johnyvegas Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 Hey Mill.. SRV Live at the El Mocambo is one of the best things i've ever seen.. Stevie is out of his mind! It's amazing.
millbank Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 Nothing like seeing great musicians in a common unpretentious bar. Grossmans was another place musicians came and played after hours. We are talking Al Kooper, Mike Blumfield, Jimmy, Steven Stills, many of the Blues greats Buddy Guy and so forth. Mayall , Clapton, the Stones of Course did the Elmo. Great musicians came and played most nights, but the came unannounced, anyone could show up and did. I think of busy streets today, guys in power suits carrying laptops , talking deals, those days young people in common clothes, with Guitars and instruments, carry art portfolio's and clothing design schemes, folks talking art, expression and new things. For such a short period of time is was fabulous . Hey Mill.. SRV Live at the El Mocambo is one of the best things i've ever seen.. Stevie is out of his mind! It's amazing.
ORSabre Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 Okay, I'll weigh in, although I am probably one of the oldest people on this board. Most of you seem like very young men with a lot of testosterone...not that there's anything wrong with that!I'm just an old broad who remembers that first spin of the wheel that gave us Gilbert all those many years ago. :) I love music, all kinds. I have bands for every mood on my Ipod, and from almost every era. A lot of clssical music, Sinatra, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, REM...Bush, Staind, and Zep. And even some Dropkick Murphys. Oh and some Doors and Janis. But my all-time fave I guess would have to be GENESIS - Peter Gabriel only. Loved Phil Collins as a drummer, not as a frontman. So I don't lisen to much past the Lamb Lies Down. I'm with you here. This band I come back to more than any other. I, however, am expanding it to Hackett era rather than simply Gabriel. A Trick of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering are very fine records. If you like Collins as a drummer listen to his work with the fusion band Brand X. Great stuff...
