ExiledInIllinois Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 You are missing my whole point..I have said it a million times before...For my last time..These deals could have and should have been done way earlier and would have been done for less money...Throw those last numbers out the window..If they hadnt approached it with the head in sand style they use they wouldnt be in this mess..Thats all I am trying to say..I could care less if this was Tallinder were speaking about instead of Cambell, Campbell is another illustration of a mistake, granted they got something for him better than zip but I would have rather had him signed at a reasonable cost than the bs he is gonna get and they could have..I dont particulary like the way campbell plays he is just another example of how screwed up this organization is...Hope that clears it up ... What point do you miss about blowing smoke up the fans arse from both sides... Maybe they just all wanted to part and led us all on! Drury was matched and still left... Want BFLO to pay more...  The point is... We don't know the truth, we never will... But, I would take it to the bank that what we think is the farthest from the truth.
X. Benedict Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 As in Shanny says he won't be on a team with Jagr? That's how I understood it. But it is Stan Fishler, he always has something to say.
vasabresfan Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 On foxsports.com this morning, there is an article on where the Sharks and Habs go from here. One of the things that they said was a priority for the Canadiens was re-signing Mark Streit. The article states "Streit is eligible for UFA status this summer, had a breakthrough season in 2007-08 with 62 points in 81 games split between defense and forward and will be in line for a significant raise from the $600K he earned this season, possibly over $3 million per season." I remembered Streit from watching various Habs games and thinking that he was a pretty solid d-man (not flashy, but solid)-- so I looked him up. This past regular season, he played 81 games, 13 goals, 49 assists (62 pts) and -6. Let's compare that to the Soup. 83 games, 8 goals, 54 assists (62 pts) and +8. Hmmmmm... I understand that they are not necessarily the same style of player, but why is one worth $3m and somehow the other is worth $6m. Career-wise, I suppose that Campbell has done a little more and is two years younger, but does anyone really believe that he is going to elevate his game to some elite level? I guess that's the only logical conclusion-- that there is some feeling out there that we haven't come close to seeing the best that Campbell has to offer. I simply don't agree, but that's the only reason I can think of that makes him worth double what a player like Streit can expect to make. I have always liked Campbell and wouldn't mind seeing him back in the blue-and-gold, but how can anyone pay him that kind of money when he just is not an elite player? I do think that there have been a fair share of blunders by management, but this is not one of them. Moving him along for any value whatsoever was the right choice. I don't know that Bernier (or the draft pick for that matter) will turn into anything, but I do know that this should give them a little more flexibility to keep players like Pominville at HSBC for some time to come.

Streit played almost entirely as a fourth line winger and power play specialists. He only played D when there was an injury or they wanted to shake things up.
stenbaro Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 Making it as far as we did is not good enough... Winning the Cup is! For a team like BFLO, they will either have to win it all or suck royally... Mediocrity is the problem if you can't get over the hump. See: PENS They (BFLO) can't handle free agency like a bigger market club... You will see the results in years to come, trust me! It MAY get worse, true... But, then it will get radically better... And that is the push that will possibly propel this team into a Cup VICTORY... No other way will work for a club and market like BFLO and being organizationally SOUND. For BFLO there will be ebb and flow, they will have to properly ride the ebb and USE IT to propel them in a positve and goal orientated direction... Just riding the flow, they are doomed to get themselves in organization killing types of situations. See what I am saying?... It is all in the model... You probably don't! :wallbash: :nana: They needed to add not subtract..But if you want to blow up a team when youre a few solid players away you got your wish..Now we all get to deal with watching this time of year again...Wasnt it fun

One of the most entertaining years... Sure it didn't work out, but come on!
stenbaro Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 Yes it was fun! One of the most entertaining years... Sure it didn't work out, but come on! No this team last year was irritating to say the least. What was fun about it? They were only a few players away from being able to compete and have a legitamit shot barring injuries from winning the cup..Now we are a ways away from being there..They are still my favorite hockey team but I am not gonna spend a dime supporting them till they fix their internal problems and show me they will sign their key players..I dont see any of them outside of Pominville as being key so the clock is ticking..I dont think he will be as easy to sign as people think..He isnt gonna be cheap he put up Heatley numbers and if his agent is smart he will draw a briere type contract..Do you think the Sabres will pony that up??? Unlikely but ya never know he is younger..Time will tell..Irregardlesss of Pominville signing or not they still are a few pegs down from the elite teams unlike two years ago....

This team was far from entertaining this year. At certain points in the year they were almost unwatchable. They couln't pass, shoot, score, play D, or even hit. But last year they were competing. When you are one of four teams left two years in a row...you're competing. Other than who we know left, it's the same guys, so I think we are now only a few players away from competing again.
