carpandean Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 AUK: You may want to link to that net speak article again for the old farts. ("As you know" for those who didn't get it.)
BetweenThePipes00 Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 yeah you really need to make that text-translator link part of your signature or something ...
Goodfella25 Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 I know Ovechkin deserves the Hart but I really would love to see Iginla win it. I've always admired the way he plays and how he's able to come off as a nice guy but then is all intensity on the ice. Exactly the kind of player you build your team around---Darcy, make Calgary an offer they cant refuse!

spndnchz Posted June 12, 2008 Author Report Posted June 12, 2008 Adams goes to: Bruce Boudreau, Caps coach
Hawerchuk Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 Way to go PAT!! Putting Buffalo at the Top, for once!! Congratulations!! Kane raises Calder Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane was the recipient of the Calder Trophy as top rookie over teammate Jonathan Toews and Washington's Nicklas Backstrom. Kane, 19, led all rookies with 72 points in 82 games, including 21 goals. He was drafted first overall by Chicago in 2007. "It was $500 for the winner," Kane said of the bet he made with Toews. "I'll take it."
Doohicksie Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 I think it's funny as hell that Datsyuk won the Lady Bing. He can be a real pest of a player, the kind that pulls a lot of junk away from the play.
Goodfella25 Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 I was kind of annoyed with Ovechkin's "speech" after he won the Hart. He went with the most over-used phrase by hockey players. You know, the one where it's "all about the team", etc. The way he said it made it sound like he completely didn't buy into what was coming out of his mouth. Plus it's the Hart Trophy for God's sake--it's basically all about the individual. Put most Hart Trophy winners on any team and they would still win the award.

To say it's "basically all about the individual" is just not true. History says that award is RARELY won on a team that does not make the playoffs ... the last time a non-playoff guy won it was 1988 when Lemieux had 168 points. If the Caps had missed the playoffs, Malkin may well have won it for carrying the Pens when Crosby was out. Either way, he's 22 and speaking a second language ... not sure you can read into his tone and assume he was not sincere ... I took 12 credits of Spanish in college and got straight A's, and I am sure when I tried to speak it I sounded like a moron to someone from Mexico ... I'll give him a pass.

I don't know why, but for some reason that just brought back memories of the annoying commercial he was in where he orders room service and then says he's Crosby. Wow that's an annoying commercial. To say it's "basically all about the individual" is just not true. Well I think what I meant was the award is about the individual...it's the MVP. It's not "best team". So I would agree that the Hart comes with the playoff territory. However, if you're that amazing, I guess you should be leading your team to the playoffs anyway.
