Kristian Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 I was a 2K guy up until NHL 08. I have a PS3 and 2K8 just took a huge step backwards, and 08 a huge step forward. The EA series just felt too "arcadey" for my taste in previous years, and 2K more of a sim game. EA hit the nail on the head this past year by balancing the two. I will never play a 2K hockey game again. (Please let them fix the freezing issues)... The freezing issues require you to break your Xbox360, apparently. I would get them at random, until suddenly my machine got the ring of death, and I had to get it fixed. It came back making twice the noise (probably a more powerful fan installed to keep it from overheating) and I've had ONE freeze in 100+ games since. Unfotunately, the standard 360 has a design flaw that makes it overheat like crazy. Don't know about the later revisions.
Guest Sloth Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 How many 360 gamers, who have NHL 2K8, do we have in this forum? It'd be pretty cool to play other Sabres fans from this message board. My tag is Da Sabres. I know it's corny. I wasn't paying attention to the fact you have to pay to have your tag switched to something else. Right now, I'd probably go w/ Sabres16. Pat LaFontaine is my favorite player of all time. A number of people say "Dah Saybress" when they see my tag and I'm getting sick of it. Tag: Da Sabres
Guest Sloth Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 Tag: Da BigCock I think you left out sucker
inkman Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 I think you left out sucker  It would be "sucka". Have I not taught my peeps anything around here?
frisky Posted July 21, 2008 Author Report Posted July 21, 2008 Here is a funny fact. David Littman is a NHL 09 producer. I remember his 1 game or so with us. At least I remember only 1 game he played. David Littman Okay, he played 2 games...or more like 1+ (36 mins in one game and 60 in another).
Bmwolf21 Posted July 22, 2008 Report Posted July 22, 2008 Real good article on ESPN's Page 2 about things that video sports games always screw up and/or areas that need to get better. LINK Couple highlights: CPU Cheating Three things you'll never see outside of video games: ? A no-name defensive tackle chasing down Barry Sanders on a breakaway run. ? A middle linebacker leaping five feet in the air to bat down a pass he never even saw coming because his back was turned the entire time. ? Any professional basketball player not named Charles Smith missing more than two point-blank shots in a row. ----- Dumb Football Lead Blockers Dear developers, all we ask is this: When our cement-headed fullbacks and beer-bellied pulling linemen cross the line of scrimmage, please direct them to block the oncoming linebackers directly in front of them as opposed to the defensive backs 15 yards downfield. Merci. ---------- Hockey Power Plays Too easy to stop, even when facing a two-man disadvantage. Penalty killing should make you sweat. Make your thumbs hurt. It should not be a minor inconvenience akin to mistakenly hitting the pause button. Power plays are the long-lost sports gaming brother of tennis serves -- mighty in the real world, meek in the digital realm. Pity. ---- Hockey Fighting Hasn't been fun since the glory days of NHLPA '93. And yes, we know: The NHL licensing department won't be happy if game makers bring back bleeding heads. Still, fun, smooth and responsive fighting shouldn't be too much to ask. If Double Dragon and Bad Dudes could get brawling right, so can hockey games.
Two or less Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 One thing i don't like about video games is, if you play a season mode, i play, after like 20 games i'm a respectable record, like 10 wins, 6 losses and some ot/shootout loses, but after that "learning" stretch, i win like 20 in a row. It's like i play, knowing before i turn the game on, that i'd win. How to fix this?
inkman Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 How to fix this? More Ewok, less Wookie.
Goodfella25 Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 EA released the player ratings for NHL 09...http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/898/898201p1.html Whether you play the game or not is really irrelevant--it is always entertaining to debate the "pro scouts'" ratings. Note that they do not contain the Overall ratings, as those are still being tweaked. Also, averaging the numbers won't give you the overalls because each attribute is weighted differently. This year I don't think they did too bad of a job, however there are some glaring mistakes. Now to debate the Sabres ratings: 1) What are Mike Ryan and Nolan Pratt doing on the team!? Also regardless of what anyone thinks of Mike Ryan, he is a very quick skater, however they have his speed as a 79, slower than Lydman and Tallinder. 2) Kotalik's slap shot power is second on our team? Rivet is first? I have seen Rivet play enough times to know he has a decent shot, but Kotalik has one of the hardest slappers in the league, let alone just the Sabres. And they rate Vanek's slap shot the same as Kotalik's? 3) Max - 75 defensive awareness? 80 passing? Are they rating how well he passes to the other team? 4) Vanek - 80 poise rating? Poise is supposed to be calmness under pressure and clutch ability. Vanek had 9 GWG last year. Should be enough to be better than 80. 5) Peters 88 checking. Really? He can't hit anybody because he can't catch anybody. 6) Miller 87 on breakaways? That is too high of a rating, especially if you count shootouts as breakaway attempts. 7) Connolly's 84 passing should be bumped up. When he's in the lineup, he threads the needle all the time, especially on the PP.
ROC Sabres Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 8)Jason Pominville 55 for passing. That's pretty high for the highest Assist getter on the team. :wallbash:
