Cyber Sabre (TM) Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 contrary to what many think, this is not over yet, with 6 games to go for the Sabres and 5 or 6 to go for teams seeded 4th to 9th place in EC, there's only 2 Teams marked as "X" or "clinched playoffs", so why is everyone planning for the draft or season 2008-2009, or even "firing" coaches or players???? What the heck?

inkman Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 Because when you give up 5 goals in the last period of a game you desperately need, you don't belong in the playoffs. ...and don't have the fortitude of a team that will actually make the playoffs. The game is up, the emperor has no clothes.

As much as I would love to see the Sabres in the playoffs, I just don't see it happening. These guys are cooked and even if by some miracle they did make it in, Ryan Miller is so overplayed he would be a zombie out there.
Hawk Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 Everybody sing!!! Somewhere over the rainbow Way up high There's a land that I heard of Once in a lullaby Somewhere over the rainbow Skies are blue And the dreams that you dare to dream Really do come true Some day I'll wish upon a star And wake up where the clouds are far behind me Where troubles melt like lemondrops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me Somewhere over the rainbow Bluebirds fly Birds fly over the rainbow Why then, oh why can't I? Some day I'll wish upon a star And wake up where the clouds are far behind me Where troubles melt like lemondrops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me Somewhere over the rainbow Bluebirds fly Birds fly over the rainbow Why then, oh why can't I? If happy little bluebirds fly Beyond the rainbow Why, oh why can't I?
cgang Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 Because when you give up 5 goals in the last period of a game you desperately need, you don't belong in the playoffs. That's pretty much spot on.
Bmwolf21 Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 Because when you give up 5 goals in the last period of a game you desperately need, you don't belong in the playoffs. And Bingo was his name-o.... Do you understand the Law of Averages? As much as I would love to see the Sabres in the playoffs, I just don't see it happening. These guys are cooked and even if by some miracle they did make it in, Ryan Miller is so overplayed he would be a zombie out there. That's a scary thought. No break before the postseason starts, so he'd be at 80+ games by the second week in April. At what point do they skate him out there and tie his arms and legs to the goalposts, Mighty Ducks/Goldberg-style?
Mike Oxhurtz Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 It's time to get the fat lady warmed up.
Fighting Chicken Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 Seems that smoking crack is a minority event though... :D
Bigthuder1636 Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 I just feel the need to point out that in the subheading of this thread "uncomplete" is not a word. Sorry but it bothers me
Done Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 I just feel the need to point out that in the subheading of this thread "uncomplete" is not a word. Sorry but it bothers me You are incorrect. Larry Quinn has submitted the entry to Oxford for inclusion come their reprint of the dictionary. It will also be the title of the Sabres '07-'08 DVD.
apuszczalowski Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 They may mathematically still be in it and stranger things have happened, but its not easy to be optimistic when you see teams around them are getting hotter while they are playing the same way they have all season. They need to get on a real hot streak, and need alot of teams around them to go on a big losing streak to have a chance. Its also hard to continue to have faith when even the FO never had faith in them and pretty much left the outcome/success of the season on a hope and a prayer* * To explain what I meant - saying that they won't be as good after letting the captains walk, and doing nothing to replace them, when they had plenty of time to do it, knowing that the defence has been mediocre at best, so come the trade deadline you trade away your best defencemen, and then don't bring in a replacement for him, and have a backup goalie you have absolutly no faith in that you are willing to wear out your starter and don't try and get a replacement (I would have taken Huet for a 2nd and used a 1a/1b goalie tandem into the playoffs with Miller to rest him going into the playoffs)
stenbaro Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 ...and don't have the fortitude of a team that will actually make the playoffs. The game is up, the emperor has no clothes. Where did you come up with that one..LOL
carpandean Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 I believe! I believe! Ok, I am a realist, so I know that chances are very good that they will not get in. However, I won't write them off until they are completely out of it. Realistically, they need to win every game left to do it (actually, they could lose up to three more if they are not the Bruins games, but that would mean that Boston needs to lose every game and Washington needs to lose three, and Florida ... and Toronto ... which I don't see happening). Even then, Boston has to lose two of their four other games (or the Flyers lose four of five) and Washington has to lose at least one. Oh, and these have to be regulation losses, too. If the Sabres don't win tonight that will almost do it, especially if Boston wins tonight. The team needs to step up and take care of their part. They seemed to have done that last game through 52 minutes and then melted down. Tonight they need to do it for 60 minutes.
inkman Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 Where did you come up with that one..LOL linky Almost everyone has heard the children's story by Hans Christian Andersen entitled, "The Emperor's New Clothes". It is a very interesting story about human nature. When the Emperor parades around in clothes that are invisible no one says anything because everybody thinks that if they cannot see the clothes that they are stupid, ignorant, or insane. . . or at least others will think that they are. The farce continues until a child exclaims, "The Emperor has no clothes!"
Swedesessed Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 The absolute only chance this team has is to get 4 points from the Ruins and hope for the best in the other games and hope Boston loses tonight. Otherwise, its done.
SDS Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 I'm with you. There is an entire offseason to piss and moan. Why not wait until it is official? What does that hurt?
RayFinkle Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 I don't think it is over yet. It is still too early and this experience isn't painful enough yet for a Buffalo sports team. They'll pull close again, and then blow it with one game left.

SarasotaSabre Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 Thanks for putting it into perspective, Ray. Now I really have something to look forward to... <_< Most overused description I'd like to propose we banish forever from this board: "SPOT ON" Sorry, it's been bothering me. I hate that we stole it from the Brits and now it's become a cliche for us.
