apuszczalowski Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 I've asked myself this a thousand times, how did this cheeseballtastic 80's song from Cameo get redone by some lame white dudes and teamed up with a car commercial in 2008? Weird... I don't know whats worse, the fact that it got covered (Korn did a version last year, and they might not be extremly lame, how can you consider a band that occasionally uses bag pipes lame?) and now used almost 20 years later in car commercials, or that fact that you knew who did the original version?
inkman Posted March 28, 2008 Author Report Posted March 28, 2008 ...or that fact that you knew who did the original version? I can remember the lead singer with the eraser head hair-doo. The 80's were my formative music years, the ages of 9-18, cut me some slack. Word up, ooh-ooh! Everybody say.... This #%^$#! sticks like glue.
That Aud Smell Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Haven't seen it - additional details? (Manufacturer? Model?) Or is there linkelage? Anyway, I can't tell, Ink, if you're amazed, disgusted, or some combination thereof. For my own part, I will say that if I were forced to pick the 20 best pop songs to chart in the top-100 during the 80s, "Word Up" would have to be among them. At a minimum, we must give respect to Larry Blackmon's red codpiece. One last note -- the new trend seems to be for Madison Ave. to tap unknown indie bands for their advertising anthems -- but I remember when they were going to the 80s instead -- like when Saturn used Alphaville's 80s anthem "Forever Young" ... that one got me all verklempt.
Doohicksie Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 I think it's the Chevy commercial, if it's the one I think you're talking about. The background music sounds like something by A Flock of Seagulls (remember them?)
rbochan Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 A little bit of my insides died the day I heard the Buzzcocks in a car commercial.
evil_otto Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Nothing ruins a song quite like a car commercial does.
cdexchange Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Neil Young is pretty much the only old-timer left who won't allow his music to be used for this nonsense. Even Dylan did those ridiculous Victoria Secret commercials a few years ago, and Zeppelin leased their music to Cadillac. How much freakin' money do these guys need? Lame. This note's for you!
