PTS Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 The Women's team lost in a shootout to Sweden and are out of the running for the Gold. What a game thought. I never thought I'd be that into a Women's hockey game. Team USA played selfish, too much individual play. This entire USA Olympic field has been labelled as "America's Best Winter Olympic Team Ever" has been nothing but a huge disappoint. We've lost out on so many medals that should have been won. But I guess that's what the Olympics are about.
Taro T Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Anyone else think the team might have been missing Cammi's leadership?
Guest hockeymaven Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 The shootout was ridiculous. USA "shooters" didn't force the Swedish goalie to make a save. Plus, they gave them an extra shot! USA no shootout goals in six tries. Pathetic. I always love it when a defenseman takes a penalty shot and then tries to deke the goalie with caveman puck handling skills. The Swedish shooters at least put the puck on net a couple of times. They also took better angles on the attack. This loss just saves the US the humiliation of getting stomped by Canada. In truth the team wasn't very good.

For those who didn't see it, she skated the the boards on her breakaway and cut into the net under the faceoff dot. The stupidiest shootout play ever.
Two or less Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Besides the Swedish goalie Marti'n or whatever you spell her name, standing on her head, the main season why USA lost was Potter. Potter was maybe the best player USA had this tournament besides that 18 year old chick Parsons, but Potter in the 3rd period had like 5-6 REAL GOOD CHANCES but couldn't connect. And then took a real dumb penalty later on, which the Swedes didnt score on, but still, USA had to be shorthanded. I know it rough but these are the best of the best and when their PP unit is surrounded on giving players the best oppertunity on the near post, and Potter getting like 5-6 amazing chances, she MUST finishes some of those off. This isn't some exibition game, it's the semi-final game against Sweden in the Olympics. Atleast 2 of those chances were empty nets, all she had to do it control the puck and shoot it accurate but failed big time. I think the coaching was poor too in the 3rd period. Sweden changed their game to play better against the US and USA couldn't do anything, they had like 5-6 shots in the 3rd period, it was embaressing.... finishing was a big weakness for the US even in the games against the Swiss and the Germans.

Believe it or not, you overestimated it by one. Sweden only had 5 shots in the 3rd, but the US had even less with 4.
rickshaw Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 as sweet as it was to watch the US girls lose, deep down inside I wanted them to play Canada in the Final and watch our Canadian girls mop up the Torino ice with them. i guess maybe next time around the US girls won't be posing for photo opps instead of praticing hard for the next game. Maybe next time their players won't complain about Canada thumping teams. You see, Canada takes each game seriously and if they thump a team, they thump them. Does anyone really think Canada couldn't have pumped 30 by the Italians? Canada is clearly the superior team in every facet of the game. Good luck to the US girls in the Bronze medal game. It's gonna be tough as Finland played them hard.

I agree man that was one weak sauce attempt at trying to "fool" the goalie........... B-)
