ExiledInIllinois Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Since when does a "C" imply an automatic contract. Or a long lasting mutuality on behalf of each club.It never has. Men of honor? Holy smokes. Remember #18 in 1981. I think he had a letter stitched to his breast. Aside: this thread has been like a long root canal. must.....not......click.....on .....again...... I think it does! :nana: :nana: That is what makes the sport special, even given the quirky/flukey/and other things nature! Anyway... That other Danny still comes back for Sabres Alumi games... Think the new Danny ever will? Of course number 11 took over the spot he should have had prior to 1981!
stenbaro Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 :worthy: :worthy: To sum it up... Men with C's on their chest don't do what those two did... I'd felt better if they'd decline wearing the thing in the first place, they didn't though. Men of honor don't do that. :( Thats funny..Without going back and looking it up name all the past Sabre Captains to retire as a Sabre while still being Captain..
ExiledInIllinois Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Thats funny..Without going back and looking it up name all the past Sabre Captains to retire as a Sabre while still being Captain.. Not really gonna happen in the same year... You need to pass the torch in the final year #11... The torch was passed to Ruff (now coach of course) the year #11 retired. #16... Year before too... Serious injury issues though!
apuszczalowski Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 :worthy: :worthy: To sum it up... Men with C's on their chest don't do what those two did... I'd felt better if they'd decline wearing the thing in the first place, they didn't though. Men of honor don't do that. :( And Teams don't do what they did, to players that they give the 'C' to. If you want to be angry and use that reasoning with one of them, blame CD for that. The Sabres negotiated solely with him at the end of last season and even offered to match any deal he received in FA, and he bolted at the first chance to the Rangers, thats not being a Man of Honor. By the time the Sabres actually started negotiating with him, FA was starting, and he had said he was testing the market because he felt that Buffalo didn't want him back. there wasn't much else he could do besides beg the team to give him a contract offer, and accept whatever they offer just because. Honor and respect should go both ways, and you aren't showing much respect throwing a "take it or leave it offer" that was the same as what he just played with, after having one of the best years of your career. If the Sabres didn't want him, fine, but don't blame him for leaving, or say he isn't honorable, he wasn't given much options.
carpandean Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 As much as I am not a huge Danny fan and would give a lot to have Chris back on this team, I have to agree that if either of the two bolted on the team last year, it was Chris. If Danny did anything selfish, it was before the 2006-07 season, but from that point on, they showed no intention of seriously negotiating with him. Chris, on the other hand, was shown a lot of interest, including the aforementioned match offer. The Sabres could have been a little more proactive about negotiating with him during the season (although, I agree that it was a precarious position, since it would have been clear after signing him that they had no intention of offering Danny serious money, which may have caused problems during the season), but he didn't even sign without a home-town discount.

Bmwolf21 Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 This thread has 21 pages to it, let's see if we can go to 30. If Danny scores a meaningful goal tonight ( or is on the ice for a bad goal against) that will instantly add 2-3 pages...
millbank Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 You bet. Thus far of the five Philadelphia playoff wins, Danny has scored the winning goal in four of them. It something for a guy who was released by his team picked up by the Sabres arose out of the ashes and made something of himself. millbank Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 right you are. But he was put on waivers in Phoenix . Danny put on waivers Sabres traded C. Gratton for him..Same difference though

You can't win a Stanley Cup with a bad +/-!!!! <_< I'll help get this thread to 30 for sure if they make it to the Finals... and yet those who still hold onto their position with an iron grip will tell us all how they are still right! A Cup win and/or Conn Smythe? We're talking 40+. Last year they were 22-48-12. :death:
SabreNod Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 This thread.. Danny Danny Danny! Sniff...they miss you Danny! I'd like to take this opportunity to repeat that Roy is a better player.
carpandean Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 Last year they were 22-48-12. :death: :wallbash: Last year (most or all of it), they played for Nashville (Timonen, Hartnell, Upshall), Edmonton (Smith, Lupul), Tampa Bay (Prospal), Atlanta (Coburn), New Jersey (Dowd), Dallas/LA (Modry) and, of course, Buffalo (Biron, Briere).

Just move on and enjoy him with relentless zeal.

Say what you will, but I'm going to speak my mind regardless.

Say what you will, but I'm going to speak my mind regardless. Nice attempt at misdirection. I have never once even come CLOSE to comparing him in any way to Miro. Miro was and always will be a d*ck. Briere is a good guy, and I've always thought that. But Briere is not worth what he's getting paid, period. And Roy is a better player anyway. Instead of prattling endlessly about Briere, why not just give in and move on to Flyers Fandom? Get yourself a Black&Orange #48 and call it a day. You'll be happier.

You did try and make him out to be like Miro Satan with his play even though you didn't mention him BY NAME- don't deny it!!! Briere AND Roy is better than just Roy, obviously. I'm not going to quit because you pull some intimidation tactics- please don't flatter yourself. Maybe you'd be much better off as a Maple Leafs fan with the way you talk about people- you proport to be an expert as if you were one- it fits you. (No offense millbank)

Show me where I made him out to "be like Miro Satan with his play" Please, show me. Intimidation tactics? You mean saying "Danny Danny Danny"? Is that what you call intimidation tactics? If so, LOL. If not, show me what you consider intimidation tactics. This should be good fun. Show me where I flatter myself, too. And "proport" to be an expert? You mean purport? I never did that, either. See, I couldn't have, because I'm not an expert and I know it. Attention world: I'm not an expert. See? There goes that, Goat. If you're going to cite delusionary references, at least provide sources (links or quotes) so I can show you how bad your interpretation skills are. In closing, in a whiny voice, Danny Danny Danny!
Bmwolf21 Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 Wow, what a shock - this thread devolved into a pissing match. Awesome.

Since you are now taking my posts and examining my spelling, I'll hit you on your reading comprehension: You did try and make him out to be like Miro Satan with his play even though you didn't mention him BY NAME There you go... now read carefully. I have had to endure all of your anti-Briere posts, as have others, and they have not been very nice, to put it mildly- all anyone has to do is review your posts and it is quite clear they are meant to intimidate. I don't have to cite anything, for it is all here in a public forum. I'm not going to waste any more of my time trying to prove the obvious.
GoatheadInCT Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 Hang on one second: OK, continue. Obviously the offseason is highly entertaining. Audiences are cool!
BuffalOhio Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 Strangely, I find myself rooting for the Flyers against the Habs. It's not because of Briere, but because of Biron. I'm glad to see that he's beginning to prove himself to the NHL after all these years. Good for him. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go stab myself with a butcher knife for actually feeling this way.....

This does not prevent me from being bitter about Briere leaving though.
