carpandean Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Ok, after a dissapointing season and with a long time before we have signings/trades to talk about, I couldn't think of anything better to do than to revive the old anti-slug talk. ;) Mostly kidding, but if the FO were looking for a time to do it, next year would be it. Make the necessary signings/trades and come back with a new look to fire up the team and the fans. Plus, I'm sure that slug sales have dropped off from their high last year, so a new jersey would bring a fresh surge of revenue for TG. For the fun of it, here's something similar to our own SS logo: Flame on slug-haters and anti-slug-haters!
thesportsbuff Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Haha, that's actually pretty nice looking. A change to that logo would be welcomed by pretty much everybody, but needless to say something like that would not happen.
Bmwolf21 Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Anytime is a good time to get rid of the Abominable Snot Smear...

I beleive there is a moratorium on change this year because of the new uniform design I don't mind the "slug." However, I really do like this design. I agree that if they ever do it, it will be revenue generated, but will be spun like iut is being done for the fans
bob_sauve28 Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 When I see highlights of them wearing that goats-head uniform I tell myself how nice the slug looks. I like the "new" unis
LabattBlue Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 If the slug is going to be replaced by an "updated classic" logo, it won't be for at least 3 or 4 more years.
inkman Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 I thought the new uniforms didn't support circular logos... <_<
carpandean Posted April 6, 2008 Author Report Posted April 6, 2008 I thought the new uniforms didn't support circular logos... <_< Yeah, it's funny how the Bruins, Islanders, Oilers, Wild, Devils and Lightning didn't get that memo ...
darksabre Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Yeah, it's funny how the Bruins, Islanders, Oilers, Wild, Devils and Lightning didn't get that memo ... Maybe they have bad fax machines too! :D
LabattBlue Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 I thought the new uniforms didn't support circular logos... <_< "Quinn Spin" at its best!
bottlecap Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 I'd be happy in a retro Dallas Stars-type uniform: http://cdn.nhl.com/stars/images/upload/200...sweater250b.jpg I'm just not happy with the Sabres amateurish uniform efforts over the years. The Buffalos and the cartoons just don't work for me. They're all terrible and I'd rather see no logo and a number on the front than these horrible corporate mishmash "designs." A classic look is best for our city, not a trendy one.

Apparently, I'm the only one who liked the black/white combo of the "goat head" uniforms from '96 to '06.
SDS Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 "Quinn Spin" at its best! I have no idea what the truth is, but to be fair - we were the 1st in redesigning a logo for the jerseys and RBK was not done with the uniform design yet. there was talk that all the shirts would be tucked in, etc... It could very well be he was just relaying what RBK told him at the time, but RBK backed away from that design and went with something else.
X. Benedict Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 Yeah, it's funny how the Bruins, Islanders, Oilers, Wild, Devils and Lightning didn't get that memo ... Those teams went straight from Uni 2.0 to Uni 2.1. 2.1 supports circular logos and in the case of the Islanders - Chevrons.

I liked it too, although I think I am the only one in North America who isn't screaming for them to go back to the original logo.

True - that could have been what was told to him at the time, and the NHL probably prevented them from throwing Rbk and the league under the bus in the media, since the league and Rbk were already getting hammered by the fans and media. I cling to the hope that after realizing the regulations/requirements for the new uniforms seemed to change, Quinn/Goli made some sort of deal to switch logos as soon as possible (although I am sure they'll do that anyway, grabbing an infusion of cash from new merchandise sales.)

If so, then maybe the smart play by the Almighty Quinn would have been to stick with the old unis for another year or so instead of going for the instant money grab. ;)

I also believe as Blue says, that a major motivation for releasing new jerseys when they did was the obvious money grab from being the only new jersey that year. (If memory serves, there may have been one other team that changed?)

Goodfella25 Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 I like that logo that you created there. I am 99% sure we are stuck with the slug for the next 5-10 years, but hey, remember Calgary had that "horse with snot coming out of his nose" logo that they adopted as their jersey and people became fed up with it. And then what happened? They just updated their old logo with their current black "C". I think that's a nice looking jersey. So hey, maybe it will work out that we turn the slug into a 3rd jersey and use some kind of updated vintage logo/jersey like we should have done all along.

carpandean Posted April 21, 2008 Author Report Posted April 21, 2008 Is it still the off season? Yup. Version 2 (somewhat of a tribute the the Wild's home jersey, of which I am big fan ... maybe its only one):

Yup. Version 2 (somewhat of a tribute the the Wild's home jersey, of which I am big fan ... maybe its only one): I am NOT a big fan of 'Sabres' across the logo- hence the point of the crossed sabres. Leave the 1970!

With the particular shape of the '05-'06 third jersey logo, taking off the "Sabres" leaves a big blank spot above. It looks better with both or neither. Maybe "EST." (as in established) above?

We had TWO blanks spots from 1970, remember? :P I really think the 1970 by itself doesn't make it look too crowded- space is sometimes not a negative :)
