tom webster Posted May 6, 2008 Author Report Posted May 6, 2008 They still have a ways to go in terms of stocking their own AHL team... Hunter Mancari(FA??) Zagrapan Kennedy(unsigned as of right now) Gerbe Kaleta(may be full-time with the Sabres) MacArthur(may be full-time with the Sabres) Gogulla Schutz(unsigned as of right now) Gragnani Butler Funk Weber Card Dennis Enroth(unsigned as of right now) Best case scenario...The Sabres will need to sign 5 or 6 players to fill out the roster. Worst case scenario(from an AHL perspective)...Kaleta, Weber & MacArthur are all with the Sabres at the start of next year and the Sabres will need to sign 8 or 9 players to fill out the AHL roster. You forgot the two college kids they signed at the end of the year.
Bmwolf21 Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 Comments in the BN's Coverage of the Gerbe Signing: LINK "As of yesterday, we really weren't sure which way it was going to go," said Jordan Neumann, Gerbe's agent. "We really had a flurry in the late afternoon." The 20-year-old Gerbe told The News last week he was "50-50" on whether to turn pro or finish school. But he held his own during his first stint with NHL-level talent, and that may have convinced him to make the jump. He trained with the United States' world championship team, and he had a goal and an assist during an exhibition against Sweden. "Toward the end of the year [with Boston College] and during his time with the World Championship team he really felt he was ready to go," Neumann added.

So management reads Bucky's column on Sunday, is asked to comment on a story Monday that Vogl is about to publish, and there is a flurry of activity Monday afternoon. Things that make me go hmmm.

Then the News should be held accountable for letting Drury, Briere, and Campbell leave.
shrader Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 In any case, it would be pretty sweet if the kid is another Flutie type. An arrogant prick who can't cut it at the professional level?
nucci Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 An arrogant prick who can't cut it at the professional level?
tom webster Posted May 6, 2008 Author Report Posted May 6, 2008 An arrogant prick who can't cut it at the professional level? Something we agree on..
BetweenThePipes00 Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 An arrogant prick who can't cut it at the professional level? Shrader is my new favorite poster.
SwampD Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 An arrogant prick who can't cut it at the professional level? Flutie's last professional season record: 10-5. I'd take that from Gerbe
Taro T Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 Flutie's last professional season record: 10-5. I'd take that from Gerbe No wonder the Sabres desperately needed to sign this guy. Apparently he plays forward, D, and goal. ;)

LabattBlue Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 Possibly even Weber, too. Is that a different Weber than the one you quoted from my previous post? :D
LabattBlue Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 You forgot the two college kids they signed at the end of the year. If they are AHL quality players fine. The team also will need 2 or 3 AHL vets who were severely lacking from this years Amerks disaster.

The team also will need 2 or 3 AHL vets who were severely lacking from this years Amerks disaster. I think they will have no choice but to agree to sign a couple of AHL veterans to finalize whatever deal they are working on. Its now a standard part of the deal in AHL affiliation agreements.
nfreeman Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 An arrogant prick who can't cut it at the professional level? Witty, and the 1st part may be entirely correct (although I doubt anyone here really knows), but help me remember which QBs have gotten the Bills into the playoffs since Flutie left? Oh, that's right... Flutie's last professional season record: 10-5. I'd take that from Gerbe 100% correct.
shrader Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 Let's play a game. See how many different listed heights you can find for Gerbe in write ups of his signing. I already see 2 on the sabrespace front page.

Oh, that's right...100% correct. I thought we were supposed to WIN playoff games like Jim Kelly used to do... Any team can pretty much make the NHL playoffs once in a while in the format we now have! <_<
SabresFan526 Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 I have not read this thread and am not going to read this thread. All I know is that I'm extremely excited by the news today. Do I think he is the savior? No, not at all. But the kid has done it all at the college level, and given his talent, I'm excited. Also given how well smaller players have succeeded with Buffalo in the recent past, I'm excited. And, to all who were complaining, including Bucky Gleason, whom I tend to think isn't as bad as everyone else thinks, Gerbe signed for the rookie maximum. Let's hope that this signing will make Max expendable at this year's draft so we can stockpile some more picks or get a legitimate second line centerman. If we can get Tim Kennedy on board, we are in great shape for the future of this franchise.
frisky Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 So is it time to start an Enroth signing watch thread? They have 4 weeks left to sign this kid. And, one for Tim Kennedy too. Now if they could start signing some RFA's that would be cool too.

If we can get Tim Kennedy on board, we are in great shape for the future of this franchise. This is exactly the point. His agent said the deal was the result of "a flurry of activity" yesterday afternoon and he signed for the maximum. Obvious conclusion, he won and the Sabres' blinked, for whatever reason.
