And had just a handful of points down the stretch when his team needed him most.

The whole second half of the season was the "stretch" for this team, and he had the third most goals in the league during that time. It ain't his fault they didn't make the playoffs

The real one is in Edinburgh Castle. ( some contend when it was taken from Scots, another was substituted)

That's what the people at Edinburgh Castle want you to think. They really have the fake. The real one is getting Guiness spilled on it every night. Nighty-night Jacob.

March & April - 16 GP, 6G, 3A, -9, with three goals coming in one game.

His "post-ASB" stats were inflated by his monster February. When push came to shove, down the stretch run he came up short.

Hate him if you want, still wasn't his fault they didn't make it.

Who is this TBO guy? We should have started him more this year. :D

I think he might have had 3 shutouts this season. Gotta check to the numbers. One might have been pre season.

EDIT: It was only 2. but still, 2 out of 9. How bad is he, really?

Wow, another natural hat trick and another TBO shutout.

Hmmmm, maybe he should have played a few more games in between.

Sucks to be out, but on the bright side, the players can work on their golf swing.

Let us hope Peters is gone next year.

Wow, what an unselfish play by Derek Roy. That to me showed class, character, and leadership. And guess what, with that assist, Derek Roy finishes the season first in points for the Buffalo Sabres and Pominville comes second. Vanek finishes the season with a hat trick. And how about Thibault? Everyone says he's got to go away and what happens? He ends the season with a shutout. 2 shutouts in 7 seven starts. Not bad.

I know this was a meaningless game, but given the win, it's hard to believe that we were three points out from making the playoffs. That's basically two games. That's the Montreal and Ottawa games. That's the Philly game. That's the Blues game. It's so frustrating that we were just three points away from making the playoffs. Oh well. Let's hope this will be like the 2003-2004 season and then come back next year and this team storms the NHL with a great run like the 2005-2006 team.

I'm convinced, this team is not that far off. I like the young talent. I like the guys we have. Really, it's just some minor roster tweaks that this team needs to make mainly a centerman who can win faceoffs, provide offense, and provide leadership and a defenseman who can be a top 4 defenseman who can play against top lines and can be a PP QB. I think we're really 2 players away from getting back into the playoffs and doing damage. Let's see if the front office thinks the same way and does what needs to be done to get this team in the playoffs and also profitable.

Not hating at all, just don't understand how anyone can look at his stretch run and say he stepped up his game to try to get the team into the playoffs.

March + April Stats leaders (coming into tonight):

Roy - 16 GP, 7-14-21, -1

Pommer - 16 GP, 8-12-20, +6

Hecht - 13 GP, 5-6-11, -1

Max - 16 GP, 3-7-10, -6

Vanek - 16 GP, 6-3-9, -9

Gaustad - 16 GP, 2-7-9, +3

You show some class Derek, good for you

Good for Derek. Always nice to see guys looking out for their teammates. Classy move.

Man, a 17-shot night with hardly any tough stops. I think the defense likes Tbo better than Ryan...

Yep. Thomas Vanish...until the games are meaningless. I hate Thomas Vanek.

He was second in the league in goals scored since the All-Star break. When the Sabres were driving for a playoff spot, he was there.

Game thoughts...

-Nice game for Tbo. Except for the 2 shutouts, almost every other game he was very shaky. Oh by the way, I predicted the shutout earlier in this thread. :)

-Pretty good effort by most of the team in a meaningless game.

-I have to give Vanek credit. His 5 on 5 play most of the year was very average, but he still managed to score 36 goals.

-Old man Teppo didn't embarrass himself considering it was his 1st game in almost a year.

-Bernier really looks lost out there. I never expected this after his 1st game as a Sabre. He is young and will hopefully benefit from a full camp as a Sabre.

-Peters last game as a Sabre? One can only hope.

-Mike Ryan with a nice effort after a long layoff.

-Roy with a very unselfish play.

...and finally

-Weber is not only a TOUGH SOB, but he is extremely lucky. That was one of the ugliest collisions into the boards you will ever see, yet he was out there a couple shifts later.

In the stretch run I think trading Campbell hurt the Sabres more so than poor play by any one forward. They won 2 of their next 8 games after the trade. Good D-men are hard to find and with the Lydman-Tallinder struggles this year losing Campbell was a tough adjustment.

I'm optimistic Roy-Vanek will be strong in 08-09. Vanek gets a bad rap but he goes to the net, goes to the corners, has nice hands and vision, and I've even seen him hit people on occassion. At his age and experience-level it's a little ambitious to expect him to be Mark Messier circa 1990-1994 in terms of leadership.

Without upgrading the D-corps somehow 08-09 could be another tough year. More consistency, fewer mistakes, more hitting, grit, and toughness please.

Two things with regard to the bolded comments I noticed tonight. First, the Bruins were not even trying and it was obvious. Second, my God, what a difference Teppo makes. Did you notice he was never out of position? Did you notice that he blocked a few shots tonight? Did you notice that he didn't turn the puck over in the defensive zone that directly led to a goal? Did you notice no mistakes from Teppo? Consequently, did you also notice a stronger game played by Tallinder because of it with few mistakes? I thought Lydman and Weber played well together as well. Teppo makes a big difference and it's so noticeable. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I really wish Teppo had played most of this season. I think this team is a playoff team if Teppo is there, but that's just my opinion.
