rickshaw Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Wow, Miller actually saved 2 shots, amazing. Just delaying the inevitable though.
Buffalo Fan Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 I posted earlier that I thought he was done. What do I know? Maybe he's trying to show me up or piss me off, but at least he's trying to fight through and trying to help get his team into the playoffs. Whether he's got enough juice left in the tank to do so remains to be seen, but he's fighting to the end, and I guess that's all we can ask of any of these guys over the next five days - just go down swinging. I was looking for some poetry just before the Heatley shot...the camera view made it look like Miller's eyes had rolled completely back in his head...I though maybe his head would spin completely around...for a second, I thought he made the save. It would have been a hell of a nice finish for the guy. He'll get back on track.
inkman Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 I will say, I'm liking the tandem of Seker and Weber more and more. They did make a few mistakes tonight, but they are still learning the craft and are both, in my mind, top-4 NHL D-men. My new man crush is Mike Weber. Dude is the real deal. Sekera compliments him well. I want them as the #1 D pair next year, regardless of who is on the roster.
inkman Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 I'm out of town for a week and look what happens! playoffs shmayoffs, F$CK you Ottawa!!!!!!!! 2 points more than losin' I was wondering where ya been. Thought maybe you died or something...
Bmwolf21 Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 My new man crush is Mike Weber. Dude is the real deal. Sekera compliments him well. I want them as the #1 D pair next year, regardless of who is on the roster. I'm fine with that. More Weber/Sekera = less Talydman.
tasker48b Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Sabres Win! Sabres Win! Sabres Win! IN A SHOOT-OUT NO LESS Still alive. Still alive.
tasker48b Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 I'm fine with that. More Weber/Sekera = less Talydman. yeah - what was Tallinder thinking with that lazy cross-ice backhand pass from the corner in OT. PeeWee coaches the world over lost their minds on that one.
shrader Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Miller came out much further during the shootout than he has all year. It's no surprise that it was far more successful than his earlier attempts. And really, why hasn't Pominville been in more of those shootouts?
LabattBlue Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Game thoughts.... -I missed the first two periods, was pleased with what I saw in the 3rd period, OT and the shootout. -I guess Ottawa didn't get the memo to shoot high on Miller in the shootout. -I don't know how Vanek played in the first 2 periods, but he did nothing in the 3rd. I'm having a bad feeling about Vanek's future. I don't know why, I just am. Just one sidenote on Vanek...I HATE how easy he gets knocked off his skates when he is along the boards. He is 210 pounds...start playing like it. -Gaustad with a HUGE goal at the end of a relentless shift with Kotalik & Stafford. GO SABRES!!!!!!!
Bmwolf21 Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 yeah - what was Tallinder thinking with that lazy cross-ice backhand pass from the corner in OT. PeeWee coaches the world over lost their minds on that one. I nearly had a heart attack when I saw that. Miller came out much further during the shootout than he has all year. It's no surprise that it was far more successful than his earlier attempts. And really, why hasn't Pominville been in more of those shootouts? Pominville is just the second Sabre to score more than one SO goal this year. Sad, isn't it? That was Roy's first SO goal of the year, giving the Sabres 6 SO goalscorers - four with 1 each, one with 2 (Pominville) and one with 4 (Kotalik.)
Bmwolf21 Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 For those that are interested, here is the NHL Rulebook section on shootouts. Once the SO starts the only way you can change goalies is for injury. I guess the question would be what does the league consider the start of the shootout. When the lineups are handed in? When the OT period ends? Seems like common sense would say it starts when the lineup cards are filled out, but this is the NHL - common sense need not apply. For the record, though - I know it's frustration with the SO results and Miller's play, but unless a goalie - whether it's Miller, Enroth or whoever - is guessing like a soccer keeper and diving one way or the other before the shot, I say you dance with who brought ya. Miller's still capable (as he showed tonight) of making some saves in the SO, so I'm not going to even consider calling for an frozen-cold T-Bo coming in for the SO. Anyway here it is: 84.4 Shootout - During regular-season games, if the game remains tied at the end of the five (5) minute overtime period, the teams will proceed to a shootout. The rules governing the shootout shall be the same as those listed under Rule 25 - Penalty Shot. The teams will not change ends for the shootout. The home team shall have the choice of shooting first or second. The teams shall alternate shots. Three (3) players from each team shall participate in the shootout and they shall proceed in such order as the Coach selects. All players are eligible to participate in the shootout unless they are serving a ten-minute misconduct or have been assessed a game misconduct or match penalty. Guidelines related to stick measurement requests during the shootout are outlined in 10.7 ?(Stick Measurements ? Prior to Shootout Attempt.) Once the shootout begins, the goalkeeper cannot be replaced unless he is injured. No warm up shall be permitted for a substitute goalkeeper. Each team will be given three shots, unless the outcome is determined earlier in the shootout. After each team has taken three shots, if the score remains tied, the shootout will proceed to a "sudden death" format. No player may shoot twice until everyone who is eligible has shot. If, however, because of injury or penalty, one team has fewer players eligible for the shootout than its opponent, both teams may select from among the players who have already shot. This procedure would continue until the team with fewer players has again used all eligible shooters. Regardless of the number of goals scored during the shootout portion of overtime, the final score recorded for the game will give the winning team one more goal than its opponent, based on the score at the end of overtime. The losing goalkeeper will not be charged with the extra goal against. The player scoring the game-winning goal in the shootout will not be credited with a goal scored in his personal statistics. If a team declines to participate in the shootout procedure, the game will be declared as a shootout loss for that Team. If a team declines to take a shot it will be declared as "no goal."
