Corp000085 Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 7:30 pm How quickly things change from last year's april fools day. Last year, the sabres were wrapping up a president's trophy, getting connolly back, and figuring out their playoff opponent. This year? It's 2004 all over again. Unlike that season, I still believe the sabres have a very good chance. They need to win tonight or its not worth anything though. Nothing will make us all forget the fact that we're on the outside looking in than beating up the maple leafs at the ACC. There's a lot to be positive about for tonight's game. The #1 thing is the sekera/weber pairing. These guys went from camp fodder/ahl prospects to the team's current #1 pairing, especially with Tallydman's stock falling faster than Enron. #2 has to be Roy. This dude just produces. Also, after having about 12 average at best starts, Miller played very well last game. I suspect he'll continue the trend tonight. LETS GO BUFFALO!
inkman Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 I still believe the sabres have a very good chance.
mercury Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 According to TSN, McCabe and Toskala are out, while Pohl and Raycroft are in.
Guest Sloth Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 I wonder what the Sabres record would've been if Sekara and Weber played the entire season. Here is something that worries me. What if management is thinking the defense is set for next year w/ these two players doing so well. Will they not sign a good veteran defenseman?
Bmwolf21 Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 No shocker here, but according to WGR Kalinin, Spacek and Numminen are all out. LINK When the Sabres play the Leafs in Toronto Tuesday night, they will do so without defensemen Jaro Spacek, Dmitri Kalinin and Teppo Numminen. Coach Lindy Ruff ruled the trio out for that game but would not rule any one player out to play sometime this week. "I think there's still a possibility. (Spacek and Kalinin) haven't been able to practice with the team yet. Teppo has practiced with the team so we're just evaluating where he's at. The other two guys are basically day-to-day before they get back to practice."
X. Benedict Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 I wonder what the Sabres record would've been if Sekara and Weber played the entire season. Not much better. Sekera had a long call-up earlier and showed skills but not the poise, they needed time to adjust to the game. What if management is thinking the defense is set for next year w/ these two players doing so well. Will they not sign a good veteran defenseman? Anyone's guess, but it will have little to do with Sekera and Weber, it will have more to do with value on the UFA market.
SabresFan526 Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 Just win, baby. Can't worry about anything else. Toronto is out of the playoffs, and we played them real well the last time at ACC. We've got to repeat that performance and win tonight. No excuses. Lose, we're out. Win, and we're still in. Just got to get 'er done and win another critical game tonight and hope the scoreboard works in our favor. It did not last night, but hopefully it can over the rest of the week, and we continue to win our games.
carpandean Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 You know that Toronto would love to be the ones to do us in. Don't give them the pleasure! Our chances of making the playoffs are slim, at best, but there are still a few scenarios and in each, we need to win tonight. I will still be very sad if they miss the playoffs, but I want to at least see them make the other teams work to knock them out (in this last week, since they gave back three points last week). Don't take yourselves out! Most likely, tomorrow night will do it, but I hope that we still have a reason to watch the scoreboard.
LabattBlue Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008  I think he meant to say they have a very good chance of "missing" the playoffs!
Goodfella25 Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008  uhhh...April Fools???? Sounds like Sundin is also out tonight...per TSN.ca's "Ice Chips" section....
jrsarkov Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 Last year at this time the debate included how much work does Miller need to stay sharp for the playoffs and should Conks play more. How things have changed. 2 years ago heading to Carolina for the season finale and blowing them out with most of our starters in the game. ahhh- the memories.
nfreeman Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 I'm hoping the Sabres somehow sneak in as much as anyone is, but does anyone really think the Sabres have the mental toughness to win their last 3 games with the pressure on? I certainly don't. The stink of the 4-1 loss to Toronto and the 2 blown leads to Montreal and Ottawa is still lingering.

Without a doubt the difference between being here and being there(the playoffs). Still I do want to see them go out strong, definitely do not want to see the Leafs, Montreal or Boston end their season and would like to see us take the last 3 to start something to build on for next year..... So other then seeing how strong we finish and who still shows up to play I would really like to see Washington sneak by carolina...

jrsarkov Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 i doubt the sabres believe they will get the help from the caps, flyers and/or bruins that they really need. i think the "pressure" will not be on unless the caps lose tonight, and boston or philly lose tomorrow night. that assumes we win tonight- but, if that happens, yeah i can see mental toughness being a problem. come on- we all know we will have the door open, and blow a 2 goal lead saturday night; it has to be that way.

Fixed it for you.
Bmwolf21 Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 Jerry Sullivan was right (and God, saying that makes me feel dirty) that this team will likely wait until the last minute, getting our hopes up before blowing it and falling just short of the playoffs. Hey, it's been that way all year, right? Why change now?

I know they need a ton of help, but the Sabres play on the road has been outstanding going back to 1/24...9-2-2. It is their crappy home record over the last month that is killing them.

I certainly don't. The stink of the 4-1 loss to Toronto and the 2 blown leads to Montreal and Ottawa is still lingering. What really sucks about those is that they outplayed the opposition in all three games and gave up 5 points anyway (wait, remind me how many points behind we are ...). Toronto was one of those games where they played well, had lots of shots, but the puck just wouldn't go in (the famine part of feast-or-famine). In Ottawa and Montreal, they broke down after beating the other teams for 52 and 57 minutes, respectively. I actually think that they've been playing some of their best hockey of the season over the last five games, but showed their mental immaturity. Was it enough to learn from for the last three games? We shall see. Again, though, I say make the other teams eliminate us, don't do it for them (well, any more than they already have.)
VABeachSabresFanatic Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 Tonight is one more chance for the team to see who will "man up" and who won't. Another 55-minute effort won't cut it. Too bad Peters won't be able to use the mock golf swing again to taunt the Leafs about missing the playoffs....
LabattBlue Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 I think the Sabres win big tonight...Buffalo 6 Toronto 2. I'll be upset if the effort by everyone is not balls to the wall.
Sabretooth73 Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 I see them coming out flat, playing with a ridiculously low amount of heart or desperation...and will lose after they try to play harder halfway thru the 3rd but will eventuaLLY LOSE BY 2-3 GOALS. tHIS TEAM IS A GUTLESS GROUP OF LOSERS, PERIOD. STARTS AT THE TOP,. SO F YOU TOM, LARRY, AND DARCY! tHANKS FOR 2 MONTHS OF NOTHING TO WATCH!
wjag Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 Thomas Vanek goes on a 3-game terror scoring 5 goalies to propel Buffalo into the playoffs....
