BamBam Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 I heard on the NHL Network last night that they will hold a 30 minute special on Monday to determine the order of selection for the draft. Anyone know how this will work, and what range Buffalo is expected to pick in with its own pick?

Good luck ..... at most Buffalo can move up 4 spaces from its finish position http://www.nhlscap.com/draft.htm#lottery Mirtle has a decent explanation as well: http://mirtle.blogspot.com/2008/03/how-lot...raft-works.html
BamBam Posted April 6, 2008 Author Report Posted April 6, 2008 Thanks X. So lasts nights win moved us more to the 12-14 pick range I guess. Good article though. So the best we could do is 10, and the worst 14.

I guess I will start alittle R&D on potentials. Good links! ty

I guess I will start alittle R&D on potentials. Good links! ty I think there was a problem with teams I believe in the 80's who were out of the playoffs sitting the majority of their starters. Pittsburgh may have been on of them. Could be how they got Mario. Without researching it, I'm pretty sure that is why they finally adopted this system.

The start of it definitely began with Pittsburgh tanking for Mario. It may not have started right after, but the talk started there.

I hate the NBA but I think I remember the Rockets doing something similar in the NBA (to get Ralph Sampson me thinks).

Pittsburgh may have been on of them. Could be how they got Mario. Without researching it, I'm pretty sure that is why they finally adopted this system. The Pens did a good job of "selling" their tank job by following through with a 2nd overall selection in 1985 and top-five selections in 1986-87-88. While they may have tanked to get Mario, they were dreadful. The Sens in 1992-93 may have been the last straw to implement a draft lottery system. Players allegedly asked ownership if they should hold back near the end of the season and the owner made some ill-advised comments to the media. (All this to draft Daigle). Very interesting but tough reading for a Sunday morning, my head hurts after trying to absorb all that.... ;) So is this the gist Buffalo my select as high as 14 but no lower than 9(4 from current 13th slot) ?
BamBam Posted April 6, 2008 Author Report Posted April 6, 2008 After looking at the standings it looks more like we'll be picking around 13. Who do you think the team is looking at? jimiVbaby Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Man... Stamkos is going play his career in Tampa? I feel bad for the dude.
stenbaro Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 This might be a little out there but what is your opinion on this theory? Last year Darcy made a play for Patrick Kane and from what I have read I heard that it was a pretty good offer for the number one pick..Do you think that the plan is for the Sabres to try and get that one player to build around through the draft and if so do you think that he will go after Stamkos like he did with Chicago for Kane, or do you think they made their play for Kane due to the fact he is from BUffalo, if they made it because Kane is from BUffalo it would suggest to my thinking that they did it to try and please the fans and sell tickets which is kinda cool anyways..Thoughts?
BamBam Posted April 6, 2008 Author Report Posted April 6, 2008 I'd love for them to be able to trade up that high, but I've been looking at some players, and just posted this in another thread, but the 4th ranked player on the board is Kyle Beach. 6'1 center that has both playmaking and scoring ability. Plus, he has a nasty streak to him as well. I looked at youtube, and he has a ton of videos on there. Check them out.
tom webster Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Man... Stamkos is going play his career in Tampa? I feel bad for the dude. Crosby, Malkin, Whiney, Fleury Ovechkin, Semin, Green and Huet Stamkos, Lecavlier, Boyle and Smith Plekanec, Kostitsyn, Markov and Price Its going to be a pretty interesting conference.

Stamkos is a stud and whoever gets the pickisn't trading it. There are a couple of other players, however, in the top five they may try and move up for. Mostly defensemen, but supposed can't miss prospects.

Would you trade Miller for the number 1 pick? I would, I think Tampa would too
Chief Enabler Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Colby Robak Player Profile (defensemen) One word, smooth. Great skating, great vision, and working the PP QB role well. Some have compared him as a Scott Neidermayer type although the two will never be confused. He has decent size but he's afraid to use it, needs to be more aggressive and use the body, that's his big downside, he never will, if you are looking for your physical guy he's not it, still not putting up large numbers, but the potential is definitely there. Needs to work on intensity and physicality, but the offensive instincts are there. Tyler Cuma Player Profile (defensemen) He is a great skater with awsome agility. Great offensive instincts from the back end, has power play QB written all over him. He can get the job done in his own end and on the PK but in no means is he a defensive expert. He is easy to knock off the puck due to his petite stature. He needs to bulk up in order to take the leap from good defenceman to great defenceman. No thanks to either of them. Joe Colborne 6'4' center (going to be freshmen at Denver) podcast, pretty good too! Seems like a keeper.
tom webster Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Would you trade Miller for the number 1 pick?I would, I think Tampa would too I don't think they would. New ownership isn't interested in huge payroll which is one of the reasons they traded Richards.

Bmwolf21 Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 I don't think they would. New ownership isn't interested in huge payroll which is one of the reasons they traded Richards. I think they still want to see what they've got with Mike Smith and Karri Ramo before throwing away a high pick in another goalie trade.
