Team Strike Force Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 Anyone paying attetion to the NY Mets monstrosity? I don't understand why they fired Randolph the way that they did. Did they honestly believe that no one would find out until tomorrow? Maybe they wanted to make a huge fool out of him. It just lends more credence to my belief that they are a bunch of donkeys over there. Their supposed best player doesn't know basic strategy; bullpen members call out starters in the media, then blow leads; and now this. It all bodes well for the Phils. Big win last night for them vs. the Red Sox. World Series preview?
Bmwolf21 Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 The Mets could not have fugged that up more if they tried. Read Buster Olney's blog entry on the whole mess - while it's still a free preview.
Team Strike Force Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 Wow, even if half of that stuff's true it's a disaster over there. There's no way that players should find out about what's being said a personel meetings. There's no way someone should have to walk into a situation where his bosses are waiting for a mistake so they can fire him. The thing that gets me is that the owner, Fred Wilpon, says (not in the blog) that it was strictly Omar Minaya's decision. That's a bunch of horse manure. How can an owner not have a say in a decision as important as replacing a manager midseason? I'm both appalled and delighted at what they did. I can't stand the Mets and I like that they have been exposed as the fools that they are, but no one should be treated the way that Randolph was treated.
Team Strike Force Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 I know that there are Indians fans on the board. Unfortunately, the Tribe are buried in the standings at the moment, but how about Sabathia's blast earlier today? He looked like a real hitter on that one. As far as the NL goes, I've been disappointed by the Phillies, now on a four game losing streak. They can't get their offense going and their starting pitching is taking shots in early innings. Maybe this could be the Cubs year?

Maybe this could be the Cubs year? CC's jack was a straight-up bomb. He called it before the game, said he would go deep today. Hope they can keep him at a reasonable salary but I'm not getting my hopes up, so I hope that we can deal him off at the deadline and get some good players in return. My biggest fear is we hang around the race long enough that they decide to keep him and hope to make a run, then lost him in the offseason as a FA and just get a couple draft picks in return. Maybe LA will want him now that they've seen what he can do in Chavez Ravine.
Bmwolf21 Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 For the handful of baseball fans on this board -- it looks like Sabathia is on his way to Milwaukee, and the deal is all but done: It looks like the next time C.C. Sabathia takes the mound he'll be donning a Milwaukee Brewers jersey. The Brewers and the Cleveland Indians agreed in principle to a deal for the reigning AL Cy Young on Sunday, sources told ESPN's Buster Olney. The deal is contingent on paperwork being finished and the exchange of medical records. The trade was first reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. In a text message to ESPN.com's Amy K. Nelson, Sabathia all but confirmed the deal. "I'm good, excited," Sabathia wrote. "It's weird leaving these guys." Cleveland would get Double-A outfielder Matt LaPorta, who is hitting .288 with 20 homers and 66 RBIs in 84 games for Huntsville, and others. The other players do not include top prospects Alcides Escobar or Mat Gamel, according to the Journal Sentinel. LINK A source familiar with the Brewers' trade for Cleveland lefty C.C. Sabathia just told me that the other players going to the Indians with Matt LaPorta are minor-league pitchers Zach Jackson and Rob Bryson and a fourth player, perhaps minor-league third baseman Taylor Green. The fourth player currently is listed as "to be named later" but it is believed the Indians want to look more at Green, with the idea of moving him to second base. LINK 2
Bmwolf21 Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 Anyone watching the HR Derby? Hamilton put on an absolute clinic in the first round, jacking 28 bombs out of the yard and most were in the upper 400-foot/low 500-foot category. Unreal. EDIT: Forgot to add - nice to see Cliff Lee getting some love as the AL All-Star starter. 12-2, 2.31 in 18 starts this season.
fiftyone Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 Shame Hamilton ran outta gas in the third round, woulda been cool to see him win, seems like a good guy come a long way. ---------------- Lee's facing a tough customer in Ben Sheets though. Should be a good game.

