is this the 2006 Eastern Conference Finals?? anyone???? Gerber outplaying Miller again.

It was Cam Ward against Miller that series, not Gerber. Ward came in in the first round, then Gerber came back in the second round, and then Ward came back in the middle of the second round and took over for the rest of the playoffs. So, I wouldn't say Gerber outplayed Miller that series.

i wish we were going to the playoffs this year and i envy the sens. But, if we made it 11 consec yrs without a cup, and making it to the finals 1 time----- everyone would be like, oh so what- only matters if you win the cup. and on and on and on. no grit; not tough enough. not good enough goaltending, etc. the sens will get bounced by the rags or choke away a series like they always do.

We played a few games against Gerber. Laviolet kept going back and forth and playing the hot hand.

You're right. I was going to correct myself. I think Gerber started the series, and then Ward came in and took over for the rest of the playoffs in the Sabres series. You're right. Either way, I don't think Gerber was the one outplaying Miller in that series. More the Sabres playing with more AHL defenseman than an AHL squad skates being the reason the Canes won that series.

Man, Miller has got to make the save on Fisher's goal and also on Spezza's goal. He's given up two really bad goals tonight. I agree the Sabres did not get back and it was a bad lapse, but man, Miller has absolutely got to make the save on Fisher's goal. The Sabres were okay in the second, but the Sabres have got to come out strong and win this third period. Otherwise, this season is over. Let's get a quick goal and pour it on. We cannot let the Sens take over tonight.

Agreed on all counts. The two bad goals overshadow what has otherwise been a decent performance so far - he's made a handful of big stops. But I don't know if it's overcommitting, guessing, trying to do too much, overthinking or what - but he's playing out of control at times and it's hurt them.

I think Miller's just done at this point. Mentally, physically, fatigue, pressure - whatever you want to point to. He just looks a step slower than earlier in the year, his positioning is a bit off, he goes down a little quicker than he should.

Ward started the series. Ward got yanked in game 3 for Gerber. Gerber started game 4 and shut us out. Gerber started game 5 but then got yanked for Ward.

The Canes' coach was touted as a genius after they won the Cup, but he looked like a putz coaching the US olympic team that year. Hopefully someone else will be coaching the next time around.

He's played a ridiculous amount of games, and he knows that there's no relief in sight until the offseason. Anyone else wish they had kept Conklin around?!?

I've been talking about that for some time. When some of us proposed nights off for Ryan back in February and earlier this month, some of the replies were "ride him till he falls over." Guess what? It's happening now, at the worst possible time - just like some of us feared.

Conklin? Right now I'd take ANY backup goalie that could be counted on to spell him a few games here and there.

Toni Lydman with his best impersonation of a construction cone!!!

Good to see that when Campbell left he was kind enough to leave Lydman in charge of the patented pylon defense...
