wonderbread Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 They are not very popular on this board... I think they are still the #1 pair heading into next season.. On the last home game of the season, DTV let the whole post game show be seen. First time ever.. I think they must be getting wind that I am calling them CRAPTV.. Free preview of their sports package this week I think.
billsoverdue Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 But can the Sabres win theirs. Therein lies the problem. :( Sorry for the negativity in my first post. Just keeping it real. B-)
FogBat Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 Great win for Buffalo, although a regulation win would have been nice. Here's the updated playoff scenario:To make the playoffs, the Sabres have to win their final 3 games and then have 2 of the following 4 things happen: 1. WAS loses 2 of 3 games (1 can be in OT) (or CAR loses all 3 games (1 can be in OT)) 2. BOS loses all 3 games (1 loss - other than against the Sabres - can be in OT) - the last game is against Buffalo 3. PHI loses all 3 games (1 can be in OT) 4. NYR loses all 4 games in regulation If Philly or Boston goes 0-2-1 and ends up tied with the Sabres, Buffalo would win the tiebreaker. The first tiebreaker is wins but they would have the same record. The second tiebreaker is head-to-head record - the Sabres picked up more points against Philly, and they would have the same number of points head-to-head as Boston (assuming that Buffalo wins the last game in regulation). The Sabres would beat Boston on goal differential. The toughest thing would be for Buffalo win out. I could see Washington or Carolina struggling in the final week, and I could also see Boston dropping games against NJ and OTT. At the very least, it could go down to the final weekend. In all honesty, I would have preferred for the Sabres to lose outright tonight instead of putting us through needless pain and suffering. Now we have to sit through another game until they are mathematically eliminated. I hate to sound negative, but it's just inevitable. Oh, and big Thank Yous (NOT!!!) to Larry Quinn for not letting Darcy do the job that he was hired on for in the first place -- long before LQ came on the scene when Tommy bought the team. I would not be surprised if Darcy and Lindy quit. While they would mince their words in their departure speeches, such a humongous departure would speak volumes against the top dogs whose picture of the "Bottom Line" is radically different from everyone else's. Maybe I'll write something a bit more coherent when I wake up in the morning... <_<
LabattBlue Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 Throw it away instead of "throwing it out there." That's hardly the whole story. He frustrated the hell out of the entire Boston team right in front of the net in the third when he singlehandedly played keep-away from all six--that includes Auld-- but not one teammate came to his aid by knocking a defender away. Still Max held that puck for a good eight to ten seconds, and the Sabres did keep it in for a while. So while Max stickhandles himself silly, you want his teammates to knock down the opposing players? I'm not sure what point you were trying to make, but this doesn't make any sense. Here is why I am done with Max... 1.Stays on the ice too long for a shift 2.Over stickhandles to the point where his teammates end up standing around watching him 3.Stupid lazy penalties 4.Bad giveaways

Lindy singled Max out for having a decent 3rd period after nailing his butt to the bench for the bulk of periods 1 & 2. He had, from what I saw, 1-2 good shifts in the 3rd and a couple others that were unimpressive.
Guest Sloth Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 Would you guys compare the Sabres chances of making the playoffs to a team coming back from 3-0 deficit (win/loss) in the playoffs?
jrsarkov Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 chances are like being down 3-0 in a series, and entering the 3rd period down 3-0.

This is one of my biggest Pet peeves, the automatic assumption that Darcy is this great GM but is being heldback because Quinn is secretly running the show. Where is the proof in any of this? Because he speaks at press Conferences? I have never heard Darcy say that he tried doing something but Larry vetoed it (or thet the "higher ups" vetoed it. I have never heard players leave and say that they would have stayed but couldn't work out a deal with Quinn. Or that the negotiations were going well until Quinn stuck his nose in. Everyone just hates Quinn so they believe that he is holding Darcy back.
apuszczalowski Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 Does anyone know if the Fans at the end of the arena were asked to take down their Max Sign on the wall at the top? Did anyone see it? I think it was around section 301 someone spelled out "All Maxed Out - Trade Him!". It also looked like there was someone with a sign that said "Go Sabres" or something like that on one side and when they put it up on the screen they turned it around to say something about the front office and the quickly switched to someone else in the crowd.

Friends of mine a couple sections over from me said they saw it. When I went to look, it was gone.
carpandean Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 Would you guys compare the Sabres chances of making the playoffs to a team coming back from 3-0 deficit (win/loss) in the playoffs? The difference is that in that case, you win out and you are on to the next round or win the cup. Here, they need to win out and two out of four teams basically need to lose out. Only one of their remaining games is head-to-head againt one of those four, so they don't control their own destiny. They need to take care of their part (win out), but then they still need a lot of help.
SwampD Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 After Saturday, there will be only one team who's season won't end with a loss. I hope the Sabres win out and don't make the playoffs. That way, all summer I'll just pretend that we won four straight to sweep the finals.

Having said that, I thought that you and every other Sabres fan were going to nail me for wishing that the Sabres had lost last night just to put us out of our misery. Had they put on a performance this season like they did in the previous two, I wouldn't have this "Pack it in" mentality. I'm just sick and tired of this organization taking their fans for granted. They've done this for the past 37-38 seasons, and it's getting really old. BTW, TG may be looking at his own bottom line. Well, here's another bottom line: win a championship and your revenues will really skyrocket!

WGR reported this morning that the sign was taken down by Sabres/HSBC staff late in the first period. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I'm on record in this thread--and elsewhere--with my opinion that Max gets a bum rap. And I understand the team's interest in controlling its brand identity, etc. But at a certain level, the fans who paid to come in to the game shouldn't be censored while they're in the arena (as long as it isn't vulgar, you know?). (And yes, you budding libertarians, I know it isn't a First Amendment issue.) It's kind of like asking Leaves fans to take the lunchbags off of their heads, eh?

The last time a Buffalo sports franchise had forced fans to remove signs that went against management a new president/GM was brought in, maybe it happens again? If only we could prove that the orders came from Quinn and Regier
