It's funny that Sabres fans are still bemoaning the fact that Drury left. I wonder if the Rangers fans are bemoaning his signing. He cost a lot of money and in the end he made no difference for them at all. They finished this season just like they finished last season.

Its funny, on one thread your implying that they are indeed bemoaning, on this thread you are wondering. Like I said there, you lost your "the Flyer fans hate Briere", so now you are try this. Most Ranger fans know he will be part of the solution over there bringing along their strong core of youth and aren't worrying if they paid an extra million for the privilege. With the Cap going up to $56 million, and the NHL cap is the Ranger's cap, there is no issue there.

Who said that Flyer Fan still doesn't hate Briere? After a minus 2 in a game in which he was a complete non-factor? Unless you count the turn-rover that led to the goal of the playoffs.

Funny, I expected you to respond to the post that listed ECF production compared to his first round production. I understand why you would want to avoid that topic.

I am so sick of refuting your ridiculous statistical analysis. The whole Palfy thing should have put you in your place. you came back whimpering with the only stat you can hold true to regarding a game three years ago.

If he would have scored that goal that Malkin scored after his turnover you would have posted the video and ripped him for being so thoroughly lazy in getting back not to mention that your boy Richards was completely clueless that he was back there.

By the way, who is the NHL leading playoff scorer over the last three years?? What other players have played in the conference finals the last three years?

Also, glad you are buying discount stuff at Kohls, wouldn't want you to be short when paying off that bet next year.

Before you go barking up the wrong tree I should tell you that Drury was one of my favorite Sabres of all-time and I openly campaigned for the Sabres to keep him over Briere last year. I was disgusted when he left and furious when I heard the stories that the Sabres had supposedly reached a deal with his camp and then screwed it up somehow.

Yes, his intangibles, his clutch scoring and his ability to play both ends of the ice are all very impressive and he is the veteran leader you build your roster around, but before hitting UFA status I had him pegged in the $5M - $6.25 range. $7.1M is a little too much for Drury IMO.

I agree and held the same position you do up to the point where the salary is involved..He was the leader, captain and played like a hall of fame leader from day one in Buffalo, I dont care what he does in NY its a different circumstance. WIth that said he should have been signed at any cost..You cant replace him, he does it all..Kills Penalties, plays the powerplay, takes key faceoffs, doesnt take crap in the lockeroom, leads both on the ice and with his mouth..He is a very large reason they made those ECF and turned the attitude around in Buffalo..And he scored goals when they counted..Is theyre a price tag for that???I dont think so...Now if you stick him on the third line thats a different story....But the guy is a player...IMO..With that said name all the players in the NHL that does that and tell me there salaries..I meen no disrespect just check it out..I think you will be surprised..IMO

I mean no disrespect either, but you're preaching to the choir - so if you want someone to "look it up" feel free to do it yourself. Because I've already said (time and time again) that Drury is the type of player you build around, no matter how many times the peanut gallery has chirped about "Mr. Intangibles being so quiet tonight " or "wow, they lost - where was Captain Clutch tonight?"

But I disagree with "sign him at any cost." He's over 30 and there is a cap in effect. Who's to say that he doesn't hurt a knee or shoulder and is never the same player but still hits them at $7M+ for the next 3-4 years?

The cap hit is exactly why we were all screaming for the Sabres management to ditch their idiotic "no negotiating during the season" stance so they would have a chance at signing him and/or Danny at discounted rates before they hit the FA market. That might have given them a chance to figure out where other guys fit in WRT the payroll structure, and as a bonus it might have saved us from another season of the Max and Timmy "show."

The odds are much higher that a catastrophic injury would impact the play of a 30+year-old-player than a 24-year-old.

So you were replying to carp but chose my post to post your reply? ? Because silly me, I took your response under one of my posts to indicate that you were responding to what I posted.

