Guest Sloth Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 I was looking at the free agents that will up for auction for the 08/09 season and one particular person caught my eye. Do you guys think the Sabres have a chance at Jeff Carter? He'd be a great 2nd line center. Jeff is durable and the guy can win faceoffs and put the puckin puck in the net. If they can't sign him, I hope they go after Daymond Langkow. He'd also make a graet # 2 center. The Sabres are in desperate need of a number 2. Connolly is made of glass. I'd even pull for David Legwand. Side note: Managemen'ts fock ups may actually help the team. Sign Miller and Pomminstein ASAP! They have the money! After that, bring in a couple of free agents. Money is available and they have a youthful core to build around! The Sabres can be a legitimate long term franchise success. Ottawa must be thinking oh #%^$#! right now. They have so much money locked into 3 players. They're going to lose key players in the offseason. Vermette should be available. Would you guys want him on the team? I do, if it's possible. Now write your opinions people!
X. Benedict Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 If I'm not mistaken Langkow is off the market - new 4 year deal w/ no trade.

Wishful thinking...I think he will be untouchable for us. But someone could and should pull an offer sheet on him (perhaps Toronto? Vancouver?)

outlaw16511 Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 I'd absolutely love if we could get Mark Streit but I highly doubt MTL is going to let him go. It'd be great to have a guy that can play both D and forward if need be. I'd also look into getting Danny Markov back over here from Russia. I wanted him the past 2 off-seasons prior.

Sherman Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 Carter is the one guy I'd love to see in Buffalo. If I'm not mistaken, he's a RFA though.. That makes his price too steep... There are two ways he could be a Sabre. 1) We make a trade with the Flyers for his rights before Free Agency. This would allow us to negotiate with him before he hits the market. 2) He goes to arbitration and the Flyers don't agree. This would make him a FA just like it happened to JP Dumont a few years ago.
Bmwolf21 Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 Wow.. way to give credit where credit is due. Maybe they meant for this to happen so they could retain these guys? That would be a brilliant plan unparalleled by the likes of bad Hollywood movies. We'll screw up re-signing the two guys we built this team around, overpay for a streaky winger who some nights looks like a franchise winger and others might as well be in the press box, ignore upgrading the defense, admit we screwed up, miss the playoffs - and then we'll be able to afford some of the guys who are coming up to be re-signed in the future.
