Bigthuder1636 Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 Not that they are real good choices but of the teams that have a realistic shot at finishing first in the East, (Pittsburgh, Montreal, Ottawa, and NJ) who do you think the Sabres match up best with? If you look at the season series between these clubs the one team we wouldnt want is the Penguins. After that the numbers dont say much. We have basically split Montreal and Ottawa, but Ottawa was a different team when we lost most of those games and Montreal was much different when we were beating them. NJ is interesting because we have played them so tight, but then you have Broduer who can singlehandely win series for the Devils. Personally, I dont think Ottawa has a chance of finishing first and so given the rest of the teams I would prefer we play NJ. Even though Brodeur is playing out of his mind, Montreal is just so potent offensively and having played the Sabres 8 times this season I just dont think it is a good matchup. Thats my opinion what do you guys think?
wjag Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 I voted for everyone.. I just want to be in.. We no longer have the luxury of who as we need to survive if..
deluca67 Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 I voted for everyone.. I just want to be in.. We no longer have the luxury of who as we need to survive if.. As did I. I think a better question is "who do the top teams want to play?" With all the playoff experience the Sabres have gained over the past two season I wouldn't be in a big hurry to play them if I were a young team like the Pens or Habs.

They have usually been in playoff mode for 5 weeks.
carpandean Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 Too early to ask. Don't test the hockey gods.
ofiba Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 Right now, I don't see us beating any of those teams in a 7 game series. If I had to pick, it would be Ottawa.
R_Dudley Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 I didn't like voting (tempting the hockey gods) but I picked Pgh becuase I really think it would be fun/exciting series to watch and I would get to watch it here in Da Burg.

X. Benedict Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 I just don't get this tripe.. Hockey, if one was to presume it was a moral universe, has a few sins to be wary of. One is the sin of presumption, which should generally be avoided. The second sin is getting a little to chummy with the enemy - like making out with a chick in a Philly Jersey - even if she's hot - you've broken the moral code. The third sin is spilling drinks. Most of it can be reduced to this.
wonderbread Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 I didn't like voting (tempting the hockey gods) but I picked Pgh becuase I really think it would be fun/exciting series to watch and I would get to watch it here in Da Burg. I voted for Jersey, we seemed to do pretty well with them all year. I didn't vote for Pittsburgh I would hate up to have to play them in Round 1. They would smear us all over the ice. They are an amazing deep squad with significant talent. Malkin, Hossa, Crosby, Gonchar...etc etc etc no thanks.
carpandean Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 I just don't get this tripe.. As X. Benedict said, it's one of those unwritten sports sins. If there are hockey gods, to which the superstitious among us attribute such things as bad and good bounces, then they might see your thread as presumptuous and keep us out just to spite you. Someone started a thread last year about what you will do once the Sabres have won the cup (or something like that) and we all know what happened!
repster Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 Remember Brewster's Million's? I'm voting for none of the above. I'd love to say ya, that one, but I'm a little like Kalinin on this question. Just don't have the confidence.
Eleven Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 I just don't get this tripe.. You know? They either make it or they don't. And it's "whom."
inkman Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 Too early to ask. Don't test the hockey gods. I just don't get this tripe.. As X. Benedict said, it's one of those unwritten sports sins. I didn't even vote as I believe it's in violation of the Hockey Gods. This thread should disappear like the hundreds of others did a few days ago.
Hank Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 montreal. I'm not sold on thierr goaltending come playoff time. in a perfect world (Well, my perfect world anyway) Boston is the odd team out. We get the Rangers in the 2nd round, Flyers in the Conf finals (notice a pattern?) and beat the Sharks for the cup.
Sherman Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 What I would love to see is Ottowa go into a slump and not make it. They are only 7-9 points ahead of Washington and us and the Sens are not playing well. It's amazing how losing Chris Neill has affected this team. He has the same effect as Sean Avery in NY.
Claude Balls Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 Didn't vote. Karma is a bad thing. I don't care who the Sabres play. Just playing in the second season makes me happy.
