BamBam Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 The Buffalo Sabres will actively try to shop Maxim Afinogenov and his $3.5 million salary for next season at the June entry draft. SPECTOR'S NOTE: Yes, Afinogenov is "enigmatic" but prior to last season had posted up strong numbers which could prove enticing to clubs seeking offensive depth (hello there, Columbus Blue Jackets). Max To The Jackets

Bmwolf21 Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 Kotalik, Afinagenov, and a swap of first rounders to get Luke Schenn is what Darcy might be aiming at. That seems like a lot to move up seven spots. You don't think there would be anything coming back to Buffalo in that deal?
shrader Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 The only way they're moving any of their picks in this draft is to bring back players in return. The draft is far too deep to mess around with moving up in the first round. Very good players will be available at both of our picks.
SabresFan526 Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 That seems like a lot to move up seven spots. You don't think there would be anything coming back to Buffalo in that deal? Agreed. I think you could do Max and swap of first rounders and that would be enough. If not, at the very worst case situation maybe add a second or third rounder. I think the proposed trade would be way too much. If you are doing Max, Kotalik, and Buffalo's pick for Columbus' pick, there should be a second rounder or a player coming back in return. That's what I think.
gregkash Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 Anyone can see that Max needs a change of scenery. He'll go to the highest bidder. I don't believe Draft picks are gonna cut it this time for Buffalo, they know they need players. We don't need to get younger.
wjag Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 A new glove driver and some spare tires for the zamboni?
MarkAF43 Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 I have to agree with the other posters, making a deal like that would be rough, although i am in favor of getting rid of both Kotalik and Max, DR needs to make sure he gets good value and something that can help the team now not down the road 4 or 5 years
X. Benedict Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 That seems like a lot to move up seven spots. You don't think there would be anything coming back to Buffalo in that deal? I think this kid might be worth it. Size, skating, right handed shot, toughness. He makes a tremendous amount of sense for Buffalo. And the salary dump could improve prospects on the UFA market.

If the move is made to dump salary in order to make a run at someone big (Gaborik?) then then I'm all for it - but if it's just to dump off our headaches on someone else and move up a few spots for a draft pick/prospect, then I'd have to think twice...

The Sabres have too many forwards. Right now they have enough for 5 forward lines. Minnesota is in a position were they may see Ralston and Demitra go try the market and they may really need some bodies.
Bigthuder1636 Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 What about moving max and al for Hainsey? I wouldnt mind seeing him on our blue line?

By the way, where can one find out more on the draft and the Sabres positions? I can't find anything on NHL.com. How many picks does BUF have this year? Thanks!