Stop being so sensitive - no one's "grabbing an attitude with you." Yes, I said not to bark up the wrong tree, because I've seen too many posters get accused of having agendas or being "anti-player X" just because they dare to opine that a player is not worth paying too much money to. There also seems to be a few posters who want to split Sabres fans into Drury-Briere camps, maybe forming some sort of ongoing Bills QB controversy. My comment was made, partly in jest, to let you know where I stood WRT Drury and his value to the team. Sorry if you took it the wrong way.

How many as he won?

Leading scorer? Where doe she stand in points per game or per round? Half of his total points come in the first round. The tougher the competition the less of a factor he becomes. Stats don't lie. They are more reliable than the "sources within the organization". Three straight years in the ECF. It would be nice if actually did something in a ECF. Minus -9 in 13 games? Zero shots in Game 7? I'm sure the 9 points he had against the Flyers in round one more than makes up for that in your book.

Paying off the bet? I starting to think we should have another bet the B-Rod doesn't finish the 2008-09 season as a Flyer. I'll get back to you on that one.

That's right, no matter how you twist it, he is in first place and the reason the other so called stars aren't is that they came up short for their team and lost earlier. Your continous reliance on the +/- number is amusing but not surprising given that you have nothing else to stand on.

He was one of my favorite players but I always thought he was going to be better.

Name another player in the NHL that does what Drury does in crunch time.....an be an alloround player and leader..Just curious, it has nothing to do with any previous posts just thought it up...

If it isn't a loaded question, I'll play..... Sakic, Iginla, Pronger, Alfredson (yes Alfredson), Gaborik,

Zubov, Gomez, Datsyuk, Zeterburg

I would also throw Crosby and Malkin in there as well. Those two are exceptional in the defensive zone and consistently take key defensive draws in addition to their spectacular offensive ability that we all know about. I am so impressed with Pittsburgh, especially their three centers and how excellent they are defensively in Crosby, Malkin, and Staal. In my opinion, Staal will become a legitimate Selke finalist within the next 3-4 years. And, given how fantastic Crosby and Malkin are offensively, it's amazing to see how good they are defensively as well. So, yes, I would include them in the category of when you're comparing to Drury's intangibles.

Zubov and Pronger I probably would not compare to Drury given that they are defenseman, but you are spot on with Sakic, Alfredson, Gaborik, Gomez, Datsyuk, and Zetterberg. Of the people on the list, I'd say Drury probably is not as high scoring as any of these folks, but is on par and slightly better than a lot of them defensively. So, I have a tough time putting him in the same salary level as these guys, myself. Having said that, he should have never left Buffalo, and it should never have been option so long as the Sabres sent him a contract and he signed that contract in October of 2006. It's that simple, he never should have left Buffalo.

It wasnt a loaded question at all....He is a very hard player to duplicate..He doesnt reach the elite or next to elite status in putting up offensive points he is above averagein that category, he does reach the elite status in intangibles and leadership, he is near elite in killing penalties above average in faceoffs, elite status as a captain and elite satus scoring key goals...He is a hard player to say the least to put a cap figure on or compare him to a cap figure.....

Who would you trade Drury for on that list??? If it was the Sabres I would look at Pronger,Datsyuk,Iginla with Iginla as the main one..I think Iginla is the one player on the list that is an allaround better player than Drury out of those right now....IMO of course..

I thought he would step up and take Peca's place but it never happened...

I have the greatest weapon of all. B-Rod himself. His lack of versatility will show again in this series. With Pittsburgh killing penalties at a 90% rate that will render B-Rod completely useless as shown in Game 1.

And so far he has made you look foolish, but maybe you will finally be right. The irony of it all is that if he fails, I'll win about $150 in my hockey pool.

You sound awfully confident, especially coming from the same crowd that has constantly reminded us how Briere was overrated, and then magically his team has advanced to the ECF. I look forward to your same statements when the Stanley Cup Finals begin, just after the Penguins are eliminated.

You can thank RJ Umberger for that. While Briere fades away, again, Umberger has stepped up his game.

Congrats on the $150.

As far as looking foolish? I don't see how? Since the end of the first round B-Rod has 3 points and is a minus three. Foolish? The word you were looking for is accurate.