Seems as though you may have spoken too soon. 1/2 game lead at the break with the 2nd place team having won 9 in a row is a far cry from winning the division, let alone a prime world series candidate. Let's Go Mets.

fiftyone Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 Really a shame that Hamilton hit 35 total HR's and lost to Morneau's 22. Yeah, that too. Baseball went a little ways towards fixing that, though, by combining the totals of the first two rounds to find the finalists instead of doing it round by round like they used to.

Let's Go Mets. Before Mets fans think the division is theirs, lest we forget the HORRIBLE teams they beat up on this week to get 9 straight.

Let's Go Mets. Yeah, at the time, the Phils were poised to run away with the division at 13 games over .500. Then inter-league play happened. I'll take the Phillies lineup over the Mets any day, and if they can get some help in their rotation (Brett Myers comes back ok and/or a trade) they'll be in good shape for a pennant race. I'd like to see Greg Maddux come in. He and Jamie Moyer could tear it up. Adam Eaton needs to be dealt with, Eskimo style. The Mets took advantage of an easy part of their schedule to get back into it. Good win against Lincecum and 3 out of 4 in Philly was big (but they missed facing Cole Hamels). The Phillies made it to the break nicely, too, having won 4 out of the last 5. I've got my tickets for the showdown at Shea next week, though.
Team Strike Force Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 Really a shame that Hamilton hit 35 total HR's and lost to Morneau's 22. Alex Rodriguez is a tool for not participating in the last HR derby at Yankee Stadium.
Bmwolf21 Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 Alex Rodriguez is a tool. for not participating in the last HR derby at Yankee Stadium. Edited for accuracy. Seriously - every time I want to start liking this guy, thinking he got his stuff together, he goes and does some stupid crap (admittedly stuff that is usually blown out of proportion and wouldn't be a big deal for most players.) Bottom line - there should have been a Yankee in the HR Derby in Yankee Stadium's final AS Game.
Team Strike Force Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 Yeah, Rodriguez hasn't done much since he achieved "lightning rod" status with that insane contract to keep himself out of the limelight.

With the injuries to the Mets outfield, yes, but otherwise, I may beg to differ. On the Mets side, i'd say the rotation is set, and if the 'pen can hold the fort down like it has recently, we'll be in good shape. The only move I see them possibly making would be to bring in an outfielder to replace Alou, and to hope Church comes back. I've heard rumors of Holiday coming to Shea for Pelfrey and something, but if they make that deal, Omar better be out.
JujuFish Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 7 wins in a row and the Indians might actually finish at or above .500. Who knows?

This Mets-Phillies race is going to come down to the wire again, as neither team seems to want to keep first place. Both of their starting rotations are suspect at this point. The Mets have the easier schedule, but the Philly offense is starting to perk up again. I don't see either team advancing in the playoffs due to their pitching, but you never know once you get in.
Bmwolf21 Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 7 wins in a row and the Indians might actually finish at or above .500. Who knows? Cliff Lee just keeps rolling. 18-2, 2.43, 1.08 WHIP. Could the Tribe have back-to-back Cy Young winners?
Bmwolf21 Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 I can't wait to find out if Cliff Lee is for real or not- his test is coming soon! Cliff Lee just keeps rolling. 18-2, 2.43, 1.08 WHIP. Could the Tribe have back-to-back Cy Young winners? Lee gets no. 20 with a dominating win over the ChiSox. CG, 9 IP, 0 R, 5 H, 0 BB, 4 SO. Now 20-2 with an AL-best 2.32 ERA. Tribe's first 20-game winner since 1975 (Gaylord Perry) and 1st MLB'er to win 20 games in his first 27 starts since Shilling did it in 2002(?). Fantastic year for Cliff, but he'll have to keep rolling if he wants the Cy Young, since Dice-K, Halladay and even K-Rod are going to garner serious attention for their work.
Two or less Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 The Cubbies are starting to sink. Apparently Zambrano's arm is dead. Fukudome is having a massive 2nd half breakdown. Not good for the Cubbies.
inkman Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 Fukudome With ticket prices ranging from $500-$2500 for behind home plate seats, had the Yankees built a dome, this would have been a good name.

Even if K-Rod hits 58 saves, or the Brewers make the playoffs behind CC, those numbers are absolutely filthy behind an underachieving Tribe team. It's his award to win if he keeps it up.
