Campbell called out by Versus analysts...

Campbell got dissed hard by the Versus analysts(not sure which one) during the last Sharks game. He was talking about Patrick Marleau and how his coach, Ron Wilson had called him out, saying "Maybe if we would stop jumping out of the way of shots, we'd have better luck preventing goals against us.", referring to the previous game where Marleau leaped over a shot from the point.

The analyst went out to say that was uncalled for by Wilson because Marleau had played as hard as anyone in the Sharks lineup since he got hammered by Phaneuf in the Calgary series. He then went out to say that if he wants to call anyone out it should be Brian Campbell because he hasn't done anything except play poorly for the entire playoffs so far, and that maybe he could light a fire under him, because he certainly needs it.

Thought it was funny that Campbell was supposed to put them over the top and he has turned out to be one of, if no the worst playoff performer on their team so far...

Yeah, I pointed this out in the Playoff GDT last night. They called him out between the second and the third, too. He better start stepping up or we will be re-signing him for about $4 million per year this summer.

I actually didn't think he played that bad. I think from the last month many got the idea that he was a force in the offensive zone, a force really isn't the word, he's nifty....He is still nifty, but expectations have risen to the point where they expect him to be a force.

Although there were some sloppy exchanges, it is not as if he is a much different player from January.

He's great at carrying the puck up the ice and into the zone, great shot from the point, great skater and knows when to pinch.

However... HE IS A TOTALLY SOFT DEFENSEMAN IN HIS OWN ZONE! Screw paying him $4 mil / year man.

If the Briere thread is going to hit 30 pages. Imagine how many a Campbell thread would have gotten.

Totally disagree on the shot. I would say that a great point shot should be hard, low, and accurate.

Brian's is usually wide and high and certainly not booming.

If he moves into the slot, he can hit the net and score, but I can't think of too many Campbell shots even hitting net from point.

Marleau and Tallinder must have learned how to block shots from the same place.

Anyway, what the versus analysts should really be calling out Brian Engblom for that dead squirrel/mullet hybrid haircut he's had for the last 20 years. That particular cut was never cool---not now, not ever.

At least when he was a Sabre he kept his helmet on, and it was a hard season to watch anyway.

Yep. You can cut and paste that statement after EVERY one of the Sabres blueliners. None of them can get the shot through and if they do, it's only because its high or wide. One of my top ten wishes was for the Sabres to get a blueliner who can get the puck through AND on net.

(Mostly posted because it was one of a small number of games that made me smile last year.)

About the only one you could make a case for is Spacek - everyone else is really hit or miss from the point. That's also a big reason why our PP struggles for long stretches and why people are clamoring for a Liles/PP QB to be brought in. We need someone - anyone - who can get a shot through from the point and give our guys like Vanek and Goose a chance at tips and rebounds.

BTW, if there is one guy whose shot particularly bugs me, it's Tallinder. That guy has the slowest windup and release I've ever seen - he looks like the Sabres' version of Byron Leftwich - and his shots seem to have little mustard on them at all. I'm sure the multiple broken arms have something to do with that, but come on - I think we can clock his shot with a sundial...

He didn't have it this year. I think it is shoulder issues, he just didn't have the torque.

I really hope it was an injury or the arm issues/not being able to rehab properly, because Tallinder's shot was definitely a problem this year.

His salary demands might have something to do with that, though.

When you expect to be paid Pronger money, it's not completely unrealistic that people expect you to be just as good.

Campbell better sign with a team in the East. He looks even more skiddish in the corners playing out in the West where it's more physical. I think teams in the West have figured out Campbell doesn't like being hit and I think it's affecting his game. I think if signed with a team in the West the teams in that conference would eat him alive over the course of a season.

I say we pay him $115,000/YR. Thats good money in the Buffalo area.About the same that Jim Schoenfeld made.

Remember, remember...

Me thinks me needs to watch a little Vendetta again. If only such ideology could make a difference without being a Guy Fawkes-esque terrorist. With the way the world is going, UPS will be shipping out a lot of Fawkes masks...

Only to a team that wants to watch the playoffs again..Thats my only shot in this thread..Enjoy beatin him up again....Now this has nothing to do with your post Kristian just my everyday rant..LOL.Miller will be next...Then who????Maybe by then Nathan Gerbe will have been around for a few years(if we sign him) and we can blast away at him too..Wait we can start that now..Who does he think he is wanting the rookie max..What has he done? No way should the Sabres sign the midget for that much..lol..

I know this is all about calling out ex-Sabres' but the man this whole series has to fall on is Joe Thornton. Another forgettable playoff performance from a supposed "elite" player.

2 goals, 6 assists and he looks afraid to even handle the puck.

The Sharks are looking and playing like a team built for the regular season.

Hard to match up with and play against for any one game in the regular season.

You have to admire the Stars composure in this series. If the Sharks lose this series playing like this, I wouldn't be surprised to see thier team blown up this summer.

It looks like the love affair is wearing off with SJ fans...

If SJ goes out in the 2nd round(which looks inevitable right now) and Campbell moves on in FA(which I think will happen), the return of Bernier and a 1st round pick will seem like a bargain.

It was a great deal for the Sabres no matter what Campbell did. They received a young winger with size and a 1st rounder for a decent, not great, offensive defenseman. I doubt these playoffs will have any bearing on his contract. Some GM will throw a ton of money at him just to try to appease their fans.

By the way, how is all that money the Rangers tossed at Drury and Gomez working out?
