Buffalo Fan Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 All this talk about LR and DR, could this be a possible senario: 1. DR moves on at the end of next year 2. Ruff moves upstairs 3. Mike Ramsey comes back as coach ??

apuszczalowski Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 Does Ruff even want to be a GM? Everyone suggests that Ruff would become GM, but is this actually something he wants to do? But hey, if it means DR moves one, I give it a yes vote

But hey, if it means DR moves one, I give it a yes vote No idea, but the guy has been coaching for 10 years, under some stressful situations where he had little control. I think he is a good talent evaluator. He is well respected around the league (Ottawa not withstanding, but then again, who cares). If it was something he has been thinking about, it seems like the right opportunity is coming up.
LabattBlue Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 Does Ruff even want to be a GM? Everyone suggests that Ruff would become GM, but is this actually something he wants to do? Even better question...Is Lindy qualified to be an NHL GM?
stenbaro Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 Even better question...Is Lindy qualified to be an NHL GM? NHL GM remains to be seen...Buffalo Sabres Gm? Doesnt seem to be to hard..Dont have to worry too hard about contract negotiations..Just have to learn how to watch video scouting of other NHL teams young players..Sorry couldnt resist

Mike Ramsey comes back as coach ?? The part of the equation is whether Mike Ramsey wants to be an NHL head coach. He apparently moved to Minnesota to be closer to his personal business interests. Not exactly the move a wannabe head coach makes.

Not that I agree that the Sabres should be looking to jettison Regier and promote Ruff, but if so Cunneyworth should (and probably would) get serious consideration for the HC position.

apuszczalowski Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 Take the blinders off, DR is a great GM.No, he is not. I need to take the Blinders off???? I have, and unfortunatly I looked at the standings and noticed that a team that had just been to 2 straight ECF's (and last years Presidents trouphy winner) has been dismantiled and fighting to even make the playoffs. He is definitly a great GM, at the trade deadline, when his team is fighting for a playoff spot, his only move is to dump a FA that, like usual, he can't get re-signed, and bring in another forward, because their depth at defence is so great and they didn't need to upgrade the defence. Oh, thats right, I forgot, anything bad that happens is always Larry Quinns fault, unless it turns out good, then it was all Regier.
gregkash Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 I was beat to it, but should the Sabres be searching for a coach, which i hope they are not, Randy Cunneyworth, who has coached these players for a long time, should be the guy.

I would like the selection of Cunneyworth as well, and I certainly hope that Ruff remains...I am just thinking that his patience must be running out with how things are going above him. I mentioned Rammer because I think he is in a similar mold to Ruff.
Pullup Champ Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 Even better question...Is Lindy qualified to be an NHL GM? About as much as/ if not more than Garth Snow or Glen Healy
X. Benedict Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 Wrong Ramsey......if there is any discussion it should be about Ramsay, Craig.
mphs mike Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 Wrong Ramsey......if there is any discussion it should be about Ramsay, Craig. Not a criticism of #5 at all, but I agree. IF Lindy leaves the bench we should look at Cunneyworth first and #10 second.
gregkash Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 Not a criticism of #5 at all, but I agree. IF Lindy leaves the bench we should look at Cunneyworth first and #10 second. We need to promote Cunneyworth to the NHL next season, whether as coach or an assistant. It NEEDS to happen. Or we're gonna lose him. There is such a thing as coaching prospects and he's one of the best.
stenbaro Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 I want to see Randy also..He deserves the next shot in BUffalo..

stenbaro Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 Can he play physical defense or QB the powerplay? If so, we can use him right now. No one in the Sabres organization can..LOL

There is such a thing as coaching prospects and he's one of the best. You might have to let him go The thing is, is he better then LR? If the answer isn't definitly better, then he may have to move on because you don't throw away a perfectly good coach just because you are afraid to lose a potentially good coach (with no NHL coaching experience) It would be like the Sabres having Hasek just reaching his prime, and letting him go just because they have a goalie like Miller playing well in the minors and you are afraid he might be picked up by someone else, or trying to move Hasek to defence because he has to be a good defencemen since he is a good goalie, and you want both on your team.
