will Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 What does that have to do with my statement. He is being paid 10 mil ans sucked down the homestretch. I could not care less that he had no choice with the contract, blah, blah, blah. nobody held a gun to his head and said "sign here". being displeased with a player is fine. but when you attach his paycheck to your statements as you initially did, especially in vanek's case, you're being ridiculous. we all know the circumstances that led to him getting paid by the bucket-load...so please, get over it. and to call vanek a is also a good way of making yourself look silly. the kid takes a beating in front of the net on every shift, and yes, he does go into the corners with a measure of success. believe it or not. you and inky can be whiny cry-babies about tomas all you want, but for a $7mil average salary, i'm happy with his 35 goal average.
mercury Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Oh boy, here we go...."He's just like Satan" Yeah, that comment is garbage. We should be better than that.
LabattBlue Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 and to call vanek a is also a good way of making yourself look silly. he kid takes a beating in front of the net on every shift, and yes, he does go into the corners with a measure of success. believe it or not. If you watch Sabre games and want to tell me that Vanek battles in the corners and along the boards, you are living a lie. As far as taking a beating in front of the net, it is not like the old days, when you would get hacked, checked and punched if you went to the net. Nowadays, you can hardly touch an opposing player without getting a penalty. That being said, 36 goals looks a hell of a lot better versus where he was at around the 1st of the year. PS So tell me again why calling Vanek a makes me look silly?
shrader Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 I never thought I'd see Boston fans cheer an injury and then boo as the player skates off. Man that was disgusting. ...almost as disgusting as Vanek's 2nd goal.
inkman Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Oh boy, here we go...."He's just like Satan" I was never under the impression that Miro was a top 10 player in the league but it seems as if many people here are ready to put Mr. Vanish in that category. I don't like his on ice demeanor. I don't like his off ice demeanor. I don't like his interaction with his teammates. Lindy gave him the 6th most ice time this year among forwards. If you subtract PP time, he's probably closer to 9th or 10th in ice time. What does that tell you he thinks of him?
inkman Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Yeah, that comment is garbage. We should be better than that. He's not like Miro, he's a much bigger cancer.
inkman Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 you and inky can be whiny cry-babies about tomas all you want, but for a $7mil average salary, i'm happy with his 35 goal average. I've been drinking...
inkman Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 That was a great game to end the season. I was going to be pissed no matter the outcome. If they won, which they did, it leaves me wondering why they couldn't play like this when it mattered. Oh thats right, they have no sack. If they lost I would have been pissed and felt like they were quitters. It was a lose, lose situation.
inkman Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Someone needs a hug. More like a punch in the face.

One other note...You tell me not to compare a players stats to his salary level(yeah...nobody ever does that <_< ), but then you do exactly that at the end of your post.
Claude Balls Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Jeesh, guess I shouldn't have gone to the Amerks game tonight. Looks like I could've gotten more bang for my buck right here on SS. Oh well, it's not like I paid for the tickets anyways. But here, it sounds like there needs to be a group hug. That'll learn me from not being around for the last Sabres game of the season.

What does that tell you he thinks of him? So we're going to take away PP time even though its a big part of the game? Are we taking PP time away from everyone else on the roster too?
inkman Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 So we're going to take away PP time even though its a big part of the game? Are we taking PP time away from everyone else on the roster too? I knew this post was coming. My point was that he's very low on the 5-on-5 totem pole for ice time.
Claude Balls Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 I knew this post was coming. My point was that he's very low on the 5-on-5 totem pole for ice time. Fixed it. You know what's funny (besides the way this team is run). I got home from the game tonight and came on Sabrespace to see "inkman" as last poster on many a thread. So I says to myself, self? looks like inkman is hitting the sauce pretty good tonight. Then I read that you have been hitting it since 1 today. Go figure.

Just to clarify inky's point - (I didn't include the totals numbers, since they were for the whole year and huge numbers; and the names in parenthesis are the players, in order, above TV in that category.) From NHL.com - click on a column to sort. Vanek's rank among Sabres' forwards: Total TOI - 5th (Pominville, Roy, Hecht, Gaustad) Avg. Why not, everyone takes it away from Briere. They miss the 37 powerplay points he has, but brag how he's a -20.
Guest Sloth Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 I'm just jumping in on all of this, but Vanek has been playing well since the all-star break. Guys, he finished w/ 36 goals when it looked like he'd finish w/ 20 at one point. Vanek scored 6 less goals when compared to last year. 6 goals! I can't remember if it was Lindy, Rayzor, or whoever mentioned it, but he said where would the Sabres have been this year w/ out his 36 goals. If Vanek continues to play like he did during the 2nd 1/2 of the season, he'll be fine for next year...and so will the Sabres.
Done Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 I've been drinking since 1 so I'll try to choose my words carefully. If you are going to call me a whiney cry-baby, you can go #%^$#! yourself. I call SabreSpace Rumble!!! Everyone happy with management and the team vs. everyone unhappy with management and the team. See you at the Old Aud at 1 AM!
Claude Balls Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 I guess you missed the 10 page circlejerk here when Alfreddson went out with a head injury. In all fairness, that thread had nothing to do with anyone cheering Alfredsson getting injured. That thread was totally directed towards the response we all heard from Ottawa fans, Ottawa coaches, Ottawa players and Ottawa media about how the hit by Neil on Drury, was legal and it was Drury's fault he got injured. Well gee, now Ottawa is complaining that Bell's hit on Alfie, which was almost identical to Neil's, but cleaner, was illegal. It was purely a "karma" thread.

But/and he had four more hat tricks this year than last year. Basically, that means he had 24 goals in 78 games (0.31 goals/game); not bad, but not what I'm sure he wanted. Those hat tricks were big (well, except tonight's), but as he said, he needs to be more consistent. I am expecting much more from him next year and hope that he is able to deliver. While he is far from "a cancer", he has a lot to work on this summer.

If the same people that were posting were at a game where a Sabre did that to him....they would be cheering their heads off. I understand the karma thing, but the actual guy that was hurt had nothing to do with the situation.
Claude Balls Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 If the same people that were posting were at a game where a Sabre did that to him....they would be cheering their heads off. I for one would never cheer a player being injured no matter who it is, and from what I know of many posters here, most of them wouldn't either. I would laugh my ass off if I were anywhere near Bryan Murray when it happened, but cheer because Alfredsson was hurt, no way. I understand the karma thing, but the actual guy that was hurt had nothing to do with the situation. Like I said, none of it was directed at Alfredsson personally. We all know he had nothing to do with the Drury/Neil situation, but he just so happens to play for the team who most people here, had the problem with. It's not that difficult to understand.
X. Benedict Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 I guess you missed the 10 page circlejerk here when Alfreddson went out with a head injury. Officially a knee injury with a sore neck. But we weren't the only one's comparing it to Niel's hit on Drury.... I guess The Hockey New is circle jerking too http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/1492...-was-clean.html
