Corp000085 Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 6:00pm To continue the maddening trend, buffalo will now finish the season 4-0, with a resounding victory tonight over boston, only to miss out on the playoffs by 1 point to philly... Yes, that point that got away last month. However, we're not there yet. just beat boston tonight.
SabresFan526 Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 There's no choice but to win, that too in regulation. No regulation win, the season is finished. Too many points to catch up on, and it is unlikely for Boston and Philly to falter. A regulation win and they are still in. Anything else, and they are finished. Boston is coming off a huge win yesterday destroying the Sens 4-0. The Bruins are a team we have had some success against this year, so you just absolutely have to beat them. There is no other choice. You can't give up a multi-goal lead in the third. You can't let them have the lead only to tie it up at the end of the third to take it to OT. That, too, won't be enough. The Sabres pretty much have to dominate the game FOR 60 MINUTES. Not for 50, not for 55, not for 56, not for 57, 58, or 59 minutes. THEY MUST DOMINATE THE GAME FOR 60 MINUTES!!!! End of story.
VABeachSabresFanatic Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 To make the playoffs, the Sabres have to win their final 4 games and then have 2 of the following 4 things happen: 1. WAS loses 2 of 3 games (1 can be in OT) (or CAR loses all 3 games (1 can be in OT)) 2. PHI loses all 3 games (1 can be in OT) 3. BOS loses all 4 games (2 can be in OT) - 2 of the 4 are against Buffalo 4. NYR loses all 5 games in regulation The one thing Buffalo has in its favor is the tiebreaker against Boston or Philly if either of those teams loses out. Buffalo would end up with the same number of wins as either of those teams, but Buffalo would win the next tiebreaker (season record). Even if Boston picked up a point in an OT loss against Buffalo, the next tiebreaker is goals scored/ goals against differential, which Buffalo would win. The toughest thing would be for Buffalo to win out, so tonight's game is obviously critical. GO SABRES!!!
Corp000085 Posted March 30, 2008 Author Report Posted March 30, 2008 va, nice breakdown. Let's just worry about the sabres first. if they win out, great.
Bmwolf21 Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 All those scenarios make my head hurt. Thanks for pissing away a ton of points earlier in the season, Buffalo, and making it hard on yourselves and your fans. <_<
Chief Enabler Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 These last four games are either gonna feel like a funeral, or scratching a winning lottery ticket with no prize.
bob_sauve28 Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 Just win baby! Keep that faint flicker of hope alive for one more day
Hawk Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 It comes down to this: 60 minutes of hockey. Hard checking by the Mair line. Make them afraid to play. Dont look ahead. The grim reality is any kind of loss today, Regulation, OT or shootout, and it's over. :( :( GO SABRES !!!
carpandean Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 It is unlikely that we will sneak in, but quite likely that find ourselves playing spoiler, knocking Boston out and letting Washington in. I'm watching more to see what this team has for next season. If we win out, no one will be happier than I will be (and I do believe we can!) Likewise, if winning out puts us in the playoffs. However, barring that, each game is a learning opportunity. For example, play the kids on D during some tough situations and see how they handle it. They can't do much worse than our so-called veterans.
McJeff215 Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 These last four games are either gonna feel like a funeral, or scratching a winning lottery ticket with no prize. Ha, great analogy. It's like scratching off three $1's and winning a buck. It still feels good to win, but it sure as hell isn't taking you anywhere. I'll admit, I'm a whole hell of a lot more disappointed than I thought I'd be. This sucks.
wonderbread Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 long season frustration mounts theres always next year this Sabres Haiku brought to you by West Herr Ford
darksabre Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 long seasonfrustration mounts theres always next year this Sabres Haiku brought to you by West Herr Ford  I'm only going to have it on as background noise to doing homework. It's really rather meaningless at this point. How about them Bills?

Thanks for pissing away a ton of points earlier in the season, Buffalo, and making it hard on yourselves and your fans. <_< Don't forget the disastrous late Dec - mid Jan stretch where the Sabres went 10 games without a win. Or the first few games after the Campbell trade (2 wins in 8 games).

Hey, on a side note, is today fan appreciation night since its the last home game? Hopefully they give away something slightly cooler than a pompom.

NONE of the above have even a slight possibility of taking place.

Or the first few games after the Campbell trade (2 wins in 8 games). Oh god that was a tough time! They outplayed their opponets in a couple of those games and I swear they must have hit 40 goal posts in those 10 games. That was one of the most frustrating times I've lived through as a Sabre fan, and that's, sadly, saying a lot
LabattBlue Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 I'll be at the game and I hope the Sabres find a way to put forth a good effort. I would hate to see them get booed off the ice for the last home game of the season.

NONE of the above have even a slight possibility of taking place. The chances are very slim, but I posted the scenarios for those (like me) who cling to the last ray of hope until it is violently torn from them. I really think the hardest part is the Sabres winning out though.
ofiba Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 i still believe; or BILLIEVE That word is like a curse. Whenever I read that, nothing good ever happens.

millbank Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 It is possible Boston will not win other game unless its against Buffalo, there is hope.
