Corp000085 Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Mine's gotta be the Grateful Dead. I don't think a favorite music/band thread has been tossed around over here. Let's hear it! wETg1f-tZ_8 edit: I tried to include an embedded youtube video of tennesee jed, but i guess it didn't work. Not the greatest version of the song, but it's my favorite dead song anyways. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wETg1f-tZ_8 edit #2: I have skill at refreshing a message board, but not html coding! I got the embedded video to work.
Screamin'Weasel Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Me First and the Gimme Gimmes For those unfamiliar with them, they are five guys from different bands (Lagwagon, NOFX, e.g.)that get together and record covers of songs and punk 'em up a bit. Alot of fun especially if you are my age and know the originals they are covering. Me First Myspace page (with sample music)
wjag Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Tough choice... I'll go with Moody Blues... or maybe The Tubes... Haven't thought about the Tubes in 20 years, are they still around? You remember this classic
rickshaw Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 This is an easy one. The greatest band to ever rock, AC/DC!! Enjoy! http://youtube.com/watch?v=DlRizkBWOno
johnyvegas Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 This is an easy one.The greatest band to ever rock, AC/DC!! No one rocks like AC/DC. No one comes close. But my fav.. The Clash. And just to throw this out there.. my band (defunct since 2000 but we had ourselves some pretty modest commercial success) http://www.johnyvegas.net some of our more popular tunes available on the downloads page. (i'd start with Just one Trip)Feel free to feeback or flame if you must.
MarkAF43 Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 The Tragically Hip....... and another not quite a band anymore but Matthew Good rocks as well
Screamin'Weasel Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Tough choice... I'll go with Moody Blues... or maybe The Tubes... Haven't thought about the Tubes in 20 years, are they still around? You remember this classic The only other Tubes tune I can recall is She's a Beauty, mostly due to the video back when MTV actually played music videos. As for Rickshaw's AC/DC, growing up punk I hated AC/DC, Led Zepplin, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath et al, but now, I actually like all of them. Had you told me 20 years ago I'd ever enjoy music from any of them, I'd have told you you were crazy.
shrader Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Pearl Jam I'd love to see how much they've paid in fines at their shows over the last two tours becuase each show is longer than the last.
buffalonian Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Lupe Fiasco. you could go on for along time trying to decipher his hidden meanings and metaphors in one of his song one of the best in story telling musically/lyricaly dont judge me or my taste in music from what you hear on the radio. That garbage does not define rap music.
inkman Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Foo Fighters. Saw them a month ago. Just straight forward rock; no more, no less.
BetweenThePipes00 Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Foo Fighters. Saw them a month ago. Just straight forward rock; no more, no less. Didn't see that coming from you ink (not sure why) but I agree ... they are my favorite current band ... favorite band ever is The Police ... the reunion tour has been pretty damn good for old guys but since they are not making a new album I can't call them current.
inkman Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Didn't see that coming from you ink (not sure why) My favorite groups/artists starting with the first (remember people this started in the 80's): Men At Work Hall and Oates Def Leppard Metallica Megadeth NWA Nirvana Pearl Jam Dr Dre Snoop Dog Notorious B.I.G. Static-x Linkin Park Staind Incubus Jay-Z Foo Fighters
darksabre Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 I have so many favorites, it's impossible for me to list them all. Music is a pretty big deal to me and I associate a lot of it with different times, events and people. I guess what I'm listening to a lot of at the moment would be: Godspeed! You Black Emperor. Morphine Against Me The Strokes The Bravery There's so much that I love though, I could go on forever.
buffalonian Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 inkman by the artist you put up, i have a feeling you would really like lupe fiasco
BetweenThePipes00 Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 My favorite groups/artists starting with the first (remember people this started in the 80's): Men At Work Hall and Oates Def Leppard Metallica Megadeth NWA Nirvana Pearl Jam Dr Dre Snoop Dog Notorious B.I.G. Static-x Linkin Park Staind Incubus Jay-Z Foo Fighters Awesome ... Men at Work ... you are older than I thought (although not as old as me ...) I saw them one time in the late 90s in some underground (literally) bar at Virginia Beach ... the two main old guys and 3 young guys touring with them ... amazing show, everyone crammed in there and singing along with them. I don't put them in the same class as the Police or the Foo Fighters but a fun 80s band to listen to, for sure.
Eric in Akron Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Rush - every song can be made into a movie (well almost  ) Metallica w/ Cliff Burton - Master of Puppets & Ride the Lightning were outstanding Led Zepplin Casting Crowns Dropkick Murphys
Claude Balls Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Way too many to list, but you'll get the idea. Old School: Metallica Queensryche Saigon Kick Ozzy Pantera Dokken Ratt Floyd (for those special times) Newer School: Alice in Chains 30 Seconds to Mars Cold Avenged Sevenfold Angels and Airwaves Older Korn Bullet for my Valentine Breaking Benjamin Indie School: Enigma Deep Forest
Bmwolf21 Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 The Tragically Hip....... and another not quite a band anymore but Matthew Good rocks as well I'm shocked, I tell ya - SHOCKED. ;) My favorite groups/artists starting with the first (remember people this started in the 80's): Men At Work Hall and Oates Def Leppard Metallica Megadeth NWA Nirvana Pearl Jam Dr Dre Snoop Dog Notorious B.I.G. Static-x Linkin Park Staind Incubus Jay-Z Foo Fighters Kind of all over the board, huh? I'm the same way. I like a lot of different stuff, but I'm glad to see I'm not only one listing Biggie, Jay-Z and Dre & Snoop.
wonderbread Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 NOFX Pearl Jam Bloodhound Gang Talking Heads Sublime I am all over the place depending on mood and situation I guess. In my CD player right now I have Phish's Billy Breathes album. My 4 year old loves their music. She usually rules the radio.

wjag Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Yet another sign that I'm getting old. I don't recognize a bunch of those artists. My tastes are squarely in the late 70's early 80's. My IPOD is a mix of old rock and classical. I usually just play songs in random order so I could be listening to Dvorak, Queen, Pink Floyd, Tchaikovsky, Led Zepplin, Bach, Irish Celtic music.. Am I the only classicial celtic rocker out here??? :
