Ohiofan Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Man, you are old. B-) <_< Thanks Ink...I have kids ranging from the age of 10 to 22. Life is good.
Claude Balls Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 I love music, all kinds. I have bands for every mood on my Ipod, and from almost every era. A lot of clssical music, Sinatra, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, REM...Bush, Staind, and Zep. And even some Dropkick Murphys. Oh and some Doors and Janis. But my all-time fave I guess would have to be GENESIS - Peter Gabriel only. Loved Phil Collins as a drummer, not as a frontman. So I don't lisen to much past the Lamb Lies Down. You got some decent ones. You can't be that old listening to Bush or Staind. I do like Genesis alot, with either Collins or Gabriel.
Ohiofan Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Oh man Rayzer, that ain't the half of it. I listen to everything...except Country. By the way...that's one genre I haven't seen any reference to...Country! Any sh$tkickers out there?

By the way...that's one genre I haven't seen any reference to...Country! Any sh$tkickers out there? My wife listens to country. When we're in the car, we usually take turns between the rock/metal & country stations. I can tolerate some country music, but there are just some stuff that I can't even bare to listen to.

By the way...that's one genre I haven't seen any reference to...Country! Any sh$tkickers out there? Not pop country, that sucks as bad as any new "rock" on the radio these days, but I do like country influenced bands like Uncle Tupelo, The Jayhawks, older Wilco, Son Volt and The Drive By Truckers.

The one thing about country is they have a lot of hot looking women. Shania Twain is my pick for hottest country singer. I think Faith Hill is highly overrated. Don't get me wrong, she is pretty, but she has no body. Sometimes she looks like she's crossed eyed.

He's Waylon Jennings son and has a little "edge" to his country style. I also forgot to add another one of my favorites. Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society
K-9 Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Okay, I'll weigh in, although I am probably one of the oldest people on this board. Most of you seem like very young men with a lot of testosterone...not that there's anything wrong with that!I'm just an old broad who remembers that first spin of the wheel that gave us Gilbert all those many years ago. :) I love music, all kinds. I have bands for every mood on my Ipod, and from almost every era. A lot of clssical music, Sinatra, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, REM...Bush, Staind, and Zep. And even some Dropkick Murphys. So I don't lisen to much past the Lamb Lies Down. A woman after my own heart. If I wasn't already married, why I'd ... Well, gotta run. It's shuffleboard day at the home you know. Don't want the boys to get their Depends all up in a bunch waiting for me. Good post, Ohio. GO SABRES!!!
K-9 Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 By the way. Young, old, or in the middle can we all agree RAP SUCKS?!!! GO SABRES!!!
evil_otto Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 By the way. Young, old, or in the middle can we all agree RAP SUCKS?!!! GO SABRES!!! No, not all of it... and I'm getting off your lawn ;).
X. Benedict Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 By the way. Young, old, or in the middle can we all agree RAP SUCKS?!!! GO SABRES!!! It just amazes me that talking with High School Seniors they have never experienced rap as something new, just as something that always was. I am officially old.
K-9 Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 No, not all of it... and I'm getting off your lawn ;). Ok. I'll give you that. How about 99% agree that 99% of it sucks? BTW, as a proud former destroyer of neighborhood lawns, I say have at mine. Don't like mowing the damn thing anyway. Better the kids around here have a good scrum on it if you ask me. GO SABRES!!!

LabattBlue Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 The only other Tubes tune I can recall is She's a Beauty, mostly due to the video back when MTV actually played music videos. IMO there is only one Tubes song worth remembering...White Punks on Dope! PS I have no idea WTF is going on with the lead singer and his choice of outfits.
LabattBlue Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 I'm stuck in a time warp from the late 60's through the early 80's when it comes to music. From the British Invasion to Foreigner/Fleetwood Mac/Tom Petty. PS The only band I've never really taking a liking to during that time period is the Stones. Some of their songs are okay, but I don't own a single album of theirs.
Corp000085 Posted March 22, 2008 Author Report Posted March 22, 2008 millbank, i started this thread while listening to some dead, i totally forgot about blues and the beginning of rock and roll. I've been teaching myself to play the guitar for the past few years and the history of rock really has interested me since i began to connect with the artists via my interest in guitar. I'll throw some names out there as to other artists i love: Chuck Berry Richie Valens Little Richard Elvis Presley (his sun recordings and his early rca days... like before he crooned and got fat) Robert Johnson Mississippi John Hurt BB King SRV The Rolling Stones The Beatles Waylon Jennings Johnny Cash Hank Williams Hank, Jr. Hell, basically anyone who plays a guitar and has either a bluegrass or blues background kicks major butt in my eyes. I absolutely love the blues. Some of the singing is plain awful, and the lyrics are shallow, but the guitar work is simply amazing. And what's even crazier is that it all comes from an E7-A7-B7-E progression.
millbank Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 Jeff Healy and Stevie Ray vaughan Both gone far to soon , Jeff Healy last month. Stevie Rae Vaughan found Healy playing in Toronto clubs and mentored him. Healy was Blind . These two great. Stevie Rae Vaughan along with Jeff Beck thought of as the more outstanding of many greats. calti Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 Mine's gotta be the Grateful Dead. I don't think a favorite music/band thread has been tossed around over here. Let's hear it! wETg1f-tZ_8 edit: I tried to include an embedded youtube video of tennesee jed, but i guess it didn't work. Not the greatest version of the song, but it's my favorite dead song anyways. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wETg1f-tZ_8 edit #2: I have skill at refreshing a message board, but not html coding! I got the embedded video to work. 1.Everly Brothers 2.Beatles 3.Moody Blues 4.Foo Fighters 5.Nanci Griffith
