Buffalo Fan Posted April 11, 2008 Report Posted April 11, 2008 I've advocated for not taking thinks out of context when it comes to some of these comments, but the one about "some of the great values we have" seems pretty straight forward and stupid. Why would you call some of your players great values in public. THis is begging for nasty contract negotiations, isn't it?

Why would you call some of your players great values in public. THis is begging for nasty contract negotiations, isn't it? Why is that so many think that players and agents are stupid? Pominville and agent know he is grossly underpaid. If a Briere can get $50 million a more complete player like Pominville knows he will be able to cash in. It's no surprise and will have zero influence on any contract negotiations. Why do so many of you try so hard?

inkman Posted April 11, 2008 Report Posted April 11, 2008 Why do so many of you try so hard? Boredom, I'm guessing.

Was he intimating that some of the players are values like "he's under market value", or did he actually mean to use the word "assets", as every one on the business side of things in sports does?

Looking at the Roy contract and how Roy stepped up this season Quinn may have been referring to him. The Sabres got a great contract that favors them greatly. If the Sabres can get Pominville under a similar contract it would be a huge victory for the front office.

Quinn neantioned both Roy and Pominville. However, this is one point I agree with you (DeLuca) on, Quinn's comments have little to no effect on negotiations.

Why do so many of you try so hard? I certainly wasn't implying that players or their agents are stupid...it just seems to me that if you have made a public statement, it would be hard to argue the opposite in negotiations. Of course, everyone knows they are underpaid, I just thought that the negotiations would determine how underpaid. Not knowing what these negotiations are like, it was a thought that came to me. Didn't mean to bore you Deluca. Send me a list of acceptable posting topics, and I'll try to follow.
inkman Posted April 11, 2008 Report Posted April 11, 2008 Not knowing what these negotiations are like, it was a thought that came to me. From what I've learned, it mostly comes down to comparable players and comparable salaries.

True that, these agents all use slotting as baseline whether it's football, basketball or hockey,.... whats somebody with comparable postion and/or statistics making there is the market baseline they try and establish...

Unless it's Chris Drury...it's all about the intangibles baby. Chris Drury is so good, he doesn't slap his shots, he bitch slaps them.
Bmwolf21 Posted April 11, 2008 Report Posted April 11, 2008 Both sides use slotting but problems happen when they disagree over who the comparable players are... Plus it always helps management when some D-bag goes and overpays a similar player (was it Chicago overpaying Havlat that started the slide down crap hill?)

"Vanek passes back to Roy top of the face circle and He Bitch slapped it by him........ can you say Roy Boy is a B' slappin asassin"
Guest Sloth Posted April 11, 2008 Report Posted April 11, 2008 As of now, management has finally realized they focked up. I'm glad they have admitted it. But, what they focked up may turn out to be a HUGE benefit to the Sabres. They have the cash to sign Pomminstein and Miller to long term deals. I'm just hoping their definition of ASAP is havng Miller and Pommville locked up by the first quarter of July. Worry about the rest after that is done.

Didn't Martin LaPoint get a monster deal (at the time) from Boston years ago? That one always pissed me off...4th liner getting first line $$
Kristian Posted April 12, 2008 Report Posted April 12, 2008 Didn't Martin LaPoint get a monster deal (at the time) from Boston years ago? That one always pissed me off...4th liner getting first line $$ Lapointe got a 5 mill. a year deal from Boston, back in 2002 or something, I believe. Completely insane, but then again so was Bobby Holik making 8 mill (or was it 9?) mill. with the Rangers, and Roenick making 8 mill. with the Cryers. Nuts.... Just nuts.
