deluca67 Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 I promised to stay away from this thread, but I have to respond to this. It has been pointed out manyt times before that Detroit is the creme of the crop among hockey franchises and thus an unfair comparison. Obviously with Zetterbery and Datsyuk, they have no need for a player like Danny and thus wouldn't pay him big bucks. I have no doubt, however, that if Detroit didn't have one of those two and decided that they needed offense, that Danny would be high on their list. Its not like Detroit hasn't had to employ one dimensional players before like Brett Hull and molded them more to their liking.Couple of other points; 1) Detroit and Pittsburgh may be the only teams that would have no interest in Briere as a top 3 forward. 2) Detroit employs 14 members in its scouting department including 3 full time european scouts and a director of european scouting. In addition, Ken Holland, their GM, makes regular visits to Europe to personally scout players. You just can compare any other team to their standard. One dimensional players don't fit the Red Wing model. Zet and Dats are both over +100 for their careers. Briere does not belong in any conversation involving those players or Hull.
Mike Oxhurtz Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 It shows the Sabres can produce NHL players. It's just a shame that we can't keep those players :wallbash:
Mike Oxhurtz Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 We're on 26, we're getting closer to 30!!! Go Dannyzilla!!!!!!
deluca67 Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 It's just a shame that we can't keep those players :wallbash: Maybe if they expanded the rosters to 50 they could?

They hold the puck like no one's business, play sound defense and can score with the best of them. 07-08 - 252 GF (3rd) - 179 GA (1st) - +73 differential 06-07 - 252 GF (10th) - 191 GA (2nd) - +61 differential 05-06 - 301 GF (2nd) - 206 GA (3rd) - +95 differential
Mike Oxhurtz Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 Maybe if they expanded the rosters to 50 they could? plus no salary cap

I was stating a hypothetical case and Detroit has shown a penchant to do whatever necessary to win, and if they thought offense and power play was a problem, Briere would be on their radar same way he was on Montrteal's radar in spite of his defensive shortcomings.
rbochan Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 How to add five pages to this thread:Hypothetically, do you think Detroit would put Danny on their team?... Not for at least another 6-8 years. (from the Wings/Avs photoshop war)

If Briere was American the Habs wouldn't want anything to do with him. I don't see Briere as a fit in anyway in Detroit. Zigmund Palffy was a couple of notches above Briere and I couldn't ever have seen him as a Red Wing.

Have you looked at the Habs roster lately? The Flying Frenchmen are a thing of the glorious past. Will you give Danny his due if I win the bet next year? Finally, aren't you supposed to be working?

Because I can't speak German I think I will just say Briere suffers from LackenLuca.

It's much more than that. Ziggy - 1.04 points per game and a plus 83 Danzuki - .79 points per game and a minus 27. A couple of notches was a vast understatement.
Mike Oxhurtz Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 No, Evil Danny is the worst player in the NHL, his plus/minus is a -10000000000000. Nobody would want a high scoring 4ft 2in troll on their team (sarcasm!!!!!). Enough already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sabres are not in the playoffs and Danny is still in, so get over it and deal with it!!!!!! :censored:

Ziggy was more of a sniper if remember correctly. Of course I didn't see too many Kings games but he mostly played the wing.

Briere will end up with similiar career stats and is at least the player Palfy was and not quite as soft. Why didn't you mention his great playoff stats? Palfy was the typical player who rang up huge stats playing on also rans and did zilch the few times he led his treams to the playoffs. But he was a nice kisser.

Thats a stretch..MAybe an equal but I would take Briere over Ziggy..I dont know why you hate on Briere so much..The guy does produce in the playoffs...I was glad to see him go I didnt like him much but he does put up the points in the playoffs

Nice..We can say anyone who keeps these dang threads going suffers from tooomuchaaaluka..Just effin around..We all have different opinions and we all pretty much know where everyone stands..I cant participate in trying my case anymore,,I have found the Finkle Side of thinking..On that note here is a nice clip to enjoy your evening
carpandean Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 I think we are forgetting that Danny is just an over-priced enforcer:

But he was a nice kisser. 24 gp 9g 10 a and a plus 4. Not too bad. He played for some really bad Islander and Kings teams. That shouldn't diminish what he was able to accomplish in a relatively short NHL career. Briere would have to really kick up his game from his standard 60-70 points per season to reach Zigmund Palffy. Not only did Ziggy create offensively he also had 19 short handed goals to go with his nice plus rating. That is the type of player the Sabres need and have with Roy, Vanek and Pominville.
Mike Oxhurtz Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 Not for at least another 6-8 years. (from the Wings/Avs photoshop war) I guess that's how Hasek gets his legs stretched for the games.

So what you're saying is Palffy has more career playoff points than Max in less than half the games (Max 49 GP 10-13-23 +5.) Sorry for the hijack, carry on.
