stenbaro Posted May 23, 2008 Report Posted May 23, 2008 I don't disagree with you there. I only interpreted your constant posting of Campbell lighting up Umberger to mean you were a huge fan. I guess I misinterpreted. That's a different argument altogether, and one that I probably would not argue with you on as for the most part we have been on the same side of the debate. My point is when looking at players, it's a matter of perspective. We see Max everyday and SJ fans see Marleau everyday. I don't think Doug Wilson would be a complete idiot if he took back his first round pick and Max for Patrick Marleau. At the same time, I think Darcy might be taking a gamble with Marleau as his production last year and his previous year's playoff was subpar. End of the day, I still think it's probably an even trade that either GM might take. I see your point..They might be ready to give Thornton the C this yr and may want to move Marleau regardless..I would love to see Marleau in a SAbres uniform.. I like the way Campbell plays dont get me wrong, I am pissded they didnt sign him, I am a Sabres fan first and removing him from our lineup I feel made us weaker..If they had dealt him for a player of equal value I have no problem..They didnt....
carpandean Posted May 23, 2008 Report Posted May 23, 2008 If you read down further in my post you will see I misread his post answer..I Put up Minnnesotas numbers..LOL.. That explains a lot. Well, at least now we have a posted, accurate breakdown of where San Jose's money is set to go to next season. By the way: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/23962-C...atrick-Marleau- San Jose is also a team that will not spend to the cap. They are a budget team like Columbus. See, we're not the only ones!

carpandean Posted May 23, 2008 Report Posted May 23, 2008 If they had dealt him for a player of equal value I have no problem..They didnt.... Hard to say. (1) Bernier is in his first full season in the NHL (though, he played most of last year) and has a lot of potential, so time will tell how good he ends up being, (2) it was/is far more likely that the Sabres would be able to re-sign Bernier than the Sharks re-sign Campbell (young, unproven RFA vs. older, popular UFA), so the length of their deals wasn't exactly the same, and (3) they also upgraded a lower pick to another first rounder in a very strong draft. I will agree that in the short-term it made us weaker, especially before they brought up Sekera, but in the long-run, it may not have. Were our chances of making one round of the playoffs, much less multiple rounds, that much better this year with Campbell than without? We'll see what they do with the money that they didn't spend on him this Summer.

Its over..Time to move on...Hopefully Bernier and Sekera can step up this coming season..I like Webers style more than Sekera's. We need more big d man on the blue line and a rugged two way center...we need a solid 4 players added and a few weaker players moved on...
