Guest Sloth Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 Maybe you could steer the conversation toward a "running vs golf - is either a true sport?" discussion and debate. ;) LOL, I got on this computer for 2 minutes. They think I'm in the bathroom. I'm definitely using that argument!!!

Guest Sloth Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 Hey I'm here to help. I'll have a "broken hose" tonight! Thanks for the support! Whoops, I'll be back. Wife is calling me...Water...I need water....!
Corp000085 Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 OH MY GOD! Now, that's how you finish a game!
Bmwolf21 Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 Wow...that puck trickled through Osgood and rolled just wide with .6 seconds to go...unreal.
McJeff215 Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 Zetterberg? Would have rather seen it go to Osgood. They played good, but I can't help but feel like I'm watching a Patriots post-season win. This is their 11th cup. Take it back to Hockeytown, eh? Edit... Fleury's gotta been feeling down after that last Detroit goal.
Bmwolf21 Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 Anyone else's skin crawl whenever Bettman opens his mouth?
Corp000085 Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 Anyone else's skin crawl whenever Bettman opens his mouth? I'm not going to make any bettman jokes tonight. He's got a very noticeable tremor in both arms. I'd hate to speculate, but he's not lookin healthy these days.

I did not notice - as he was doing the presentation I was getting ready to take the dog and garbage out, and pretty much ignored Bettman. Maybe I'll roll back the DVR and see if I notice anything...

Maybe I'll roll back the DVR and see if I notice anything... I saw it, too. I could speculate with a few conditions that would cause that and most of them aren't good. I hate it when teams win the cup on the road. It would have been so much better if they had held the lead on Monday.

SabresFan526 Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 You know, even though it was only 6 games, this was a great series, and absolutely awesome hockey. If I'm Pittsburgh, I'm really depressed because it's unlikely this team gets back next year, but you never know. If I'm Marian Hossa, if winning is that important to me, I'd take the paycut to try and stay in Pittsburgh because this is a great situation to be in. I'm not sure you're going to find a better team to play for than Pittsburgh. Ryan Malone, I'm sure will sign an extension with Pittsburgh as well. Regardless, I'm convinced. Darcy needs to do whatever it takes to sign Orpik. He's exactly the defenseman the Sabres need. The Wings are a great team with excellent players who play exceptionally well two ways. I hope the Don Cherrys of the world finally shut their mouths about European players after seeing this Wings team win the Stanley Cup. I'm happy if only because it shuts up Don Cherry about European players being pansies and having no toughness. I'm hoping the Sabres and their European team takes note of this and sees that a team of quite a few European players can actually win the Stanley Cup if they play hard, play good defense, and play as a team.
Doohicksie Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 I really thought Zetterberg was the only choice. Good series. If you base it only on the finals, I can see you saying that. But if you look at how down-and-out Detroit was when Hasek was benched and Ozzie brought in, coupled with the fact that Ozzie is only the fourth goalie to record two shutouts in a finals series, I think Osgood was the logical choice. I was disappointed. But only a little.
Bmwolf21 Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 I was just waiting to see him get cold-cocked with an octopus. I'm still upset this didn't happen.

Maybe I'll roll back the DVR and see if I notice anything... How many years after your kid was born were you aloud to get a dog? My wife's sister, a vet, said it needs to be two 2 years! Man, that ticks me off. I, virtually have no say so in the matter. I need some support fellas'!

Pit will match any offer to keep him, unless he's a UFA.

Man, that ticks me off. I, virtually have no say so in the matter. I need some support fellas'! Maybe I'm just ignorant, but I've never heard that one. I've heard about the cats and toxoplasmosis but nothing about dogs and babies. We had our dog for three years before our son was born, and the dog has been great with the little guy.

I was disappointed. But only a little. Not to take anything away from Osgood, he played well, but his defense was choking the life out of teams in these playoffs. I bet in in most of the games he only faced about 4 even strength shots a period, and most were from the outside. Detroits team defense is really pretty amazing. I can't think of too many odd man rushes that got to net against Osgood.
bob_sauve28 Posted June 5, 2008 Author Report Posted June 5, 2008 I wonder if there were Red Wings fans actually hoping they didn't win the President's Cup because you know a team that wins that can never win the....

wonderbread Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 I have followed this thread for a while now with enjoyed most of the points. Heres what I am left with after this series. Zetterberg is amazing. Love Malones grit and heart. Orpik would be a great addition and would love to have him but at what cost? I'd say all in all mediocre series with some high points of excitement. The pens Shero hs a Saberian like hurdle in front of the ala Darcy Summer o Dumont, et al. Choices choices. almost forgot Bettman rings really high on my creepy-meter! Anyone else's?
wjag Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 Final Series Thoughts -- Orpik is a machine. -- The final Detroit goal where Fluery sits down and it goes into the net will be one of the most memorable SCF goals. Its significance was huge. -- Would Zetterberg been the goat if that final chance went in? He had the puck at center ice and fell down/tripped. Pitt should never have had that chance. -- Great end to a great series. -- That ending reminded me of the Ten-STL Superbowl when Ten came up one foot short. -- Osgood should have been MVP. I know a lot of his success was the Detroit D, but still he had to stop the shots he faced and he did, series after series. -- Is Malkin the twin brother of Thomas Vanish? -- Seems like Detroit made few mistakes, but when they did, Pitt capitalized on them. -- Was rooting for that second Pitt goal last night so the game would end frenetically.. It didn't disappoint. -- Doc Emerick calls a great game. He is fair, balanced and enthusiastic for both teams. NBC's coverage was much better this year. -- Crosby should not try to grow a beard. -- Watching that series, it was very obvious that men were playing boys. Grizzled vets versus up and coming youth -- Great, great series...

Grizzled vets versus up and coming youth -- Great, great series... Fixed and quoted for truth. I felt like NBC and VS both did a better job of actually calling the games instead of just blabbering over the play about how good Sidney Crosby is as they pan to shots of him on the bench, etc. I bet that all changes when we make the playoffs next year, it'll be the same old bs about some player on the other team and how great he is. I'm not optimistic. lol

And, he's from Buffalo, so he might want to play here because his brother is in the system, and his friends and family are here. Also, he fills a need the Sabres have. That's why I hope we go after Orpik. It'd be a coup, but I think Darcy could pull it off.
