That Aud Smell Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 I hope that DR is smart enough not to pull off a trade for him, especially since we have Kaleta. I'd sooner root for the Cryers than see that piece of filth in a Sabres uniform. The speculation that Avery could somehow be destined for Buffalo is a complete flight of fancy. I know part of being on SS is playing fantasy GM, but the idea of Avery to Buffalo goes beyond fantasy and into a realm I like to call "never ever ever ever. ... ever." Avery's a UFA after this season, and you can be sure as eggs is eggs that Hollywood Sean will be open to signing with ~6 or fewer marke--err, teams. It's more than safe to say that sleepy Buffalo won't be among them. I suspect that Avery was nodding his head in agreement when he heard Sugar Ray's remarks about our fair city during the 2007 ECF.
X. Benedict Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 I suspect that Avery was nodding his head in agreement when he heard Sugar Ray's remarks about our fair city during the 2007 ECF. A morality tale for sure: Last year starting keeper in the Cup finals. This year he is in the yard with the sign that says: Used Parts for Cheap. I wonder if Chicago looks Avery over. But I can't see him happy in a small TV market.
That Aud Smell Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 I wonder if Chicago looks Avery over. But I can't see him happy in a small TV market. Those are two distinct thoughts, yeah? (I.e., Just confirming that Chicago's a big (big) market ... even if beautiful people like Avery might perceive it as fly-over country.) Avery's a frustrating case: He's still pretty young and brings a lot to the table -- it's just all the other bullsh!t that you have to endure that makes him a risky/questionable investment.
apuszczalowski Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 On TSN's pre-game show last night they discussed what Avery did, and they said that Drury skated over and just told him that the ref was yelling towards him. I don't see what the big deal is about it. Avery just did what he does best, and got under the other teams skin within the rules. And I don't see what all the hatred is for Avery. Of course the opposing team and their fans are going to hate him, he is a pest, and a good one at that. He stays within the rules the majority of the time and gets other teams players frustrated and draws penalties. He has some talent too. personally I would love someone like him on the the Sabres.
BuffalOhio Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 How come nobody mentions the blatant spear by Brodeur in all this?
Buffalo Wings Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 How come nobody mentions the blatant spear by Brodeur in all this? Probably because Avery deserved it.
inkman Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 How come nobody mentions the blatant spear by Brodeur in all this? The only problem I have with it is that he didn't leave a piece of Avery on the ice.
stenbaro Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 The only problem I have with it is that he didn't leave a piece of Avery on the ice. Brodeur is no saint either..He is one of the so called dirtier goalies in the league...Too bad Scott Stevens wasnt around for that escapade the other night..I wonder how that wouldve ended..LOL...

cdexchange Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 How come nobody mentions the blatant spear by Brodeur in all this? He should have introduced his skate to Avery's junk, now that would have been funny.

I don't hate Avery. I like his game. He's a grown up Kaleta with a shot. The taunting was bizarre... How come he's the first to think of it? Heck, if I thought it would work, I send Peters out to just sit down in front of the goalie.. That would have to be distracting.

I think what threw the ref off was that it was the goalie. If you raised a stick to the eyes of any skater that's an instant 2.

Number 1, it's only a reasonable strategy when you have a 5 on 3. Number 2, it's probably more effective if you just screen the goalie the old fashioned way AND face the puck so you can actually make a play on it. I'd think a less distracting screen paired with the ability to play the puck is more effective than completely taking yourself out of the play to try and distract the goalie.
outlaw16511 Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 Avery is a joke. If the instigator rule wasn't in effect, he wouldn't pull half the antics he does. Hell he might not even be in the league anymore.

They transferred him to a minimum security hospital upstate. To my knowledge, he lived out the rest of his days drinking his food through a straw."
DR HOLLIDAY Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 How come nobody mentions the blatant spear by Brodeur in all this? Because Brodeur didn't get a very good shot in, Come on Marty, Billy Smith would have lopped avery's head right off.

Did anyone see goal Avery should have scored last night? He got bumped going to the net and was looking around for a penalty. The puck comes right to him, but not being ready he fires it right into Brodeur when half the net was empty.

I am glad the announcers took his unit out of their mouth to call him an idiot for not being ready. His antics took him out of the play and cost him a goal. I wish it would have cost them the game.
ofiba Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 I wish we had him. Ugh. I don't even know if I could cheer for the Sabres if that loser was on the team. Pat Kaleta plays the same role that Avery does, except he does it with class. Kaleta lays people out with CLEAN checks and then skates over to them and waits for them to hit him to draw the penalty. He just plays his game and waits for the other team to get mad enough to hit him dirty. Avery on the other hand... Anyone notice how Avery said he isn't talking to the media at all? Hmmmm I wonder why? Maybe it's cause he ran his mouth last year and made a fool out of himself when he was a basic non factor in the series where he Sabres beat them. Didn't he say the Rangers would win in 5 or 6?

He'd be safer saying it now since they have the guy that kept us from going down 3-2 heading back to MSG. Drury doesn't score that goal and the Rangers may very well have won in 6. Maybe Avery ought to start watching that guy to figure out what it means to be a real hockey player.
SabresFanInRochester Posted April 18, 2008 Author Report Posted April 18, 2008 +1 Unless Elisha Cuthbert gets back with him and attends every home game in the nude; +2.
carpandean Posted April 18, 2008 Report Posted April 18, 2008 Unless Elisha Cuthbert gets back with him and attends every home game in the nude; +2. I'd buy season tickets and start an Elisha Cuthbert Pictures thread to share with everyone else.
