had crap seasons...why no threads calling for their necks? I think there's more to the anti-Max sentiment than his performance. This guy has provided some spectacular moments - I think he deserves more than a boot to the ass on the way out the door from Sabres fans. Eeeeeeeasy people. But like I said before: if he has another crap year, we can unload him at the deadline, contender or not.
shrader Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 But like I said before: if he has another crap year, we can unload him at the deadline, contender or not. The problem with that approach is that his value would be lower if that happened. If they're ready to move on without him, they need to do it now.

But like I said before: if he has another crap year, we can unload him at the deadline, contender or not. Even though he did have probably one of his worst seasons last year. I think the biggest problem with Max is his unpredictability. Watching last season there were times where he would make more moves than he needed to getting into the zone and would draw his teammates offside. Another problem that he had seemed to be his passing. He would make a lot of blind passes that didn't seem to be necessary and ended up going to no one. The last problem that everyone harps on him about is his ability to turn the puck over almost as easy and just putting it on the other teams stick. Max has always been one of my favorite players to watch and he does still have a lot to offer, but I think that a change of scenery is what he needs. As for Goose and Staff, both had average, if not good, seasons.
