UncleWally Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Shut up about Finny. He played well tonight; no, not just the SO G. He was hustling like he was back in form.
bob_sauve28 Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Shut up about Finny. He played well tonight; no, not just the SO G. He was hustling like he was back in form. I thought he was bad, missing passes and stuff. On that 3 on 1 I thought he should have moved the puck, but hey, they scored anyway. I do think he is gone after the season
Bmwolf21 Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Anyone else think that given his skills - speed, shiftiness, acceleration - he should frigging DOMINATE in the OT and in 4-on-4 situations? I mean all that extra ice, a chance to wheel and deal - he should be absolutely tearing it up. He should have the opponents so worried about him that two other Sabres are wide-open all the time. BTW - thread title? I thought it meant "finished," like you see at the end of a foreign film or something. I've never heard him called "finny."
BuffalOhio Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 He still sucks. My azzhole puckers up everytime he has the puck! I never know what's going to happen, and most of the time it's bad!
darksabre Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Let's look at it this way. There's a half blind defenseman for the Islanders who has played just as many games and has almost the same stats as Max. I'm sorry, but our russian phenom offenseman should be better than an old blind guy.
wonderbread Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 I love listening to Paul Hamilton interviewing him. I can't understand one word he is saying, it sounds like he either has marbles or sh*t in his mouth.

I'm sorry, but our russian phenom offenseman should be better than an old blind guy. Don't be sorry. What's really sorry is the p!ss poor performance that Max has put up all season. He has only been consistent of one thing: inconsistency. BTW, while they let go of him, he needs to take Kalinin with him. He seems to be like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle that's been permanently and eternally shellshocked.
deluca67 Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Shut up about Finny. He played well tonight; no, not just the SO G. He was hustling like he was back in form. When was he every "in form"? Isn't his "form" inconsistent play and poor decision making?
carpandean Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 BTW, while they let go of him, he needs to take Kalinin with him. He seems to be like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle that's been permanently and eternally shellshocked. The great thing about Kalinin is that they don't actually have to do anything for him to go away. He is an UFA this summer, if they do nothing, then he is gone. Max, on the other hand, will take a really good sales pitch and a GM who thinks that he can fix him for us to kiss his $3.3 million salary for next season goodbye.
Chief Enabler Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 as bad as the rogersnet broadcast was (homers) they were speaking highly of Max, besides his stats this year. I wouldnt doubt that there is still value out there for him.
Doohicksie Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 On that 3 on 1 I thought he should have moved the puck, but hey, they scored anyway. I thought the same thing until I saw the replay. By trying to take away the pass the D gave Max a wide-open shot from the slot. If you can get into that position, you shoot. I can't blame him a bit. I think Max needs to stay. However, stop thinking of him as a potential Pavel Datsyuk; he has the skills but doesn't have the game awareness or vision. Just put him on the fourth line- the "energy" line- and instruct him to disrupt, disrupt, disrupt. I bet you he'd score 20 goals and have a solid +/- rating if you put him in that situation for a season. In short, stop trying to use his speed, energy and maneuverabilty as an offensive weapon and use it for defense.

After the puck went in Vanek was just standing there shaking his head like, WTF? I don't know if it was because Max didn't pass or whatever, but it sure looked strange What convinced me Max had to go was the PP play he made the other night against Boston. He passed the puck right to the Boston forward who ent right down and scored. You are right, he doesn't have that awareness. I don't hate him and yes, he might do well on the energy line, but we have so many forwards now. I think its time he moved on. He doesn't belong on the PP, IMO Just my $.02

From watching the replay, I thought Roy had a wide open net and passing lane while Vanek was a little more obscured. I know the RAV line had great moments last year but Max just seems to be on a different page from those two this year. The only times Max has looked good this year has been on the 4th line. That pass he had to Mair near the crease through traffic last night was a beauty and results in a goal a vast majority of the time. As soon as he went to the Roy line his head went right back up his ass.

But I have no idea where Max is looking when he carries the puck, it looks like he keeps his head at an angle to see traffic in a 12 ft. radius. Outside that radius nothing. Last year when he had success it was carrying the puck deep and turning to give a manageable pass to a trailer. I am convinced he doesn't have the vision to pass the puck up ice.

I wouldnt doubt that there is still value out there for him. I must have heard his name mentioned 4 or five times the past week too. Hot Stove, etc. I don't think the poor play has trickled down through the league yet. Gotta trade him early before the truth stars flyin'
Doohicksie Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 Sometimes you gotta shake a player up to get him to perform. I think putting Max on the 4th line as a permanent situation might do that. It will put him in a low pressure spot with respect to scoring but would allow the Sabres to get some benefit out of his talent. I was living in Detroit when Scotty Bowman made Federov play defense for about half a season (if I recall correctly). It made a pretty big impact on how he saw the ice and he improved dramatically, at least for a while.
