SwampD Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 Only two plus players for the Sabres tonight - guess who? Sekera +1 Weber +2 Notable minuses: Lydman -3 Hecht -3 Tallinder -2 Max -2 That's a great post. I'm not making excuses because I can't stand his play, but lydman did go up against their top line.
carpandean Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 I'll never understand why they let him go. On second thought i forgot that this season was all about Galisano making money. He obviously doesn't care about the cup, just as long as he maintains his surplus of millions. But i see why letting Dru go made perfect sense. Who needs a player that can rally the team, keep the team in line, score big goals, and take #%^$#!ing pucks to the face?. Seems like thats invaluable on a hockey club. But we locked up Vanek for seven years,to a deal he seemingly will never prove worthy of. For the record, they may have mucked up the process a little bit, but they hardly just "let him go." They matched the Rangers' offer. They said they wanted to build around him. Chris wanted to go play for his childhood favorite team.

SwampD Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 For the record management could have locked him up early but spun their wheels... I'm so tired of hearing about this. He says he would have stayed but there is no way to prove that. Both he and briere were going to try their hand on the open market no matter what they say.
carpandean Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 For the record management could have locked him up early but spun their wheels... Thus the "may have mucked up the process" line. As SwampD said, you can't prove either way, but even if they did, it doesn't change the fact that they didn't just "let him go." The let Briere go, not Drury. The difference is that they wanted Chris, but didn't get a deal done, whereas Briere they knew they didn't want for anything near what he wanted.
DR HOLLIDAY Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 Just go look at the Catherine Bell thread, you will feel much better! Will do..............
Done Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 I'm calling it now......If Campbell makes it to July 1st, Quinn is going to resign him, 6 for $42million!!!!! That would be the cherry on top of the hot-fudgelike sundae. Interesting offseason. I want to see how the fans react to this thing.

Wow, you are either 12 years old or looking for attention to throw that comment out. There is NO POSSIBLE WAY they sign brian for 6/42. If that's what the sabres thought brian was worth than the deal would be done before they traded him away. Brian is no where near worth 7 mil per. Ya I get it, I watched how poorly our defense really is tonight but I'm not throwin that kind of money towards campbell. Say goodbye to miller and pommers if that's the thinkin.

The Drury talks in the middle of the year was something like a guy proposing to his long term girlfriend when he was piss-drunk and didn't have a ring. The girl said yes. She asked him the next morning "when are we going ring shopping honey?" He said, "what the F are you talking about?" She storms out the door and doesn't give him any nookie for a few weeks, at which time the guy says "If it really means that much to you, I guess we could get married sometime." She says..."Get your sh!t in order first." Over the next few months, the guy calls the girls sister a b!tch, he goes to Vegas for a week without her, and walks in at 3 AM every now and then. Valentine's day is coming up and he figures it's time to propose for real. He comes home with a ring, thinking he can give it to her during a romantic dinner. There's only one thing wrong....She's banging her old high school boyfriend on the couch when he walks in. There is the summary of the Drury/Sabres saga
ORSabre Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 On the first Ottawa goal, haven't we seen the exact same shot, taken from the exact same spot, beat Miller in three of the last five games? Now that our playoff hopes are all but dead, do we get to listen to Tom G. whine about the Sabres not breaking even this season? Really great game tonight... <_<

Done Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 See, my original point was right ... he did ask! Funny story by the way. A bit overstated, but still a good laugh. we've all rehashed it so many times, we can probably come up with a book of them... I don't doubt they tried to match at the end.
darksabre Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 I didn't watch a minute of it and feel the better for it. I turned it off after the first goal and never looked back. This team just needs to be gutted. Next year should be...something. At least now I know I wont be skipping my evening classes for playoff games.
Kristian Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 At least now I can step off that mental rollercoaster this team has put me through all season. Miller had a season of weak goal after weak goal, behind a horribly mis-managed "defense", and that's basically the season in a nutshell. I'm a Miller supporter, but at this point I think he's making a serious play for Biron's title as "The King of the Softie". This team was never in a position to make the playoffs with our goaltending and defense looking like this. Miller needs way more shots blocked to be effective, it would seem. The game is leaving you dead in it's tracks, Darcy. You should've seen it coming last year, but you didn't catch on, and as such you're left behind.
ExiledInIllinois Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 briere scored his 30th tonight; nahhhh------- no use to us. Ya... He is a -21... That means he only scored 9 goals that helped his team in a positive manner! ;) ;)
ExiledInIllinois Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 I still think the Sabres will play Boston on the last night of season for final playoff position..... I do too Mill!! (second last night!) ;) ;)
tom webster Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 Ya... He is a -21... That means he only scored 9 goals that helped his team in a positive manner! ;) ;) That is a way over the top simplification of what plus/minus means. Not to meantion that -15 of the 21 came in about a three week strecth.

Not to meantion that -15 of the 21 came in about a three week strecth. Ya! Na... Na! :D :D But he has been on the ice 21 MORE times for OPPONENT'S goals! He should give a few of his teamates ON OTHER LINES a cut of his pay... You know for the good enough record they have and bailing him out... He has played on lines with basically the whole team! That is the damning part of his -21... As one poster said before, he really needs the wet blankets out there! Where is the tongue emoticon when you need it?

I'd still take his 6-14 SO numbers from last year. Maybe that would give us more than one guy who could score a 1-1 SO goal...

Go to OTW at TSW!  Sure, I would take it too! Doesn't mean it was ever gonna happen this year... Guys in hockey are replaceable... Sure the Sabres took a hit, things will get better... You think somebody would have stepped up! Sure Darcy misjudged... But not by much! Look at the hair thin records that separate teams in the east!

Look at the hair thin records that separate teams in the east! E, no offense, but I don't want to look at this rationally, and I definitely don't want to go to the "oh well, things didn't work out this year, but it's gonna get better" mentality. First off, there is no guarantee that things will get better. Darcy and co. might have seriously misjudged this team's abilities and mental toughness, and who knows if the FO will make any moves to improve the team. Don't want to ruin chemistry, you know? <_< They screwed up and lost both the captains and couldn't afford to re-sign Campbell at the lottery jackpot numbers he'll get this offseason. It happens. But they didn't make any moves to offset the losses. They expected the entire team of young players to step up and fill the roles internally, and they failed mightily. This team, two years in a row, was a handful of games from the SC Finals. And now we're on the outside looking in, with very similar rosters. Not a lot of positives on this Wednesday morning. Maybe I'll feel better later - but I doubt it.
jrsarkov Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 we still lost that game? i woke up this morning thinking, errr hoping, it was a nightmare. not to frickin be.

There was no stopping them two from leaving and I for one wouldn't have begged them to stay... Time to move on. I don't think they failed mightly... Maybe by last's standard... IMO, what team would have had this much success this year given the situation. Oh... After last year, there was no way in hell that magm't would have said: "We will give the ole college try next year, but we will be better in the future!" No way in hell... That is maybe what they were thinking though! Maybe I am too Pollyanna... But it has become a solid org. with young talent through the ranks... Why the doom and gloom?