wjag Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Game thoughts -- Sabres got beat a lot tonight on the Ottawa dump in. Seems to me that the book on the Sabres is to pressure the PPers and they'll turn the puck over. I believe that the PP goal on the first PP attempt was the first all year. The Sabres initial PP in every game this year has been atrocious. But tonight they finally got a goal. Outshot the heck out of Ottawa. Seems like we hit three posts also. Max had a decent game. I remember only one rush where he crossed the line and gave away the puck. PK nice job. Thomas Vanish is back. On to Montreal... Note to Sabres: STAY OUT OF THE PENALTY BOX
inkman Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Thomas Vanish is back. Someone with some skills needs to create a Thomas Vanish avatar.
Doohicksie Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Weber seems to be pretty good with the puck for a big guy. Weber > Campbell Weber takes the body much better than Campbell ever did.
inkman Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Weber > Campbell Weber takes the body much better than Campbell ever did. Whoa there! Slow down. I said I had a man crush, not that I wanted to suck his d--- ...yet.
X. Benedict Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Weber > Campbell Weber takes the body much better than Campbell ever did. Was it Weber who screwed up on the first goal? Take the shooter or the pass - it looked like he chose to thread the difference which handcuffed Miller, or was that Sekera?
Doohicksie Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 My new man crush is Mike Weber. Dude is the real deal. Sekera compliments him well. I want them as the #1 D pair next year, regardless of who is on the roster. I have never more violently agreed with anything you wrote, inkman. Funny thing is the first goal was really Weber's fault (misplay in the offensive zone). But still, I like what I see. He was pressured in that case; I think he learned from the experience. -Gaustad with a HUGE goal at the end of a relentless shift with Kotalik & Stafford.GO SABRES!!!!!!! We've known Gaustad is a stud for a while now, and Stafford clearly has his moments. I've really been impressed with Kotalik lately. He has clearly elevated his game.
Bmwolf21 Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Offensive-zone faceoffs need to improve. 9/22 in the Ottawa end, mostly on the strength of Roy (4-5) and Kotalik (2-3.)
RoyPommer Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Tonight we saw the Sabres we all know and love. The clutch Sabres, the Sabres we saw last year. Played hard through out the entire game, worked hard for every goal, few mental errors, and a good strong effort from each and every player. Even Miller stepped it up in the shootout. I wish he would have stepped that up all season, but it is what is. I hope the Sabres play like this for the rest of the regular season, it makes for good exciting games to watch. Montreal is going to be a tough team to beat, we need to stay out of the sin bin as much as possible, Montreal is deadly on the powerplay. LET'S GO BUFFALO, let's finish out this season strong, make a playoff run!
carpandean Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 On to Montreal... Note to Sabres: STAY OUT OF THE PENALTY BOX And this means don't give the refs any excuse to call a penalty (i.e., put your stick near the mid-section, whether or not it is horizontal.) I'm fine with that. More Weber/Sekera = less Talydman. I'd like to see them pick up one more top 4 defenseman to play with Spacek, but realistically that may not happen without finding a taker for Lydman or Tallinder. Can anyone else see Lydman and Tallinder dropping to the third pair?
wonderbread Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Whoa there! Slow down. I said I had a man crush, not that I wanted to suck his d---...yet.  You nasty bastage.

I want them as the #1 D pair next year, regardless of who is on the roster. Ya Inky, you had Weber pegged as a good d-man before I had even knew who he was. The kid can play! Good call. Him and Sakara make me happy for our future. On another note, losing both Campbell and Spacek has killed the PP. Jaro is missed
wjag Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Toronto was eliminated yesterday... They are officially on the first tee..
inkman Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Toronto was eliminated yesterday... They are officially on the first tee.. It was more fun when the Sabres weren't on the verge of elimination as well.
