That Quinn keeps screwing the team up, and won't let Darcy work his magic, or that the rash of injuries kept them from geling, and that they are still young with a very bright future, and they had to let player 'X' go because player 'Y' will need to be extended and the Sabres need to pinch pennies

Sounds about 100% accurate!

This post is unbelievably quiet today. No one wants to talk about one of the Buffalo Anti-Christ's today?

Wait till we see what he does Friday night in the ECF opener. Then this place will get rolling again.

Tell me you dont miss that!!!!!!!!

Screw the damn payroll bring me wins like that

That Drury GTG still gives me chills... :worthy:

On a side note - look at the guys on the ice for that tying goal and their role this year: Drury (gone) Briere (gone) Zubrus (gone) Connolly (played 1/2 of the year) Teppo (played what, one game) Vanek (struggled for most of the year under his big-ass contract.)

Sad.

I think it was a thread at one point. I'll be honest, I'm fairly young (27) and I've really only been watching Sabres hockey in earnest over the last 20 years or so. In that time, I still think the Drury goal is one of the greatest goals I've seen since I've been watching the Sabres. No doubt there's May Day, Curtis Brown series clincher, Derek Plante series clincher, Jason Pominville series clincher, Tim Connolly game tying goal in Game 1 against Ottawa (one of the most exciting and highest scoring games I've seen) and a bunch of other great goals, but as BMWolf said, that goals still gives me chills every time I watch it. I'm with you, to hell with the payroll if we could have kept Drury.

OK. I've diceided. It's the Drury goal. I love the way RJ just stops talking so you can soak it all in. No other play by play guy has that much confidence that he doesn't have to talk. He's just good.

EDIT: oops, thought I was on the other thread.

Hell yeah! Payroll be damned!! Lock up Max now!!

Actually, one interesting thought occured to me with the lineup there. Those were the guys that you would put in when you need to come from behind with 17 seconds left (I'd put in Pomminstein and maybe Roy this year), but how many of those guys would have been on the ice to protect a one-goal lead with 17 seconds left and a defensive-zone faceoff? Chris and Teppo would be my guess. Others would have been Hecht, Roy, Pominville and, given which defensemen had high minutes on the PK, Lydamn and Campbell.

(Before anyone calls me heartless, that goal gives me chills too and, if we had won game 2 against Ottawa, I would have said the same thing about Briere's goal with 6 seconds left.)

I wonder if we go on to win that game and series if we would feel the same about that goal as we do Drury's. At the end of last year, we pretty much knew we weren't going to be able to keep both Drury and Briere. Most of us (being forced to make a choice) wanted to keep Drury. I just find it interesting that the two guys who left the we cared the least about(Briere and Biron) are doing the most damage in these playoffs.

I hope this doesnt come off as an oxy-moron; but the 06-07 run/roster was the best case scenario to take it all.

To be fair, we all loved Marty Biron, but he was making starting goalie money as a backup and they needed the cap space. Plus, nobody here thinks Briere is a bad player, the argument is mostly about the contract amount. Plus, Chris has lots of contributions that don't show in the stats (e.g., PK) and, as I talked about above, was a guy that the Rangers had on the ice when the game was on the line, whether they were ahead or behind.

I disagree. The 2005-06 team was much closer to winning the cup. With one less injury on the blue-line, they take Carolina and would have matched up very strongly against Edmonton. They struggled against Ottawa last year and would not have matched up as strongly against Anaheim.

Even as that Drury goal happened with :17 to go; he was still a competitor as a Sabre but his heart was in NYR. Which would give him more leverage.

That's is such a load of crap and shows how little you know about the man.

Totally agree. I was just pointing out another little quirk in all the goings-on this year. Also last year, when we were down late, Lindy would short the bench down to just the Drury and Briere lines. The guys getting shorted were the guy we were left with. I hope they come on even more next year to become those guys we want on at the end of games. I think Roy is that guy now.
